It's a legit but dumb way to deliver a nuclear bomb. Anything worth bombing with a nuke is obviously worth defending to the other side.

New Zealand military chooses U.S. firm for new rifle

user posted image
WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- An American gun manufacturer has been named the preferred tenderer to supply the New Zealand Defense Force with a new combat rifle.

The selection of Illinois-based Lewis Machine & Tool as the preferred tenderer was announced by the New Zealand Ministry of Defense last week following a trials program phase of the contract evaluation process.

The New Zealand Defense Force currently uses Steyr AUG rifles, a 5.56×45mm assault rifle designed in the 1960s. The replacement of about 8,800 rifles is part of a larger firearms replacement program.

In competition against Lewis Machine & Tool were: Beretta New Zealand Limited, Ceska zbrojovka a.s., Colt Canada Corporation, FN Herstal, Steyr Mannlicher GmbH, XTEK Limited and Heckler & Kock GmbH.

Additional details were not disclosed by the Ministry of Defense.

hurr just because mag on front= backward

even pla replace their advanced qbz97 with backward qbz 03, and the french is looking for backward design for FAMAS
*
bullpup design is determined by mag location? doh.gif

who say pla replace (qbz97 is export version) qbz95 with qbz03... 03 is not even a standard rifle with limited adoption

waaa... you work for french mindef ar?

bullpup rifle has their magazine placed at the buttstock, and yes the french is looking for Famas replacements
*
mag at the back is a result of the design and not the purpose of the design...

replace gun not switching from bull to conventional

why sad? every weapons platform have its pros and cons, and ar is cheaper
lmt selection is kinda a no-brainer as their 7.62mm marksmen rifle is from lmt too
*
sad as in being 1 step backwards... ar cheaper? you sure?

hmm.. so their standard rifle would be a mbr instead of assault?

backward as in what?  rclxub.gif

it is better for them to choose existing off-the-shelf product and with bulk order they most likely can get some discount while at it, cuz if following their big brother aussie they need to also adopt the newer ef88/f90 that is planned to replace the f88 in australian service starting next year

as if bullpup can be cheaper than ar?

the 7.62 is their dmr weapon, their service rifle is still 5.56
*
design benefit..

well, there're lots of modern off the shelf bull pups too... yea, should follow their bro

in general no, but with similar specs, it is debatable..

Bullpup weapons are not really a 'next step' kind of deal, more of a design variant of the normal assault rifle. Nothing really revolutionary about that, just the same rifle parts only arranged differently. A good gunsmith can convert any assault rifle into a bullpup version of itself.

I'm still waiting for the 'next step' of weapons technology like reliable caseless ammunition or magnetic propulsion.
*
dont u think the rifle being arranged differently brings a lot of advantage? hmm.gif

i thought smart ammo
