Hello and nice to see such vibrant website I must say!
Just to update you on some things I have read here. One of my friends showed me his Garmin GPS and when he pulled out his Nuvi 1350 from the pouch fell a receipt. It was the receipt for the money he paid to update his maps from one of the shops in Low Yat (I will not mention which one). My friend did his update in February , but his map was a much earlier map of MY and SG of 2010. I have the certitude that the shop did not update for him and just simply charged him.
Do as I would do if I had to make the update from another shop:
1. Check out the version you have.
2. Check out the latest version of the map from Garmin.com.my
3. Ask the shop to show you which version you have and after update ask the shop to show you that there is an update.
4. Lastly. It is not difficult to make the update yourself, try it; it is free. The most you have to invest in is a mini-usb or micro-usb cable.
Also in terms of the shops; not that I have a preference to this one; it is just that it is more convinient for me to go there and park; The GeoBazaar is no longer in Wisma Central for years now. Their new address:
The GeoBazaar : (Lot 2.48) - Kompleks antarabangsa, Jalan Sulatan Ismail (between Crown Plaza hotel and Kenanga).
Phone: 03-21455575
If you buy a Garmin GPS and intend to us it in Malaysia; make sure that you are getting a new one and it is not a refurbished unit. Also make sure that you get a MY/SG version for easy update of the local maps.
Updates of the maps and firmware are free (not sure for how long) and you can do it yourself if you want to.
Good luck.
Ramli
p.s.: Please note that for MY and SG there are two website where you can get maps for free:
www.malsingmaps.com
www.malfreemaps.com
Cheers
