MR Top Coat is the most expensive spray can for such a small can while Mr.DIY is 400cc for rm5.90. Unless you want Semi-Gloss then not much choice ACE hardware only have 1-2 brand of Semi-Gloss.

Whether it's Acrylic or Lacquer it's not good to spray inside room/home, people do it in open air like Balcony or Garden, even if it's non-Hazardous you don't want the paint smell staying in the house. People who do in room have special ventilation.

When we say hazardous we mean when you spray and the paint mist gets inhaled. A 3M respirator is always a good choice even if you spray outside, and also a protective eye glass since the mist can irritate the eyes.

If you are painting frequently just buy a Compressor & Airbrush. Bottled Mr.Clear Coat are cheaper than Cans they have Gloss & matte & you can mix.

BTW most canned paint you find outside are Lacquer or Enamel both are hazardous, Mr Color Top Coat only the Blue cans are Acrylic, white cans (Super) are Lacquer. Most Primer are Lacquer.

I still use MR top coat for finishing, but I just want to use cheaper alternative for coloring smile.gif

Will try your method if the sun comes out this weekend!

If it is hazardous I might need to stop using them though, expecting a baby smile.gif

It's more hazardous to use spray can? Wow I really dint know that.
The problem because I do not use airbrush is because my family has different sleeping time, and Airbrush emits sound.
Which airbrush set would you recommend and where can I find it? Also, I don't mind paying more for airbrush set, but I need  it to be silent.
If I am using airbrush would it be cheaper than Mr hobby / Tamiya Spray?
*
Not Airbrush making sound, Compressor making sound, if you got money can buy Canned Compressed Air they aren't cheap but are silent. But you need many cans so many it's not worth it unless you can DIY refill yourself.

Anyway if you are spraying at night it's a bad timing:
1.Cold temperature higher humidity means more uneven surface paint.
2.Cold temperature higher humidity means paint takes longer time to dry.
3.Night time can't see as well as day time.
4.You end up sleeping very late since once you're done still have to housecleaning, wash hand/bath.

So there is no silent compressor for airbrush?
I do my stuff in the day, its just some of family sleep in the day smile.gif
*
can't you do it in the balcony or garden? the noise is noticeable but ain't loud day time traffic & ur TV probably louder.

What compressor and airbrush are you using now?
*
dunno the brand, it's yellow, has auto off when pressure is full, pressure gauge & humid catcher. but not the quietest.

last time use Mr.Gunzo bottom loaded, but somehow hard to get the paint to suck up i think the straw is old or something, i have that Sparmax 0.3 but haven't test. Same brand as Tamiya Airbrush.

hehe if you look close enough no matter how hard you pressed it after softer the water decals still shown when there lighting for it to reflect light.

glossy surface will not as apparent but when in metallic matt surface you will see, still only if you look close enough... (I'm kinda perfectionist kind of guy)
*
What people do is spray a Matte Coat after applying water decal, this will mask the edges & look less noticeable, then they spray a gloss/semi-gloss top coat if they want that finishing.

Hi guys, is there anyone joining the malaysian gunpla art festival punya malaysian book of records thing? I'm asking cause they say bring kits in display cases but mine usually I keep inside glass cabinet. Anyone know what kinda display case(s) is suitable for this kind of event? I planning to bring 3 MG 3 RG 3 HG and 1 NG
*
if you bring 1 or 2 MGs, that square box with lights from Ikea called Syanas seems convenient. but it's rm139.

http://www.ikea.com/my/en/catalog/products/80219622/

Home Pro IOI City have some acrylic shoe boxes that can be used as display box, around rm2x. Can fit 25cm tall, 10cm thick, 19cm wide.

After u clean the nubmark, is there anyway to cover it? i guess it's impossible right since it's chrome plated
*
just sand the surface until you cannot feel the bump, then wipe it clean & brush a layer of Future Floor on it, all will disappear. just make sure dark colors like black you don't leave a white mark residue there. it won't be perfect gloss compared to sand/dry coat/wet coat/compound/wax, but you will still achieve mirror gloss.

saw something like this in 1U Tamiya before but is bike, i dunno how they fix everything on it permanently, but lining everything up in absolute symmetrical is difficult, even with lined backdrop but i don't see how you can put a guiding backdrop seems the backdrop seems to be plain.

btw lazy way to frame a Gundam

Wow what is this future floor and where to get it? I tried googling and i saw a floor cleaner brand called pledge. Also, how much is it and how much should I use? More info please =D
*
ACE Hardware, they call it Future Floor Finish, same bottle different name. Price around rm5x.

