Just now saw the new LG Artcool series on display at Harvey Norman. 2.5hp for 4.3k if I rmb correctly... but what blows me away is the Star rating sticker. Its 5 stars as expected.... but the measured energy consumption is just 700+ kwh per year blink.gif i'm not sure if they have the correct model on display but that's very impressive for 2.5hp considering my 1hp Mitsu label is showing 822 kwh per year

Too bad forgot to take pic and i didnt check the model number on the sticker

Both me and wifey works 8~10 hours a day. Most likely only enjoy 8+ hours time either Living room/bedroom. Entire unit is about 1200sqft, now wondering if just 2 HP will be enough for Living room and 1.5 for Master Bedroom. Now just wanna know rough estimate.

Yes, i saw my neighborhood~ there are few on same floors using Midea as well (Can tell from the brand logo at their Compressor unit) Looking at Multi Split option. noticed that my Living room and two other bedroom's piping is at the same Balcony, Maybe just Multi-Split for that three units... Since i don't think all three will switch on at same time. Or at least living room and bedroom won't switch on at same time).

Noticed that there are threads have discussion about inverter vs non-inverter over past few years. I guessed even after a decade people still debating on this topic. Surprised that some model with fancy features can even reach Rm3k for just 1HP
*
imo.... no need to spend so much for an inverter. just get a good enough inverter (around 1k - 1.5k for 1hp, 2k - 2.5k for 2hp, make sure its 5 stars rating) then spend more on getting a qualified and good aircond technician to install your aircond

if the installation process is not proper / fked up, you buy 3k+ aircond from reputable brand also no use

and this is just me, but brand does matter a bit when it comes to inverter aircond. The durability of the electronic components eg: circuit board, more or less will be related to the brand. And also after sales service and spare parts

if i am buying i think i will buy ok brand like midea, their inverter is not that ex... but quite good.. fast cooling... durability wise will need to monitor..
*
Almost all brands also ok nowadays.... just have to make sure the installation is proper and regular maintanence. But if you want good spare parts availability i think still Daikin or Panasonic. Midea should be fine i think since more and more people start using

The only brand I've heard aircond tech and other people asking everyone to avoid is Samsung lol

samseng stuff always cmi, not surprise...  try to buy their tv u will also know...
*
Dont say like that... I'm using samseng phone and TV tongue.gif so far satisfied

Most of these big electronic brands are only good at certain appliances and you really need luck to not get a lemon

When I first started planning appliances to get for my new house I was intending for all Jap brands. But end up with -

TV - Samsung
Fridge - Hisense
Washing machine - LG
Aircond - Daikin (free), Mitsubishi

Touch wood so far all is good

What's the real purpose of vacuuming?

I have asked several installers on Facebook, all of them have different opinion.

Yes, around 7-8 hours per day i think, not sure about temp.
Did not know 2 hp eats up that much power

Guess most of the bills i have been comparing are using 1.0 hp, thats y it looks so cheap compared to what she is paying.

She initially thought the sensor got problem, becoz she felt the aircon did not off automatically once the temperature in the room has reached the desired level.

I wonder is it possible to swap the aircon units without swapping the compressor? Or the whole set must be changed?
There is another 1.0 aircon in the same unit but not being used in another room.
*
If the aircond is old non inverter and using R410a or even R22 gas.... then high power consumption is gonna be unavoidable, further more it is 2HP

If the landlord not allow or willing to change it (i assume it is the likely scenario since R32 will require new piping as well) then unfortunately she need to change some usage habits to bring down the electricity bill. Try limit the aircond usage to 2 - 3 hrs, once the room is cool enough can switch over to fan

hi, i have recently booked a subsale unit.

would like to ask how do i know what is the HP of aircond installed in the living room? if the aircond is 2HP, can i replace with 2.5HP without redo the piping?
*
Yes 2 and 2.5hp share same piping. Can check from the label on the indoor unit

But make sure its the same refrigerant type. If old unit usually is R410a or R22. Latest aircond all using R32. You need to change the piping also

i have multiple old R22 ac and my ac installer told me that they just need to change the piping adapter for both ends.
the piping were all concealed in the wall.

weird when he said he will not use any special chemical or nitrogen to flush out
*
probably a short cut.... but ideally you should use new piping when switching over to new refrigerant type

maybe someone who knows better like stormer.lyn can advise

Similar setup but my unit longer and wider (landed)

Since your usage only 2-3 hours, forget about inverter. Don’t need it. Because when you turn it on inverter will be at full power to cool the space down. Same as a normal aircon. Plus rarely use. No need.

I have 2.5hp in living, 2hp in dining and 1.5hp in dry kitchen. Rarely turn on the living one. Dining one more than enough. Unless I have party and more ppl.

