I believe it does not really matter single or double poles. The reason for having double pole isolators is because it is essential in the event of an hard-wired appliance neutral-earth fault happened, allowing householder to switch off and isolate the faulty equipment easily and safely and able to reset tripped RCD to restore power to the rest of the house. A single pole switch will be useless in this situation. As you can see why lighting switches are single pole since in general there is no ground wire to the bulbs or lighting fixture.

It is also important when electricians run megger test. The 500 volts meggering voltage otherwise could damage appliances in the premises if not isolated. More or less it is a matter on convenience to be able to isolate out the bad circuit from the rest of healthy circuit to turn the power back on.

Yesterday I trip the rcd when the screw driver touch the light metal casing when screwing the N connector. I have OFF the whole role light. And meter show no voltage present.

Metal casing connected to Earth?

I read new RCD is more like combination of RCD and ELCB. They trip when E and N shorted I believe.

No voltage between L and N wire? I think there can be some voltage measured usually. My 20A switch also still has neon light still on, though slightly dimmed. The newer switch with LED is also not totally off. However this is not dangerous. Test pen will also light up smile.gif

It is earth.

Switch off. L and N no voltage.

It happen because N is using on another role of light. Which that role of light is still ON.

Remember switch side don't have N. Only ON/OFF the L.

Yes. that is true. The N side is looped. If any light in that same loop is switched on, you have 240V on the N point of each light point regardless the switch position. Normally by standard, if not mistaken, 6 light point for each 6A MCB. You need to switch off at MCB to isolate the circuit.

The gateway can use as a night light
They do make another for nightlight but it’s a stand-alone meaning it’s not smart and no need to add to the gateway
It does have a buildin sensor

Dear all sifus,

i have been a silent reader for this forum, learning a lot here. Just want to get opinion for a refurbished single storey house (new wiring, external conduit), industrial style. So far only wet works done, sewage done. Now pending grilles, external copper piping (DIY) and electric wiring.

1. Lighting - Planning to use stupid switch, with smart bulbs. Total 10 bulbs hall, 2 bulb per room (total 6), 2 per toilet (total 4), backyard 2, front 2. Total 26. logical? cos wanna have the yellow light / white light changing features.
If opt for switches, erm...I need about 8-10 units. Which is better for new home?

2. Xiaomi Aqara Air Conditioning Companion, only 1HP A/C and below? Saw someone said 16A can be bought from China (https://item.jd.com/10781985686.html). Worth it to have this? Total 4 A/C, 3 rooms, 1 Hall. And a Air Curtain.

3. Smart sockets. I am planning to use a tank water heater, roughly 30-45L, so wanna do some schedule for it to on and off. OK ar?

4. Getting Xiaomi's AI thinge, to learn mandarin and have some companionship lol. Anyone using this? fun ar?

6. So many devices, my router...I haven't research. Need to get a proper one?

Any reason for using tank water heater? I would suggest instant one, one for each bathroom. Tank will used up more power and excess heated water will cool down wasted between period. Furthermore, if the unit is down, none of the bathroom will get hot water laugh.gif

1) Smart switch much cheaper. Since you are doing electrical wiring, just add neutral wire.

2) idoblu

3) blink.gif Smart socket? Use high amperage switch like Sonoff POW or TH16.

4) Got one fella selling his. marcus_bread?

5) hmm.gif Your router not proper meh? Describe further.
