WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 189
Antec VP400 - RM 119

What software do you use to make video? Some software do use GPU, if yes then you can add a low end GPU for it.

I was thinking should I either get Core i7-4790 without dedicated GPU or get Xeon V3 + Mid tier GPU due to budget tight.

NEW Hardware need: CPU, HDD, MOBO, RAM, PSU, Cooler, Chasis, ODD (GPU Optional)
Hardware re-use: Liteon 900S 256GB
Budget: RM2600
Purpose: Photoshop, Illustrator, Coreldraw (no 3D render) need snappy read/write performance only.

[Purpose]: For general use, gaming, work

[Hardware re-used] : Monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse

Small question
Would it be better to get a Intel xeon CPU or go for the GTX 970?

Many thanks for advice

Sick and tired donating money to Cyber cafe. So here's my requirement, hope you guys can give me some suggestion.

[Background] 30+ year old male ready to be domesticated with girlfriend at new home. No more late night cyber gaming, so it is best to switch back to college-mode home entertainment.

[Budget] Haven't been looking into PC hardware for a decade, so I wouldn't know what would be the reasonable range.

[Purpose] Gaming, surfing, torrenting movies and porn.

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Nill

[Monitor resolution] For PC, I came from the good old 1024 x 768 days. I have a 2007 Macbook but I couldn't even remember the resolution. What would be the ideal resolution for modern gamers?

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Dota2 and many many more PC games that I have missed out throughout my adult years...and more games to come.

[Personal preferences]

[Location] Puchong. But I'm working in a building next to Lowyat. Yes, I'm lazy.

I would suggest wait for Broadwell as well (Should be here very soon), current Haswell Refresh processor iGPU is not really good compared to the Iris Pro on Broadwell i5/i7.

If cannot wait, then I will go for the following:

Intel Xeon E3 1231 V3 - RM 949
Asrock H97 Pro4 - RM 389
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 209
Leadtek GTX750 2GB GDDR5 - RM 499
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 189
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 199
Asus DVD-RW SATA ODD - RM 59
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 135

Total: RM 2628 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

Included a dedicated GPU for hardware and DX acceleration.

How soon? ETA like 1months? hmm.gif If that really so, then I think gonna do some maintenance on the current C2D rigs, I think is mobo broken down due to keep hangs all the time.

Casing yes but monitor nope.

Some refinements to the build.

Intel Core i5 4460 - RM 679
MSI B85M-E45 - RM 289
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM x2 - RM 418
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 - RM 699
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 189
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 199
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 135
Samsung S22C170BS monitor - RM 409

Total: RM 3017 (GPU price is under limited promotion by Cyntrix/Techview/other participating outlets, others are Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

If you cannot find the GTX960 @RM699 or the promotion is over, change to Sapphire R7 265 or downgrade to GTX750Ti, both can easily max out Dota 2.

Thanks. Yeah, please include Windows OS, anything after Windows 7 should do fine and the OS should have the mobo's native drivers.

Give me some time to research the hardware first, besides the keywords such Intel, Kingston, Benq, Edifier and Logitech. The rest looks french to me.

Windows 7 and 8.1 will be eligible for Windows 10 free upgrade next month so I think just get Windows 7 now because the price difference between 7 and 8.1 is quite big, just use it for roughly for 5 weeks then you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

@terence_nwb

Hey there,

Questions:

1. Does the mobo have PS2 ports?

2. Does the mobo have 2 RAM slots?

3. What's the price for 500gb HDD?

4. FSP Hexa+ 550W: the power supply, is this the expensive kind of power supply? Is there an "average" range power supply?

5. Is there a cheaper alternative for Thermaltake Versa?

6. How about changing the processor to i7?

7. I'm pretty sure the mobo has more than 2 SATA slots? Can confirm??

8. Can include in a cheap ass but reliable DVD ROM?

1. Yup, 1 keyboard and 1 mouse PS/2 port.

2. It has 4 RAM slots.

3. Price for 500GB HDD is around RM 169, just RM 20 difference, I suggest just get the 1TB, it is more worth.

4. FSP Hexa series is mid end PSU, average range of PSU normally falls between RM 150 - RM 250, the component inside the PSU determines the quality of the PSU, not just the price btw.

5. Aerocool V3X ~RM 100 - RM 110

6. Change to i7 is possible with RM 500 top up but I suggest Xeon E3 1231 V3 (RM 949), same tier with i7 with lower clock speed and no iGPU only.

7. It has 4 SATA 3 ports and 2 SATA 2 ports. And this is M-ATX mobo, change to ATX size (top up RM 100 for Asrock H97 Pro4) for 6 SATA 3 ports and more PCIE slots.

8. Asus DVD-RW SATA ODD, or any other brands, price is same (RM 59).
