All app supporting matter would be able to control each other?

So like any matter enabled will be compatible with HomeKit?
*
It should, if i am not mistaken you can add it to multiple smart home platforms as well, saw a video with a guy comparing the states of the devices connected via matter to alexa google home and homekit

My aqara hub already bound to matter via Google, but I'm still waiting for a cheap deal for Google nest mini.
*
In US usually got deals for Google and Alexa products, MY not so much. Personally waiting to see what happens with Home Assistant Voice, eventually want to change all my Alexa and Homepods to local voice assistant speaker

Lo and behold, there was a beta update for my Gen 1 M1S , with support for matter. Ive just updated it and nothing broke yet. But i have yet to update my homekit to the new architecture (because my iMac and older iOS devices dont support it). Once i get some matter devices, probably have to bite the bullet and not be able to control homekit with those obsolete devices.
*
I upgraded to the new architecture about a month ago, so far no issues. Very happy with HKSV performance (cameras through Scrypted), I am just waiting for some dev to come with ability to create dummy apple homekey locks so that i can buy one that best suits my needs.

Thats great! I just feel sayang that if i update to the new architecture to get matter, then my iMac and iPad Air and iPhone 6 Plus would be out of service for homekit. But matter is inevitable. Theres one thing though, for the M1S, i have 2 , one on the Aqara App, and one on Mi Home. The Aqara one was updated to matter compatibility. Not sure how to update the Mi Home one. Anyone knows?

Yes, i would love to have a homekey plugin, but not sure how that would tie into my existing non-homekey Aqara D100 lock. The software for the lock seems to be very tied down, now sure how they can implement that. I can by pass it using a dummy switch now, maybe something along those lines, like a dummy homekey lock, then once that triggers, launch an automation that unlocks the actual lock.

By the way , for HKSV, if im on the 5gb free plan, what happens? Now im still on FFMPEG cos i dont have any icloud storage. Would i need to upgrade to the 2TB one? I have 22 cameras on homekit…
*
Well people managed to reverse engineer HKSV, so surely the homekey thing also could be done. I have the 2TB family plan (its expensive but i do use apple music and i can share storage with my family whatever larh just have to bear with that cost) and i think if you have to get the 2TB plan for unlimited cameras, damn 22 cameras thats crazy, but good thing is that it doesnt eat into the 2TB storage. Pretty sure you need at least the 50GB plan to use 1 camera, 200GB i think 5 and 2TB unlimited. So far i am happy with the setup, its dual recording to HikVision NVR and motion based recording to HKSV and its actually pretty easy to share certain clips of the recording.

I noticed there's a few plugins available with scryped for the usual camera brand (hikvision/daihua etc)
Could any other generic brand work? Like sricam or other china brand that doesn't expose rtsp port
*
If it has Onvif then can, otherwise you will have to dig into their wiki page. Easiest would be cameras with RTSP and thats what i am using.

I have the Aqara N200 door lock and found that although it pairs up nicely with the aqara hub that I bought, but it does not function as an offline gateway. Meaning it can only pair up when I am connected to wifi.

If I am looking to connect via bluetooth too, does it mean that I have to invest in another bluetooth gateway?
*
It has NFC right? Use that instead?

Anyone automating their curtains with generic or particular branded zigbee smart curtain with z2m in HASS? What to do if the particular model is not supported in z2m?

Am prepping my mini server before migrating it all into the new home. Just want to make sure everything i am planning for is working, getting different kinds of zigbee devices and testing them out.

Thanks.
*
If buying new why not go for thread devices?

Wish Zigbee could just be upgraded to thread larh since they are based on similar tech

What brands here locally that has Thread now btw...?
*
Zemismart already has some thread devices, smart curtain device also i did see. The companies are slowly rolling out larh, but since new home might as well get the most future proof one but nothing really wrong with zigbee and probably for now price of zigbee stuff is going to be of better value.

Awaiting for more thread products... so I don't need so many different hubs  sweat.gif my curtains are on lifesmart... need dedicated hub which is homekit compatible.
*
I am personally sticking with zigbee for the foreseeable future just because i already have loads of them.

So I need to look for supervised HA for docker?
Synology DSM 7.2, this is my 24/7 running system 😅
*
Ah ok, i also have a 24/7 thing running, i am guessing synology cant run VMs? Because thats what i am using on Unraid, used to have a dedicated Intel Nuc for HA, but built an OP unraid PC and merge multiple stuff.

Just finished making a portable zigbee rain sensor. Used a Tuya zigbee door sensor, soldered the leads of a rain sensor module to it, put it into a housing, and thats it. Now whenever it rains, i get a notification in Tuya App or Apple Home. Didnt go with the leak sensor cos that one has a loud alert, even if you mute your phone at night.

Pretty pleased with the outcome

How does it work?
Do you still need actual matter devices or just the matter hub like google mini speakers
*
Pretty sure you need the Aqara hub for its stuff to be matter capable since it still uses Zigbee. I think a lot of people often get confused with thread and matter.

I filtered out these 3 selections for my auto-gate

1. https://shopee.com.my/eWeLink-DC-2-Channel-...7179.3160607519
user posted image
Pro: easiest
Cons: unknown chips and not sure can flash custom firmware.
RM60

2. https://shopee.com.my/ESP32-SX1276-LoRa-WIF...646.14480142838
user posted image
Pro: better chips, can flash firmware
Cons: expensive, need to dyi soldering for connectivity, no case, alot of efforts needed
RM140

3. Buy all parts and assemble myself, esp32+RF433MHz receiver
Pro: cheapest and no sure what different compared to (2)
Cons: same as (2) + nightmare awaiting
RM50
Getting (1) choice is very tempting, but I want to hear your review.
*
I use the first choice one, having been using it for 2 years + with DC Moto board, i would say i am pleased with it. Feel free to ask me any questions if you want to know more. I have it linked with HA and interface with the gate on HomeKit.

I see. Can the switches from Taobao connect to Home Assistant?

Aqara aside, any other brands to recommend?

Sonoff? Yeelight?
*
I think the other guy could try to change to China server and connect them, but he will need to reconnect everything; i had to go through that. Are the switches from taobao even much cheaper than the ones on Shopee tho? If you are planning to use the Aqara hub, as long as they can pair with the hub then yes it connects to HA.

Yeah, but since it works in HomeKit mode don’t plan to reconnect. Unless I replace hub in the future then can consider 😆.
*
Well you are already using M2, probably will never need to unless also changing all the switches.

You using any E1 switches by any chance? How are they compared to the D1?

I have a pair of E1 Smart Switch because seller sent wrongly to me, eventually they sent me D1 replacements so untung lah. First impression the E1 takes much less space behind the switch compared to D1, and its easier to finetune the switch position (mine mostly installed on carpentry without the electricals boxes).

I think the E1 relay sounded louder than the D1, other than that no differences in terms of performance. Need use longer to see if the E1 is as durable as the D1.
*
Actually not to say untung larh, E1 isnt the direct upgrade of D1 its actually H1. E1 is supposed to be a cheaper version of H1. And even compared to D1, most of the max power rating of E1 is less than D1. I was considering getting some E1 stuff and mix with D1s or change everything to E1 and sell D1 stuff, but leceh and although the switches maybe cheaper or same price depending on the config, most of the sensors are like double the price so its pointless unless changing everything to Zigbee 3.

BTW on Lazada Kilobits store, there is a deal for Wireless D1 Switches, i feel its at a ridiculous price.
