Hi everyone,
I need suggestion for a new laptop. I have a mid range gaming desktop that is an equivalent/ slightly more powerful than a ps 4. However after I start working at my current company which is around 1 year+ ago. I don't really have the time to actually play games. I don't even follow on the latest game anymore because I usually stay until late hours. Therefore rather than just letting my desktop depreciate in value even further because of time. Im thinking of selling it and get myself a laptop because other than the ones that the company provided which is the lenovo T430S(some people got newer version), I don't exactly have any laptop that I can use for my personal usage. I would like to have something portable for my own personal usage because the company are able to track everything in the the laptop. Since my desktop is immobile, it just stayed there without any maintenance. Outdated drivers and all. So I would like to have a portable laptop that is easy to manage similiar on how todays smartphone works where I can store my personal documents and comfortable enough writing documents or emails. Doing this sort of stuff in phone is just troublesome even on my 5.5 inch phone
In term of gaming, since this is a laptop, I don't expect to be playing the latest AAA title and all, i'm fine with older steam titles and with the upcoming windows 10. There's a high possibility that alot of IOS and android game are going to be ported to windows, that should cover my gaming needs. Other than that from my survey, it seems gaming laptop does't really last long. The main reason is because of the heat. They ussually will start to have problem when the age of laptop reach 1 year, sometimes before 1 year and the GPU always go out first. So not sure I want to take that risk.
Here are my criteria:
1) Preferred brand
None, I don't really care about branding
2) Budget
RM 4k and below
3) Usage
a) Libre/ microsoft office or anything in equivalent
b) Movies
c) Dual booting windows 8.1(10 incoming soon) with ubuntu
d) Light Gaming
4) Preferred size
I don't really mind the screen size as long as it is light. Using my T430s as a benchmark, based on the spec from the website. It stated that this laptop weight 1.8kg, so i'm looking at something lighter
5) Laptop that I had surveyed and my opinion on it
a) Dell XPS 13
http://www.techhypermart.com/notebooks/del...intel-w8-1.html Pros: Portable in term of weight and screen size. i5 with the intergrated gpu seems good enough for my usage, backlit keyboard
cons: With my budget can only get 4gb ram and 128 ssd. Trackpad issue
b) Aspire S7 (broadwel update)
http://www.techhypermart.com/notebooks/ace...intel-w8-1.html Pros: Same as xps 13 but with touchscreen and 8gb ram
Cons: 128 ssd
c) Asus ux305
8gb ram, 256 SSD, with 5Y10 core m
http://www.techhypermart.com/notebooks/asu...rated-w8-1.html 4gb ram, 256 SSD with 5Y71 core m
Im confuse which of this two version would be better for my usage. Im satisfied with the ssd amount but but I want the one with the faster processor + 8gb of ram
6) Some general question that in relation with laptop
a) Is a touchscreen helpful?
Personally, on a laptop I can't think of usage where I can really take advantage of the touchscreen. Perhaps playing or using game and apps that gonna be ported for windows 10
b) Trackpad and keyboard
Does any of the laptop above have the same quality as the macbook air. I every laptop review seems to mention that macbook have the best trackpad and keyboard, I don't have experience with macbook
so I can't really say. I do have 11 inch macbook air on my list though. The 226gb ssd are within my budget by the 8gb ram can only be obtained online. Whats so special about their keyboard and trackpad?\
c) Is 4gb ram and 128Gb ssd enough for me?
Since you guys are more experience, just wondering whether 4 gb is actually enough since im looking my desktop have 8gb. And 4gb seems to be bare minimum theses days. And 128gb ssd seems
quite small for a dual boot or am i just being paranoid?
d) Does shop allow to replace SSD?
My thinking is that for example for the aspire S7, maybe I can ask the shop to replace with a bigger SSD while retaining the other component. Because for the 226gb, it includes screen, processor upgrade
which makes it quite expensive
e) I'm still open for any suggestion if you have any coz I do keep UX305LN and acer V nitro in my list also
Actually those u mentioned not all suitable for gaming.. like xps13.. even though intel 5500 quite good...
Asus A series...
