KLCI drops 18.55pts to close at 1,691.92 as Greece woes dampen sentiment.

Areca Capital Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Danny Wong said the KLCI was down on sentiment following the deteriorating situation in Greece.

“The index is down on dampened sentiment, following worries on the situation in Greece. Due to this, there has been a broad selldown on emerging markets, which includes the Malaysian market,” Wong said.

Wong also noted the possible downgrade by Fitch Ratings on Malaysia's credit rating. But he said the probability of a downgrade was “rather slim”.

“Fitch is basing the potential downgrade on lower global oil prices. Oil prices have been down for about nine months already, and there has not been a significant impact on Malaysia’s trade and current account surplus, so the effect is not as bad as they thought,” he said.

If the figures I saw so far are correct, I don't quite understand why the Greece's effect (debt of some 350 billion E) is bigger than Shanghai's recent drops (more than a trillion US$) on global stock markets.

Ya Greek problem is affecting the whole world .....Dow is down 350 pts. n 3% drop across Europe ..not just 6211 alone.

I am planning to re buy some 0128 for medium term too.......

Fund buying of key index stocks saw the FBM KLCI surging more than 15 points at midday on Tuesday on window dressing activities.

At 12.30pm, the KLCI was up 15.56 points or 0.92% to 1,707.48. Turnover was 995.25 million shares valued at RM891.23mil. There were 376 gainers, 293 losers and 292 counters unchanged.
