yea.
thanks nameless...
i was juz wondering whether can I survive in Singapore (moderately spending of 1500)?
No need to care abt my earning first. I juz need to know is 1500 expenses enough for a moderate guy that cant eat bread everyday and wont eat steak everynite too...

I do not wan a life where i use 1500 expenses a month but have no life. get wat i means? smile.gif
i wan to have a life and at the same time save... so i am estimating 1500 for expenses per month and i'm askin whether that is enuf to get a life in singapore and not everyday eat, work  and go home sleep...
*
can la if u earn 5k a month, no problem. Last year, I say anything below 3.5k is not worth going there for. Last year when i was there, my room rental was SGD450. Now the same location oredi raise up to SGD1k.....with SGD500, u gotto stay sumwer far away from work, unless your workplace is not in the city. So this year due to rental, anything above SGD4k will be good, or if u r from johor, y not.

in SG, SGD50 can last u a week of food (for me as a gal, maybe guy SGD100 la...and i am a big eater, no starving only on bread) everything dem cheap except for rental. Their food, big portion, FRESH and YUmmy......dollar to dollar everythign is cut in half, sometimes moer than half..wat else can u ask for.

Btw, r u goin thru an agency?

My rental is 650, internet, cable TV, util prob another 120 = 770 gone. Other than that, food, shopping and etc is kinda cheap. But like what most ppl said, SG can be a boring place or exciting place. Excitement comes with a price I guess. Its your call at the end of the day what kind of life you want. smile.gif

Good luck. Btw, some company offers to pay for medical checkup & EP, some don't. My housemate needs to pay on his own for these 2....smile.gif
*
oh issit? how come like this ahh.....i tot all companies pay. I think its unfair for us to be paying anything la be4 we even start to earn their money... shakehead.gif

Hi, all.

I've received several calls from the recruiment agency and they told me that 2 months notice period is too long. The clients wanted me to buy myself out. Did anyone of you encounter this? Are your employers willing to wait for your notice period? I just feel that it's not worth it to buy myself out....however, I'm letting go a lot of chances. sad.gif

Also, do you guys state your current salary in RM? How to you estimate the expected salary in SGD? Let's say my salary is RM3000 now.
*
ya...these agencies want u fast, as most posts are intermediate.

And wat these agencies usually dun tell u is,

1. U are working under them, but working for their clients.
2. They can throw u anytime after the client duwan u and if they do not have other jobs for u. And u might risk being out of job.

If the SG companies r really genuine, they pay to buy u, not u buy yourself, normal practice anywer. And yes, be4 sign the job offer, demand that they pay CPF to u, make sure its calculated in your basic salary permonth, if u dun care about this, the company is not gonna be bothered remembering either.

Estimate SGD salary...SGD3k + 25% raise = SGD3700 - SGD4000--->but this depends on your market value and experience also. OH and dun forget to include your EPF amount in too. Which field are u in? If IT field...i can roughly tell u how much these agencies willing to pay.

@mIssfROGY

yeah u r right on the facts..

im worrying abot the agency too...if i get hired i will be under them or under the co. i applied for.

Normally online resume u have to fill in the current salary in S$ doller where most of us "Malaysian" have to convert in S$ which is sooo small in Sing doller.

This figure definately will pull us down in getting new jobs which demand for higher pay in Singapore.

let's make an example..

I earn rm3k coverert back to S$ = S$1315 (2.28 5th of February 08)
I demand = S$2700

I dont think tat is a nice figure for pay rise....any suggestion for that?

Current working field

Radio Network Engineer with 2 yrs eperience in Telecommunication Industry

Thanks
*
nola...u really shd demand SGD3k+25%+current employer's epf
when they ask u, tell them lo. u get SGD2700.....seriously not enuf la...i dun think its worth the trouble fo goin into SG....too low ler, wont be able to save much, better earn in msia.

