Bros i am comparing oppo R7 Plus ( Rm1988) vs Samsung A8 ( Rm 1888).
Oppo R7 Plus and Samsung A8 both have fingerprint scanner except A8 can touch to wake.
Oppo has 3gb ram vs samsung 2gb ram
Oppo uses 615 processor vs Exynos 5430 in A8 ( difference in processor speed 1.5 Ghz vs 1.8 ghz and better graphics in A8)

any experience with oppo...dont seem to see any thread in lowyat for oppo...is it good or bad? How about samsung a8?

Looking to get a phone for my father.

I was initially budget myself to less than RM1k, want full HD 5.5" screen, GPS and 4G enable, at least 16GB ROM (if so with SD card expansion), better 32GB ROM (with or without SD card expansion also acceptable), prefer Lollipop out of the box (for future proofing purpose, but not hard requirement), if dual sim preferably the 2nd sim slot not used as SD card slot, prefer model is released in 2015.

I already bought Asus Zenfone 2 4GB RAM 64GB ROM variant for my mother when it released so I wish to not include ASUS Zenfone 2 again.

With this constraint I soon shortlisted Lenovo K3 Note, Meizu M2 Note.

But soon I discovered that Lenovo K3 Note no original set in Malaysia, all AP, kind of hinder me.
Meizu M2 Note does not have FM Radio, I do not know why but seem like a simple function however it just does not have.

So I decided to raise my budget to less than RM1.5k.

The following become my current requirements:

1. Brand:
Exclude ASUS. Prefer reliable brand with reputable after sales service because I am not always available to help my folk to find technician to repair, so if they can send to service center the best.
I want original Malaysia set one. AP set not preferable.

2. Budget: Below RM1.5k

3. Spec:
Full HD 5.5" screen size, 4G and GPS enable,
at least 16GB ROM (if so with SD card expansion), better 32GB ROM (with or without SD card expansion also acceptable)

Prefer recently release model (like less than 1.25yrs)
And now I accept if it is not Lollipop out of the box, but can upgradeable to Lollipop.

4. What you need in the phone
The phone is for old man, so no need hard core computation ability. But I want good camera and reliable (not easily damage till need to send to service).

With these requirements I short listed
Huawei Honor 6 Plus RM1400
OnePlus 2 (64GB) RM1500 (Not yet available in Malaysia)
Samsung Galaxy A7 RM1500
HTC Desire 826 RM1300

Each has its own drawback:
Huawei Honor 6 Plus
- KitKat out of the box, I am not sure is it upgradeable to Lollipop
- SD Card use SIM2 slot, luckily is 32GB ROM so not a deal breaker.

OnePlus 2 (64GB)
- I am not even sure if I can manage to buy one if it is released by MAXIS, given its weird invite system which I am not familiar with. I just want phone, do not want any data plan attached.
- No FM Radio, I wonder does any phone user without FM radio function get annoyed by this? I hope to get a phone with all round features.

Samsung Galaxy A7
- Kitkat out of the box but upgradeable to Lollipop, so not a deal breaker.
- Single SIM, is a weakness compare to the rest in the list but acceptable.

HTC Desire 826
- Cheapest among all, while the rest in list all have 5MP front camera, this one has 4MP.
- Single SIM, is a weakness compare to the rest in the list but acceptable.

And then yesterday I bumped into a phone called Elephone P7000 and P8000, I was like in shock such a high spec with such a low price tag but not sure about its reliability.

So expert out there, can you please provide your opinion to me? If you think I miss out some good choice please enlighten me.

Oppo Find 7A,
Samsung Galaxy S5
Huawei Honor 6
Xiaomi Mi4
Xiaomi Mi Note
Oneplus One (Oneplus 2 not yet launch and won't be getting here any time soon)
LG G3 (AP Suite your budget, but ori is over your budget)
ZTE Nubia Z7 Max (AP only?)

For Elephone P7000 and P8000, it is almost same spec as Meizu M1 Note and Lenovo K3 Note, so not really recommended, because of higher pricing.