Can airbrush, use cloth like car wax or use brush. But if you mess it up hard to fix as it will show the marks when you recoat unless you remove the whole layer.

Oh and also any1 know where to get a good respirator/gas mask (lol) for airbrushing cause i heard airbrushing without one will cause severe headaches
*
you can get cheap 3M from China on ebay, or you can go Ace hardware buy the more expensive but lower grade mask, you need the Dust Filter + Gas Vapour Filter. China ones comes in 1 set.

If i were to repaint the gunpla in their respective color in the runner by using can spray, will they appear to be smooth compare to airbrushing?  And how to determine the color which complement or identical to the runner's official colors?
*
if you want the color to be identical to the runner, why would you want to repaint them the 1st place? since if you plan to matte coat it you won't be able to tell the difference once you top coated it. just paint the areas that needs to be painted.

remember you need to prime the runners, which means more uneven surface on the nub marks once you remove them, and then you end up sanding off the paint you just painted near the nub marks and end up having to touch up more which includes filling up the nub area so it's even with the rest.

if you are doing weathering effects, painting the runners with original color would be less effective since the weathering will cover up the surface. unless you go for competition.

i don't know which mask you bought, but i have 7501 (M Size), it has double filter with 2 6001 vapor filters & 5N11 dust pre-filters + filter retainer. but not really suitable for spec/eye protector wearing since it covers until the nose area.

note there are bootleg 3M masks on ebay. i bought mine around rm100 from China but still not 100% sure is original or not, but seller write disclaimers they are real.

Hi,

sorry if this has been asked before. Can someone recommend me a shop that sell tools for modelling? looking for stuff like cutter / plastic saw / plastic sandpaper / plastic chisel.

Used to get from midvalley like 10 years ago but not sure if that shop still alive.

Thanks
*
try Mr.DIY & Ace Hardware, Hobby shop items tend to be more expensive because they are designed for hobbies, sales are lower than normal hardware producers hence higher price.

for 2000 sandpaper you can get at Ace Hardware few ringgit only.

lol i found someone selling 3m 6200 respirator on lelong for RM40 but without catridges. Do you think its worth it? I mean i know its cheap but the catridges tak ada abit worried also lols. Cause i check the js hobby site overpriced like dunno what. One set of filters more expensive than the respirator itself. Anyone know any good places to get for reasonable prices?
*
1st, what filter you bought on ebay? you search 3M 7500 you can find many sellers from China selling Mask+x2 Prefilters 5N11 + x2 Prefilters retainers + x2 6001 Filters package price between rm75-rm110, i don't know which one real which one bootleg but i got around rm110 including postage. if you go bid can get even lower price.

FYI 7500 got 3 sizes, S,M,L. M normally for asians but might also be abit big depend your size.

i bought mine from houjiadi0596

bought extra 5N11 prefilters since cheap.

i tried to matte/flat coat a gunpla with mr hobby super clear flat, but it doesn't seem to cover up the nubmarks (it left with a cylinder-like whitish spot even after i sand it and polish it finely before flat coat is applied), only the sanding scar got covered up.  I wonder if i had did it wrongly if the flat coat are meant to hide the nubmarks entirely, usually happen on dark color like blue as the whitish spot will be very obvious
*
i did say you have to make until cannot feel the nub marks, if lazy sand just use hobby knife to "sand". the whitish spot is tricky, depends on how you do the initial cut, the sharper the cutter the better since that is plastic stretch mark, can still be minimized with hobby knife, if not just touch it up with a dip of paint.

top coat can only cover minor uneven surface and need thicker coats to do so. best is reduce the marks after cutting.

btw Mr.Hobby spray cans are super expensive. I try to look for alternatives. So far found only for Gloss can use Future Floor, Semi-Gloss can use Mr.DIY Clear, Matte most difficult to find, ACE hardware ones still cost rm40-50 but much bigger can. Airbrush with rm10 Mr.Hobby Flat Clear the cheapest right now.

so the only way to fix the white spot after we trim and sand the surface evenly is to touch up with paint?  but wont the color been unidentical and only closer to the runner's color?  I did see some sample of painted build which only paint according to runners color, no shading, weathering or anything, the gunpla appear exactly like straight build.  Something like the link below, however they didn't stat what's been painted and what's not

http://www.gunjap.net/site/?p=130449

Will test with my old unwanted gunpla with ur suggestion anyway, thanks for the tips!
*
you want straight built go Jusco see their display most are straight built with panel lining.

you can mix the color & touch up to match the runner, once you spray the top coat it will no be very noticeable. unless you are patching up chrome or metallic colors.