Is that the standard increment rate in spore? 25%? thumbup.gif
*
Noler..its not the standard rate.....if u like, u can go for 10% or 5% or maybe a paycut...but everyone should think that they deserve a higher rate if they were to go there to work or even when change jobs in msia. Our price is really up to us to put....if u put a high price, u might just get it, else negotiate down. If u put a low price, then nego...your price might even go lower.....and then, when u calculate, is it that worth it to work there at all? If of coz if u r really desperate to go, by all means, put a low price...higher chances of getting a job there.

u mean lets say i earn rm3k i should demand for S$3k + 25% on top of that..wow im luckly enough to get a higy pay like tat smile.gif

but us "Malaysian" they will pull down our price and let us with no options to take the figure. I got a call from Job Agency say her client can offer max S$2.5k...sigh.... still can survive act....
*
yesler...to me i think we shd...but if u think u can survive or if taking less is more worth it to u than working in msia, then by all means do it. To me, i feel that they shd pay me high enuf to make me leave msia coz being away from my family for that kind of money is not worth it. So it depends on each person's preferences.

2.5k got include your epf money or not? You havent include your EPF money into your 3k rite? Btw....if u r working under these agencies, they most proly dun gib bonus also.....did u count in your bonuses?

misfroggy, so if u think for contract which is high risk have to ask for the maximum basic salary ? i think there is a maximum cap set by the agency which says the client is willing to pay this much only ...... but later they will say don't bother talking HR related stuff to the client since the agency is the one paying the salary .....
*
oh btw.....the clients memang know your salary one....so i think no problem telling them. And Those clients memang duwan to pay high pay, if they can press down, they will press down. Btw, many times, malaysia companies pay higher than singapore companies even after conversion (but usually applies to those who have more than 4-5 years experience in IT especially in SAP/DWH/DBA related jobs)

i think it is better to stay at sg while u r working there.
the travelling from jb to sg is pathetic ....
*
ya i agree
last time i work at cityhall, stay in redhill..just few stations away also can be quite troublesome, because there is alot of walking going on. Wah if wanna tambah the causeway and the distance from johor to sg to work.....can go gila loo, if bangun lambat, DIE big time...unless you are working near the border ler...then staying in johor will be ok.

and if u calculate, the travelling u pay, pay a lil more to stay in sg.

so missfroggy u mean that agencies offering S$2.5k mostly without bonus? anything else i should consider or ask if any calls come in?

but most MNC co. will hire agency to seek for stuff....
*
usually these agencies do not pay u bonus...these are things u gotto clarify with them whether they pay u or not. yeaps..usually large MNCs and it depends whether these MNCs wanna pay u bonus or not. Sometimes u can get lucky where the MNCs convert u to their permanent staffs.

wow..is true to tat travelling is a hassle from JB to S'pore~

Guys just got a call from Agency ...MissFroggy..sigh really no bonus and they offer me another post where is 2 yrs contract..

after 2 yrs there's an option to be permanent or extend your contract...
and Maybe Yes/ Maybe No to have bonus after 2 yrs...

Sigh...bond for 2 yrs is a big question whether the job environment u like/ work load/ benefits for contract stuff...

The job? yes is something related to me and is a challange for me to learn more new things, is just the bonding part and bonus~~ hmm...
Can u guys work for 2 yrs without bonus?

Need some input here thanks guys!
*
yeah....btu some contract work got bonus if the company u r working for is generous enuf. many do not know this until they signed the deal. LOtsa benefits also tak ada like CPF/BonUs/etc...so u gotto actually CALCULATE your annual package and include that in your asking salary if u wanna work for these agencies. Because if the end u r losing out alot if u dun and realised too late that u are not earning much more in singapore.
Terence, for your case, i think its not worth it la.....they paying u how much and wats your current annual package in Msia?

