hahahah. buddha day. king.... yeah lah. the king thing is pretty funny. did you buy the royal shirt? on friday i think everyone wheres the yellow "king" shirt. hahah. and they all stop when the kings anthem is played. also in the cinema they will play the kings anthem at the start and play a short video clip of the king before the movie and you gotta stand up until the song is over doh.gif hahahah. INSIDE THE MOVIE THEATER! crazy.
*
Its Monday actually, when people wear the yellow shirt. The King is prolly one of the more respectable royalty you'll find in the world. Very charitable and open minded. If you understood what they do, you wouldn't really think its crazy at all. No offense, but our royalty really should be a bit more like the Thai royalty.

but i read a few post say they will charge 9000 baht for a boat or so for tourist to con them..i not good at bargain.
*
Its simple, if its too expensive and they won't go any cheaper, then go find another boat keeper, till you find one you happy to pay for. I usually find that if they are friendly and helpful, its extra marks to paying them more, though I'd give the extra after the ride.

9000 baht is a bit too much and sounds exaggerated. Its just a boat ride, not a cruise.

Malls close around the same time as KL malls do. Around 10pmish. Hmmm, I wouldn't quite say Paragon is expensive like KLCC. Sure there are a lot of high end stuff that is beyond most people's affordability but there are also shops for the avg joe to go to too.

Cabs in BKK do start at 35 baht. But the incremental rates aren't as stupid as KL's. Over a longer distance its a lot more worth it. Heck, the service is way better even, that I wouldn't mind a 35baht initial fee.

actually price for hotel no changes, only fare for air ticket always changing

any recommended telco for prepaid, which is cheap to make outgoing calls local & international
*
The prepaids are all pretty much similar. I used 12call(AIS) when I was there. For calls I really would suggest using IDD call cards. They are just as easy to get as prepaids. You can even register the IDD card to your mobile number, just like iTalk. So you only need to register once, call the number and you'll just have to hit the number you want to dial.

Using pre-paid to make overseas calls.. well, you would be reloading quite a bit then, so you might as well use an IDD card to save the troubles. But if you insist.. then well, I think whatever provider you get from wouldn't matter if you can afford to fork that much.

Is there also a prepaid mobile phone for calling within Siam? Lets say call friend and stuff. What company would you rekomen
*
Errr... yeah, the pre-paids are just like KL's. Digi, maxis etc. You can make calls from them. I'm just saying its best to use IDD cards for overseas call.

For pre-paid, been using 12Call. Happy isn't bad either and rather big/popular.

Are electronic goods cheaper in Bangkok? I thought of buying a Wii..
*
Some stuff are cheaper, some are a lot more expensive. You'd have to check yourself really. From what I see, cams and HDTVs are somewhat cheaper or more the less the same. Computer stuff are generally more expensive, though there are a few lines and brands that are really in huge supply there and is somewhat cheaper.

Wii... not really sure, my sister did get one there sometime early last year, but she lived there at that time. Personally and strongly, I'd suggest getting the Wii locally tongue.gif

On the PS3 - yeah there are a lot of shops selling it for like 2000-3000++++. Really crazy stuff, but they are all in malls that are considered big and have a range of high end goods and I assume those PS3s are imported old stocks when the PS3 was fairly new and ridiculously expensive then. I think in discovery center or siam square theres a game shop there that sold the ps3 for about RM1600-1700, which is pretty standard to KL's.

Heading there again this thursday.

Again, there is NOTHING WRONG with the political unrest effecting your visit there! Its just media hype thats just scaring you. Most of the time if theres a riot or 'debate' it will be isolated to key areas which you can point out from FAR away.

My parents live there and there is NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.

Both I'd say, if you can find a good exchanger here that will give you good rates, then change as much as you can.

Weather is HOT. Pollution level looks fairly low actually, especially from looking out the window, would be a bit more obvious during the day, but its not something I would complain during my walkabouts. Most of the pollution you'll see is mostly just from the highways or road dust, so somewhat like KL. Protests look to be fairly quiet too and parents whos been staying here hasn't mentioned bout it.

And whats this bout protests being in the culture? Its NOT a norm. Seriously, people.. open the eyes a bit. And for the last time... these protests will NOT harm your travel experience! Bar counting the take over of the airport tongue.gif

dont worry, taxi charges will be around RM40-80 (from airport to city)

if want cheaper alternatives, can take airport express bus...less than RM20. more info go here : http://www.bangkokairportonline.com/node/55

Wow, what taxi do you get on? I never pay more then 300Baht(less then 350 with toll) on all the taxi trips from the airport.

And yes, the airport bus is awesome, don't need to pay toll either. And its 150baht.

Just try both beers tongue.gif I prefer singha though.

Songkran is awesome. The white powder they stuff on you isn't so awesome though hahaha. Definitely feels mucky in the end D: But you can never go wrong with pure water fights laugh.gif

And yeah, like panda-man said, just stuff your water-hazard items into a zipbag and all is well.

Well, I've had female friends who went there alone before... So I'd say, its as safe as how cautious and careful you be. Avoid cabs as much as possible...

Crime rate is lower there then here anyway tongue.gif

And its FREAKING HOT - totally sun burnt. Rain is rather on and off. But doesn't hurt to be prepared tongue.gif Still mostly hot over all.
