Hey guys, those using Z2M hows the experience been so far? I have been using manufacturer hubs from the start and never had any major issues, but i was wondering if i should switch to z2m; right now have 2 Aqara M2 Hubs and 1 Phillips Hue Hub (that is only connected to 1 device LOL), wonder is it worth switching everything over even if i have to repair every device. Maybe i can sell the hubs and get 1 zigbee coordinator idk, multiple floor so thats why went with more than 1 hub.

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ Sep 9 2023, 02:19 PM) Anyone using those handle style Tuya smart lock? I'm currently using Eva M5. Want to check is it normal that any unlock activity from inside house (exiting from house) is not logged? A bit dissapointed with this because due to this now, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do my automation (eg: exit house switch off all lights etc) Dont have that lock but if no other option, you could put some nfc tag or something near your exit and it triggers that way? Door lock + NFC then you make that case as you leaving the home and trigger whatever lights etc. Or some cheap wireless button on the inside of your door, press that and if it detects door is locked then turn off whatever.

QUOTE(trespasser @ Sep 9 2023, 08:35 PM) Having look further I end up getting a Zigbee dongle which allow any Zigbee devices to talk to Home Assistant via Zigbee2MQTT. That way I got more options in getting switches. Hopefully it wont backfire on me. I am considering that as well right now although i have no issues with the aqara hub. Switches i will still stick with aqara but the sensors i might start going for tuya or sonoff ones. Anyone tried the Tuya ZY-M100 ?

QUOTE(celciuz @ Sep 14 2023, 09:12 PM) Mine is less than 1 year too, so far the seller haven't responded... ah doi. Well the switch still works so I'll probably just leave as it is until the switch spoils completely. Damn that sucks

Ok i shall stay away from these screen switches larh ..it defo looks cool tho. Waiting for my last few switches to arrive and the big migration will begin, gonna be a pain in the ass to repair all my zigbee stuff, hopefully it will be worth it.

QUOTE(celciuz @ Sep 18 2023, 11:12 AM) hence why I bought 3 of them to play around. I have about 40+ D1 connected to Aqara M2, automation via Apple Home. Relay click yes. Not tempted to change to E1 instead? Its cheaper LOL. Wow 40 is crazy, i am guessing your changes all the switches. I have too many unused switches so it doesnt make sense changing all of them, wish there was like a switch that looks exactly like aqara ones but its dumb instead. Only 1 M2? QUOTE(celciuz @ Sep 18 2023, 11:35 AM) I have 2x E1 (seller sent wrongly, but seller also resend me with new D1). Actually I prefer E1 design than D1, the E1 is easier to replace, no need to peel the case off from bottom like D1. Yes, my entire home is smart switch (minus 1 of them is my storeroom LOL). Too bad Aqara no 20A switches, else I would change those too. just to have it looking similar . I have a lot of switches to control those cabinet lights and ambient lighting... having smart switch makes it very easy to change different scenes. Rather than manually switching 1 by 1. My visitors always gets impressed when I change scenes LOL. Normally I run the downlights, but when got visit I have a few different scenes especially at my living hall where different config of lights will be used. Owh yea you mentioned earlier ...i actually did buy a few E1 during 9.9. I like it because the hump at the back is so much smaller so no issues with fitment. Yea i would love if there were Aqara 20A ones, i went with Smatrul ones that look like switches, going to replace my existing Sonoff ones which are that glass ones.

QUOTE(celciuz @ Sep 18 2023, 11:55 AM) Oh yes the E1 are way smaller than D1! Makes it more usable in those less deep sockets. But then again, E1 has much lower rating la, I’m guessing the D1 is more robust? Hopefully 😅. I have a few switches that I ordered from China for the black casing for D1 too. So far 20A I’m only looking to use it for my solar heater 🤣sometimes when I turn it on then forget to turn off 😅 Actually there is one which has a digital timer on it, so like you can manually set how long you want to run it for. I have notifications sent when its been on for 30 minutes, 1.5 hours and 3 hours just in case for mine through HA. Last time i did have plans to calculate average temperature outside from 10-5 so that it can automatically turn on for awhile at like 5/6 AM but didnt end up using that LOL, maybe should just put a thermometer where the boiler is and get info that way.