I dun feel the living expenses in singapore is dam high. My earning is not that high, at least not hit the amount you mention. I still can living quite comfortably in singapore with my pay and have some saving. May be definition of the comfortable life for everyone is different.
*
sorry, i shd rephrase this. It really varies from cases to cases. For my case, I mean it does not justify the time i am spending away from my family for that kind of money. Its just too lil. If i wanna be away...it gotto be alot more and not what i can also earn in malaysia. And in malaysia, i do not need to pay rent, or makan out. For me, i calculate that also. Besides...most work in singapore for malaysians are contract base...they do not include bonuses/epf/etc and long term security with the company, they can kick you out anytime. but then again, its up to u guys. Sometimes, neva try neva know. When go there oredi you might have a better luck such as getting a better pay job or permanent jobs. Good Luck guys thumbup.gif

btw..wat i realised is everybody wana go singapore..and usually they calculate the money after exchange rate....they neva include the living expenses and also the bonus/epf/etc not included in their salary. End up....after calculation malaysia seemed to pay a higher salary. So these people usually willing to take a paycut in SGD thinking that its still higher...but in actual fact its not worth it unless u r thinking of migrating or dun mind being away from family or wanna start a life in singapore. But if u r going purely for the money, its not worth it. But if u r getting an offer which is higher than your salary perannum in SGD, by all means go ahead. Just informing you guys not to be too excited when get offer and jump.

Demanding SGD3.5k is quite unreasonable if you have less than 2 years experience.

Just my 2 cents.
*
I am not asking everyone to demand 3.5k...i am just saying if u can earn more than 3.5k in sg...go ahead. Less than that not worth it to me. To me, If less than 2 years experience and cannot earn more than 3.5k = Dun go lor
But thats me la....coz i calculate everything....i put money above everythign else if i were to be away from my family becoz i dun like to be away from them. For me....i need to be earning alot more to justify the time i am away from them. wub.gif

@chess_gal and mIssfROGY

haha i get what u gals mean.

Btw S'pore to M'sia is just 5 hours journey. Aeroline can reach at 4 hour + no worries

Earnings at S'pore for S$3.5k off course is good but somehow is still related on the market value for each different fields.

Where myself is a Telco Engineer with 2 yrs exp i dont think they will pay me 3.5k hehe if yes im going to "Belanja" u guys lunch hehe

Anyway with S$2.2k also enough for a living at S'pore where my fren can save at least S$1k+ every month and guess what he got plenty of Guess jeans hehe

Away from Family? haha is okie for me where i been working at Aus too never been home for 2 yrs. Tat's y now i choose S'pore which is nearer i can come back once a month.

Branded Stuff haha ya true the doller to doller spending is cheaper at S'pore never forget the LV is cheaper too compare to M'sia n Aus
just my opinion ~
*
oh then in your case, go to singapore smile.gif
Are u already in Singapore?

I believe these are recruitment agencies acting on behalf on the companies.

Do note that you do not need to pay the recruitment agencies anything, as they will bill the company upon successful placement.

AnimeAsia;
Dyong is right, but then again these are the agencies i am warning everyone about. They can kick u out after the companies do not wan your service, but then again on the bright side.....u might get permanent with the company u r working for if they like you, or u can start looking for permanent jobs when u r there coz its easier if u r there. And u can always raise your concern to the agencies about not being hired anymore after the contract with the company is over...see what they say about that....maybe they can help u.

Dyong;
goof wife?? y do u say that? because i am calculative?? brows.gif I am like that in nature..

Hi Dyong,
Thanks for reply,

My offer letter stated Salary offered inclusive CPF? What they mean by this?
This is a contract position. Is it means they will deduct my salary and contribute to CPF once im become a PR?
*
Meaning your salary include CPF oredi.

Example:
SG salary SGD1500 include employer's CPF inside the SGD1500
MY salary Rm1500 + another 11% employer's epf = RM1665

And yes, if u become PR, they will deduct your salary for employee's CPF as well as Employer's CPF into your CPF because your salary included both employee's and employer's part. This is one of the little things that they didnt tell you.
