sifu, Im still undecided to use xiaomi ecosystem in my bathroom, ie aqara smart light switch, xiaomi motion sensor and xiaomi gateway , mainly due  to the price , the total cost will be rm 260 just for the bathroom, do you think is worth since for the other project that im thinking about just to replace all light switch that near to AC to sonoff. But for sure , some light switch im also need Xiaomi due to the place is far from AC socket.

what your opinion

Maybe just use sonoff t1 + pir sensor combo?
Probably can save more on that

Yeah so I'm looking for a good value for money security camera which has some basic "smart" features / AI capabilities.

Doesn't need to be top end stuff but prefer not to have to buy some unbranded Chinese security camera with unpolished software.

Nest Cam US pricing is okay (~RM500 - RM600) but local Lazada prices for Nest Cams are ridiculous (~RM1100) and I am not willing to pay double.

Any other options?

What do you intend to do with the security cams and Google Home/Assistant?
What do you mean by the bolded statement above? You want the cam to talk to you? unsure.gif

QUOTE(alucard89 @ Sep 9 2018, 06:42 PM)
By default can, seems like straightforward setup with Lenovo Smart Display.
*
Yup, just saw an article that mentioned that it can do that.

Rome wasn't built in a single day.
Think of your smart home plan as a journey or marathon instead of a sprint.
If money an issue, then do which is most important to you.
Heck, I only started Home Assistant with an old Foscam IP camera. biggrin.gif
What I see is that you want to automate the light in your bathroom. Other area, i'm not sure what you want to achieved by just changing switches. rclxub.gif

Then it is YOU who have to decide if the price is worth it or not.
It is YOUR MONEY and not ours. Different people have different sensitivity towards price.

wiring is a pain for me as i had a tough time closing the damn thing back into the wall junction box.
anyone planning to get this better take note that you either need to ensure that the wall cavity is large enough to fit this guy and also the thick cables already in the junction. Else, will need to be creative in organising those thick cables to avoid this unit when closing. Same goes for the other Aqara wall socket (china pins) with zig bee control function. Maybe China's junction boxes are deeper hmm.gif

How many wires do you have in your switch box?
Are the wires long?

Are you talking about the concealed junction box (black plastic) or on surface one. The concealed one can be located deep or shallow depending on how thick is the plastering. In my house some has longer screw than the others.

You do not want to cut wire too short because you can never elongate it in case you need it and short wires are even harder to work with. Long ... hard to tuck in everything in. I have at certain point put 3 wires because it is spurs socket.

One trick is to thin the insulator. The wires in the wall without conduit (or even with) are normally double insulated. You can remove 1 layer of insulator.

Planning to do some home automation with voice and need your opinions.

1.)Alexa vs Google Home , which is easier to integrate? What are your experience with both of them?

2.) light switches without neutral line. Is broadlink and xiaomi aqara my only choice for wallswitches?

3.) Is broadlink switches compatible with alexa or google home?