QUOTE(WildChai @ Sep 18 2023, 01:55 PM) sounds great. How do you deal with smart switches that are connected/powering lights that can be dimmed? I bought one of the new 3 gang Aqara Z1 for testing, very premium build and feel but the relay click is quite noticeable and annoying. After testing...might go for full house conversion. Thing is, my cheapo moes or smatrul switch can barely hear the relay click Dont think they play nice with those lights, better buy a switch that has that function built in.

QUOTE(WildChai @ Sep 21 2023, 08:58 PM) Curious.. Why would you want that? Easier to search? Too many switches? It doesn't matter since once the entity is associated with an automation, can rename the buttons in HA? I only know how to change it when I create my own external converters. Right now its device name lets say Sim Bedroom Switch 1 and Sim Bedroom Switch 2 (both 2 gang) the individual switches right now is switch.sim_bedroom_switch_1_left (and right) and the same for the second one as well. Just want it to be easier to distinguish in HA. I think if i just rename in HA, wont it mess with the mqtt?

QUOTE(WildChai @ Sep 22 2023, 03:17 PM) Ahh.. I see. Shouldn't be a an issue... If got issue just revert back. Whole idea of HA is lots of trial and errors. Also, maybe you should consider your naming conventions for your devices..simplify them. Acronyms. I am starting over actually, so i don't want trial and error on this second instance LOL I know its long, but i am trying to have standard naming conventions for everything. First instance has loads of mess, unused code in config etc.

QUOTE(ideaplus @ Sep 24 2023, 05:34 PM) Thank you for your reply. As I read from the beginning of this thread and some online materials, most said better to have Neutral for ceiling fan, else will burn the smart switch. Since I'm just a newbie who going to start my smart home journey, I still got lots to learn. I have some with and some without, all Aqara D1 switches, 2 years+ already no issues. Also tested with Aqara E1 which has lower max power rating, fan and light no issue.

QUOTE(celciuz @ Sep 27 2023, 05:46 PM) What I did for my 2 way switches is that one of them is a wireless switch on battery. The other is an actual switch. So I just set some rules and viola it works just like 2 way. But nowadays my stairs one I added motion sensor instead ✌🏻 If house follows code, the lighting and 13A or AC will be on different RCCB. Yep did the same thing, had to figure out how to make 1 of it into a single switch tho ... May be on different mcb but i think all the neutral not tied together? QUOTE(alucard89 @ Sep 30 2023, 10:29 AM) Need to use google translate, can’t find it on shopee or lazada except for the sa-018 model Max posted but no rf on that one. Fits behind the switch so far, even the one with thick wires There’s aliexpress link but taobao is cheaper and faster shipping https://a.aliexpress.com/_mLGdIYOI wonder if i can use that alongside another smart switch, one of my switches which i have yet to change has 3 circuits with 2 seperate live wires for some reason, 2/3 use looped live.

QUOTE(lankorn @ Oct 5 2023, 01:19 AM) Can anyone enlighten me on Zigbee tech. What zigbee can do and cannot do vs other wireless tech? You can think of it as another wifi but instead of using your wifi router, it uses zigbee router, and some zigbee devices act as repeaters to repeat the signal to other devices and you can mesh your zigbee stuff.

QUOTE(epicure @ Oct 5 2023, 03:02 PM) By the way off topic, I just bought a new usb zigbee repeater to extend the mesh on the ground floor. Plugged it in, and then realized that it didnt extend the mesh. Its working of course, but nothing seems to be using it to extend. And coincidentally, the one that i had plugged in up stairs also wasnt extending anything anymore, even though it used to. So, i rebooted the hub, and both repeaters, but still nothing. Whats happening? Does it need time to figure it out on its own and then route traffic accordingly? Its been a few days, but the network doesnt seem to be using the repeaters, but the child devices all connect to the hub, and some of them say bad network/reception. Really funny i cant figure it out What is your zigbee setup like? Using what hub or coordinator? What brand stuff do you use? If Aqara older ones they are stubborn one, they will stick to the initial paired router or repeater. You can try off your whole house electricity and on it back to power cycle switches if you have that.
