currently very busy wif work
and counterstriking so not much time to tweak my system it is just that when i tweak the graphix too much (from default 570++ to 640 - core) i will get hang-ups (blue screen of nvdisp_dll error) and no artifact show up at all so any body here tweak the pcie voltage b4? plus one more quirk when i oc my proc to 3.6 my graphix will oc along as well to a default 628 core automatically... hmmm... weird... |

You counterstrike also?? Which server? nick?
what gfx ur using? 570 to 640 is a pretty big jump, why dont u try smaller jumps? I increased my PCIE voltage to +2, it helps in system stability, previously i left mine at 0 and was getting kinda unreliable 4ghz overclocks, now running it at +2 and able to get 4.1ghz overclocks on water ur gfx core is independent of ur cpu core, weired...which tool are u using to overclock ur gfx core clocks? Eh? i tot i mentioned oledi somewhere in this thread 'bout what happened to my GA-8N-SLI .. the southbridge is burnt, i guess cuz suddenly all my usb ports are malfunctional and also the (integrated) sound is gone. the shop said that the manufacturer can't fix it, so they replace it with a new board. so basically, it is a new board. |

mcchin, coolmaster,
whats the highest fsb the both of you managed to get on your ga-8n-sli? I managed to get up till 225mhz and then it hits a wall and I'm not able to go any higher... I been reading that the nvidia nforce 4 chipset has problems going higher than 225mhz, any truth to that? poor coolmaster...first OC until southbridge go south..... |

BurgerRI
i am sorta near that value too getting instability near 3.6 gz(240*15)(~960 QDR) plus when i over clock, i have to jump a few value (not increasing continously with every cycle) since increasing to some fsb, my ram will have to run @ speed of ~548 though i use expert, the ram freq also seems to increase a lil (a cycle of 522mhz to 548mhz,) maybe i have to chane the ram |

finally got bored over the week-end
and plus my fans got really dusty, with dust literally dis-assemble every thing and got to cleaning... and while i am at it.... Hm.. why not lap the heat-sink-fan, My Giga-G-Power Pro and when i am finished I thought.... since waiting for my HSF fins to dry... why not lap the IHS of my Pentium D 930.. the result... ![]() ![]() ![]() and what the IHS is a copper coated with a layer (of nickel I presume) ( the nickel it seem to be useful here, it really protect the copper base material, I have seen small scratches on the IHS caused by the screw holes of the HSF) plus when i lap both of it I found out it is concave shape, the HSF as well as IHS which it is sunk in the middle a bit for now i let i be and let it run for a few day b4 i try OC again, then maybe find a flat glass block and re-lapp it again.... edit: p/s . oh ya just saw the pic in real size, and the second picture, there seems to be a scratch-like black line, well.. it is the reflection of my house 12" tall abestos ceiling. on related news,
there will be a spat of upgrading on my machine 2gig ddr667 (1gig X 2 ram kit) to replace 1gig(single) samsung ddr533 = ~400(value ram) or add another xfx7600GT = ~599 plus a zalman Vf700 Al-Cu = ~110 buy "below sea-line" HDD = ~200 (must buy) hmm... which one is important, any suggestions? Is the ram important (cause i fell the ram is limiting the OC-ing) or a SLI setup... |

if u ask me, i'll go for the rams..
i've read somewhere that at least 667mhz memory is needed for a truly dual-core performance. 533mhz won't do much different from a single-core processor.. |

Good Stuff.. Mcchin...Lapping the IHS will normally help drop the temps by a couple of degree's...after lapping my ihs, i managed to get a much better temp readout especially on load...