I recommend Hisense most basic cheapest model. I’ve got a total of 4 of them. For your usage don’t need spend so much. For bedroom on long periods >6 hours I would recommend inverters to better regulate temperature for comfort.
No. Not worth it. That’s like buying a new Tesla to replace your current Myvi which is paid up. New Tesla cost 200k… 200k can buy a lot of petrol for the Myvi lol.

Learn to use dry mode. Setup the aircon to off middle of the night when ambient temperature drop.

Buy a digital thermometer that is able to log and connect to your phone to see the temperature and humidity.

Most importantly, get a fan to circulate air in the room it’ll feel cooler. Ceiling fan is best.

these days I am using dry mode because our humidity gets as high as 80%.
*
Dry mode is really an underrated feature that not many are aware about, or mostly just dont know what its for

Its very useful for non inverter aircond actually. For me I turn on my 1.5hp non inverter for living room, set at 24/25c for around 1 hour, then once the room is cool enough i switch to dry mode and set it to 26/27c. Helps maintain the coolness and lower power consumption a lot even if its non inverter

But personally I don't recommend using it for bedroom when you are sleeping overnight lah.... you will wake up feeling very dry. For bedroom just get a good inverter and set cool mode 24 - 26c all the way

Invest in a thermometer that logs and connect to your phone. You’d be surprised that with an inverter it doesn’t get too dry.

I noticed humidity doesn’t go below 60% so it’s acceptable.
*
I do have a thermometer + hygrometer at my living room. For my bedroom I have an air purifier that display temperature and humidity info as well (Sharp KC-F30L). Usually on dry mode I noticed the humidity will go as low around 40% after 1 - 2 hours, but that's what make the whole area feel cool eventhough I set the temprature to 27c

This was after i switched off the aircond and the humidity slowly increased back
user posted image

Weirdly enough for my bedroom I also noticed the humidity around 35 - 40% after turning on my inverter aircond for 1 hour @ 24c

user posted image

But dry mode at the living room for few hours usually I do feel my eyes and lips getting dry

Nice setup you have there! Mine is a super low tech Xiaomi meter that runs on CR2025 battery. Care to share what's the top and bottom thingy?
My Panasonic has that dongle, to allow control over their own Comfort Control apps... but there's no automation function in there, and TBH that app UI/UX is crap. Sigh. But I like your suggestion and I would like to implement.

Can share what you use? Alternatively.. I could keep my bedroom A/C on 24/7 on dry mode.. since it is an inverter.. just need to find the sweet spot in terms of settings.
*
Its a Tuya based thermometer + hygrometer, running on 2x AAA battery. Not that expensive actually

https://s.lazada.com.my/s.Q1JCk

The bottom screen is a Tuya zigbee hub to connect and control all my Tuya smart home device

Mitsubishi aircond actually have a mode to switch between Cool and Dry automatically depending on the detected temperature call iFeel mode. Above 25c it will set Cool mode, below 25c it will switch to Dry mode. I've yet to try it though

Is it normal to have the airconditioner compressors NOT BOLTED to the metal brackets?

Would there be any issues screwing into the metal brackets?

Kinda scared it could easily topple and kill someone.

You didnt mention this I oso didnt know its supposed to be bolted. Both my aircond old and new also not bolted, done by different installers

Any recommended aircon installer in Klang Valley?

I can pm you mine. But his price will be slightly more exp because his installation typically involves vacuuming, but its worth it

Also he might try to promote you Mitsubishi Electric aircond because he is under official retailer for the brand i think. Just ignore if you're not interested

Any problem with Panasonic or Daikin?

4 month ago, I change out the Mitsubishi 1.5hp inverter for Panasonic 2.0hp inverter. The bill is drop to ~RM75 from ~RM120.

Another non inverter Daikin 2.0hp is given fan motor noise for the outdoor unit. It hardly use for 4yrs.
*
Your bill probably drop because of the higher HP. Higher HP = faster cooling = inverter kicks in faster

Ya. I understand this.

But it also not really true.

Previous before Mitsubishi inverter is a Panasonic 1.5hp inverter.  The bill did drop to ~80 for Panasonic 1.5hp. When the bill increase to over 100 after 10yrs usage, I know it s time to change.

The reason I change to Mitsubishi is for easy clean. But the cooling and efficiency is disappointing. I only use it for 3yrs.
*
Well inverter also got different quality and grades even amongst the same brand. That's why always good to check the energy rating sticker for the annual kwh consumption. Eventhough it says 5 stars the consumption will still be different between models

Do u guys really spend money to service ur aircon?

Or u guys just simply clean the filters by yourselves on regular basis but only pay money to get it service when it has prob such as water leaking etc.
*
Clean filter monthly

Spend some money for annual deep cleaning

Actually you can DIY deep clean also but you need to know how to dissemble and reassemble the aircond. Also need some equipments
