This website is useful. Is the answer get from here? http://www.iras.gov.sg/irasHome/page.aspx?id=1190#resident

Like the example above, worked for 5 months is less than 183 days, so the conclusion will be: this is categorized as non-residence thus neither relief nor rebate can be claimed and has to pay at a flat rate of 15%, $10000x15%=$1500 tax payable.

Am I right with the above conclusion? Perhaps someone can correct it for me? rolleyes.gif

You are suppose right but you forget one thing. Who those who earn less than 20k per year does not eligible for tax. So your example does not require to pay tax

QUOTE(seantang @ Jul 4 2008, 05:07 PM)
I actually received my employment pass without even submitting copies of my certs with the application form, much less the originals. I think as long as a company wants to hire you and is willing to vouch that you will be gainfully employed in Singapore, an employment pass will be issued.

It's when you apply for PR that the authorities become quite strict with your original certificates. I had to bring all the originals to an over-the-counter interview at the immigration dept before they approved my PR application.
*
I think the reason you can get EP without submit certs is because your salary already over the range due to there is few aspect can let you get EP

1) for foreigners with monthly basic salary of S$2,501 and above and possess acceptable degrees, professional qualifications or specialist skills.(Q1 Pass)

2)A P1 Pass will be issued if the applicant's monthly basic salary is more than S$7,000.
3) A P2 Pass will be issued if the applicant's monthly basic salary is more than S$3,500 and up to S$7,000.

I think seantang you should be in category 2 or 3. tongue.gif

PS: something to add,More likely, if your basic monthly salary is below $2,500 but you have an acceptable university degree or diploma from a recognised educational institution in Singapore, you may also apply for the Employment Pass

That's the problem that I am facing now. My salary is below 2500 yet my company apply a Q1 pass for me. My application is approved (without submit any cert to the online application) and I need to go over MoM for the green card next week. I do not have cert, only results transcipt and a letter that proved my qualification. I would like to know that is that enough for the MoM to grant me the Q1 employment pass
*
I think should be ok with the letter that proved your qualification, however you already have no other choice but try it out

I totally disagree that the food at sg is better than msia. For your info, some of those food which is consider nice is actually cook by msia people itself.
*
I will say half half. If you compare normal hawker food, I think msia food better. Of course there is still some nice hawker food around singapore but you really need to scout it out. Eg is the geylang lorong 27a or 29 hokkien prawn mee and satay(chicken, pork, lamb), its really nice, Katong laksa near holland village, fried kuey teow near golden mile bugis, chicken rice near chinatown and some others also good.

For restaurant food, I will give a thumb to singapore food. This might be due to power of currency, the cost is less thus with same amount of money( dollar to dollar) we can enjoy some better food. Eg baby back rib from tony roma(msia no pork rib), kuriya japanese buffet. Korean bbq i still prefer daore in msia. haven't find really good worth money in singapore. A brazilian buffet near bukit timah ( forget name, need booking even weekday).

Hey, the thing i dislike is the long queue at the customs... sometimes feel like going back to KL to meet my parents or friends but once i think that i have to wait for 1.5 hrs in the Singapore custom on Friday 7pm... i pull myself from going back to Malaysia.. Ppl there is lining up 2 rows for a custom door...lol..

Really hope that Singapore can be like Malaysia... juz show the passport to the lazy immigration officers sitting down there at the booth and you can pass-through easily... really save a lot of time especailly for us working which wanted to rush back to KL every week..
*
Just get an access card for SGD30, you can pass through kastam in less than 5 minutes.

What access card u r talking about? Izit the APEC card? Can pls share where and how to apply? 1 access card can use how long?
*
the link below should help you.
http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=196&secid=195

If you are using WP, EP those, the access card is valid for 1 yr/ the duration of your pass. However if your are PR, the access card is valid for 3 years, more worth the money. Even for 1 yr i still think its worth of money.
