Hi All,

I'm considering to buy Marshall Colonel GPS system. <Link>

1. Any comment on this product?Good/Bad?
2. I see that they runs on Papago OEM software. Does this mean that i can use map from malfreemap ?

Appreciate your comments.

Thanks! smile.gif

Hi,
I saw Marshall GPS today and got so confused with Garmin that I thought to look for reviews first, but unfortunately hardly anyone is using it.
They use Papago software, so my question is similiar to cadmus question, is it worth buying if the maps are same as Papago... if anyone is using it then that would be the best advice. By the way, are Papago maps better than Garmin or vice versa?

there is little difference between papago maps and garmin maps. while www.malfreemaps.com may be the official supplier of papago maps for malaysia, they are also the 3rd party unofficial map makers for garmin.

So data coming from malfreemaps are the same for both papago and garmin.

The major difference between most software nagivation creators are the routing engines. How it routes you and how it reads data is defnitely different.
getting a papago machine or a garmin machine depends solely on individual. there are many threads that lists the differences, their advantages and disadvantages. end of the day its all about preferences.

some likes clear cut voice navigation while some prefer visual content.

the best gps is papago / wayway. do provide free map update everymonths. u do no require internet or phone line to perform , however it will have built in anntena to recevie the signal from satellite itself it will detect where you are than u just set ur destination u want to go, however papgo and wayway docontaint most of the data about the palce where have speed camera. alert.,,! it also wil let u knw estimate time to arrive a place and left how many km.
there have many types of china GPS, prereload with pirate one, pls do aware on it.. If you looks for one Original genuine papago Gps/Wayway GPs. do contact us.

Hello and nice to see such vibrant website I must say!

Just to update you on some things I have read here. One of my friends showed me his Garmin GPS and when he pulled out his Nuvi 1350 from the pouch fell a receipt. It was the receipt for the money he paid to update his maps from one of the shops in Low Yat (I will not mention which one). My friend did his update in February , but his map was a much earlier map of MY and SG of 2010. I have the certitude that the shop did not update for him and just simply charged him. doh.gif

Do as I would do if I had to make the update from another shop:

1. Check out the version you have.
2. Check out the latest version of the map from Garmin.com.my
3. Ask the shop to show you which version you have and after update ask the shop to show you that there is an update.
4. Lastly. It is not difficult to make the update yourself, try it; it is free. The most you have to invest in is a mini-usb or micro-usb cable.

Also in terms of the shops; not that I have a preference to this one; it is just that it is more convinient for me to go there and park; The GeoBazaar is no longer in Wisma Central for years now. Their new address:

The GeoBazaar : (Lot 2.48) - Kompleks antarabangsa, Jalan Sulatan Ismail (between Crown Plaza hotel and Kenanga).
Phone: 03-21455575

If you buy a Garmin GPS and intend to us it in Malaysia; make sure that you are getting a new one and it is not a refurbished unit. Also make sure that you get a MY/SG version for easy update of the local maps.

Updates of the maps and firmware are free (not sure for how long) and you can do it yourself if you want to.

Good luck. biggrin.gif

Ramli

p.s.: Please note that for MY and SG there are two website where you can get maps for free:

www.malsingmaps.com
www.malfreemaps.com

Cheers

There is another answer for that. I think some of these shop are 'also don't know' type. Last year someone gave him the map and he doesn't know how to get newer map themselves or didn't even know newer ones exist. So as far as they are concern, what they have is the latest according to them.

Hey there GPS users. I'm planning to get a GPS cuz i'm always lost in KL. I was wondering,....

a) is it worth the money? is the connection always available in Malaysia here?
b) my friend told me that GPS shows the road and direction, but dangerous to use cuz some roads are 1 way street, GPS doesnt tell. true or false? do advise, and the GPS programme that u use
c) wats the difference between 16 channel and 32 channel??

any other pointers for someone who never use GPS before?

looking to buy bluetooth GPS for Ipaq 4150, hence all these questions.

the questions above i already posted in another section, under networks and broadband, but i post again here cuz i got additional questions, and i felt the above questions might be linked

i wanna ask, like i said earlier, i using Ipaq 4150, and planning to use GPS. Is it good enough?? the specs of my 4150? so far i love my 4150, small, compact, and fast enough. but for GPS (using bluetooth some more) i wanna ask ok or not?

This is very useful information,I appreciate your hard working.
