I am thinking on settling down on the Xiaomi ecosystem as I already have several devices with them namely:

3x Xiaomi purifiers (global version)
2x Yeelight ceiling light/fan

I will be adding an Aqara Zigbee smart lock, aqara switches, several Aqara motion sensors, a Xiaomi ecosystem/Google home compatible robot vacuum.

1) I understand that China versions of Xiaomi/Aqara products are cheaper than global versions. Will a Xiaomi smart speaker work with a China region Xiaomi app using English voice commands?

* Xiaomi smart speaker is apparently integrated with Google Home

2) My main focus right now is automation/scheduling. Some scenarios below:

- Entering the house via the Aqara smart lock will turn on the Yeelights and fan in my living room.
- Entering rooms will turn on the lights using Aqara motion sensors and switch off when there is no one present
- Yeelights' brightness and colour temperature is adjusted differently according to the time. For eg: Colour temperature of Yeelights would be warmer and brightness lower 7pm onwards if motion sensor is triggered. Vice versa for morning/afternoon.

3) Are there other eco systems offering smart switches/devices as cheap as Aqara/Xiaomi? I was watching this video below where the person mention Samsung Smart Things is a great platform to consolidate all the different platforms together in a single app?

Man I would really hate having so many apps in my phone tbh.


4) Is there a "leave home" profile which triggers when I leave the house via the Aqara smart lock. A pop up or something I can click on my phone? The profile will switch off selected smart devices in the house like the lights/fan/air-con/etc? Which platform offers this? Mijia/Smart things?

Better to be something you need to confirm and not automated because there might be occupants in the house and you don't want all the devices to turn off.

my 2cents
1. totally agreed one the neutral cable, u will not regret it. ☺️
2. as for network cabling, it is very important... more important than ur mesh wifi. U only need mesh wifi if you didnt pull network cable.
The wifi roaming is depend on your clients not AP (dont use d-link, some of their switch didnt support roaming protocol)
3. As for network cable, pls choose CAT6, no need CAT6A or above unless u r loaded. If you wish to have PoE for cctv camera, make sure the cable is 23AWG and the keystone is also supporting 23AWG.
if u use 24AWG, the power will reduced as distance increase.
4. dont choose cheap wifi ap, if u have too many IoT devices that use wifi, u will cry (zigbee is okay). Can considered enterprise grade ap even if u dont have money. hahaha
5. The power socket, mayb u want to invest the power socket that come with usb TYPE B + TYPE C.
6. If u r not using HomeAssistant, use only 1 brand for cloud app.
Imagine u have light switch, smart door, curtain, etc all using different brand. (tips u can use alexa/google home for integration... but it still troublesome)

CAT 5E supports 1Gb, no issue at all, if cable length is within 30 meters, it can go up to 5Gb

Any brand/model recommendation for main door and grill door? If can unlock both door at once better.

I will be setting up Aqara system for my house, using the M2 as hub.

I use DC Moto for the autogate, there's a cable to connect to the motor to open close... what's the best way for me to integrate this to the hub?

Great to see this thread is active and alive. I am planning to get my home renovated and plan to make it a smarthome as much as possible. Switches, curtains, AC, alarm and cctv. Found out that my new house came with Zwave ready.. And via an old (discontinued) model hub and it's connected to the home alarm system. *sigh*. Initial plan is to use all zigbee with HA but now have to put zwave into the mix.

Need advice:
1) I don't think my plugs and switches has neutral lines. Should I get it all neutral-ed (cost issue) or just use non neutral switches? So far in my current test with non neutral is pretty OK.

2) zwave + zigbee... Only way to get them under the same ecosystem is via HA?

Please do share ideas and tips since I'm going to reno.

Somehow I still prefer HomeKit's interface, I'm used to it  . Wife also used to it.

But I mainly want more conditions etc when doing the automations... HomeKit quite limited... some things I want like on switch for 1 hour and turn off, I have to install homebridge dummy, then expose a dummy switch to enable to do that... very stupid 

I guess eventually I will look into HA... just solely for automation.. but still use HomeKit when I want to manually on and off certain areas or certain scenes.

Did you encountered any missing motions detection when using HKSV as highlighted by the article below? Or already solved?