Hi thanks for your feedback.

Oppo Find 7A
A bit old model, released Mar 2014, Jelly Bean out of the box, I think still upgradeable to KitKat.

Samsung Galaxy S5
Prefer 5.5" screen, old man need bigger display.

Huawei Honor 6
Prefer 5.5" screen, old man need bigger display.

Xiaomi Mi4
No 4G, sigh. I put high hope on this initially too.

Xiaomi Mi Note 5.7"
RM1550 (only RM50 extra from my budget), ROM large enough to ignore the need of SD card, no FM radio though. I actually consider this before. But I drop it in an attempt to try to find a 5.5" first before resort to bigger screen. I put this as my backup list first.

Oneplus One (Oneplus 2 not yet launch and won't be getting here any time soon)
Maxis tweeter teases oneplus2 released here sooner than we think though not say how soon. I can only hope tongue.gif
Oneplus One I am not keen, due to single SIM, average camera performance, slightly old model in my opinion (released in June 2014, but only on sale in Malaysia by Maxis at Apr 2015)

LG G3 (AP Suite your budget, but ori is over your budget)
Prefer original. Less hassle for me.

ZTE Nubia Z7 Max (AP only?)
I guess this one is AP only? Did not even heard of any service center in Malaysia.

Thus out of your suggestion, filter left Xiaomi Mi Note (which I will put as backup list).

If you have to choose among the 4 I listed in my previous thread, what will be your choice and why?

You have all the point.
With only 4 listed, only Oneplus 2 will be the best choice, because it using the latest SOC, and it is twice more powerful than what you have listed.

Any specific brand or any specific requirement for spec?

Top recommend, only ASUS brand (ASUS is a Taiwan brand, their pricing now approaching China brand)
1. ASUS Padfone S, 5" 1080p, 16GB, 2GB RAM
2. ASUS Zenfone 2, ZE550ML, 5.5" 720p, 16GB, 2GB RAM.

Well, for Samseng, Sony, HTC, 2GB RAM is not available for this price.

1. Samsung Galaxy J5, 5" 720p AMOLED, 8GB, 1.5GB RAM,
2. Sony Xperia C3, 5.5" 720p, 8GB, 1GB RAM
3. Sony Xperia T3, 5.3" 720p, 8GB, 1GB RAM
4. HTC Desire 620G, 5" 720p, 8GB, 1GB RAM

Any Zenfone 2 or 6 competitors? I love these two for big battery capacity, performance, dual sim and updates. Somehow they are kinda too large for me nowadays. I bring along my phone for cycling. sweat.gif

And maybe a good GPS chipset and signal reception? At my place, Maxis is sangat tidak bagut.

I would pick r7 plus simply because
r7 plus camera>A8 (8mp front cam and have laser autofocus, oppo is famed for their camera)
r7 battery capacity>A8
Vooc fast charge>A8 ( imagine 4000mah can charge up to 75% in only 30mins , works with charging thru car charger and powerbank that support vooc as well)
3gb ram> 2gb ram (more ram is always better)
warranty oppo r7> A8 ( r7 plus comes with special warranty which covers water damage and screen cracks)

if wan bring for cycling, better opt for small phones and not phablets. Zen2/6 is under phablet already.
Im also into cycling as well. I have compact phone and phablet too. Always brought my Sony Z3compact with me when im cycling. First of all it is very handy and small. Second,it is waterproof(useful when you are cycling and suddenly it rains).
So,i recommends you to get Sony Xperia Z1 compact. Battery enduramce is one of the best. Easily can last you two days. Updates already got ota 5.1 lollipop. Only no Dual sim. icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks bro. Yeah, the problem is no dual sim. I'm tired of bring two different phone when going out. One good thing about Sony is their phone is well taken care, unlike Samsung based on my experience.

Or maybe I should get a dual sim phone with a good battery life and support? And same price tag? Phablet is nice, but recently I'm very active in sports so 5" kinda troublesome.
