Really love my Amouage Opus VI sample. It's next on my list!
It sure is one kind of amber scent. Still a bit regret for letting my bottle of it go.

To me there are a few that comes to mind.....Xerjoff Nio, Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche. The woody note is of cos unlike a true woody frag BUT it is there nevertheless which makes these frags super fresh and manly.

No problem. Glad to be of help.

@tazio One thing about me, I have little to no experience with high end perfumes. Really amazed at the stuff you guys are discussing about! I can't keep up at all.haha.

Yes kandang lembu is very accurate.i've even smelled one that smells like TAIK lembu, sorry for the crude language. Tastefully done barn aroma eventually grows on a lot of people. Looks like you've experienced the 'pull' ! smile.gif

I'm really curious now about the scents you guys are discussing. Oud or non oud aromas..perfumes always fascinate my senses. A lot of reading material for many hours to come it seems. Heh.

If you guys know of any high end oil based perfumes/attars by reputable perfume houses do let me know.

@wan81100 have you tried anything from ensaroud? Would like to know more about them.

I have tried one so far. One of his Chinese oils, I think it was Hainan 2005, even then it was a sample that Taha from Agar Aura owns.

The memories of it are quite vague, but it had an animalic, barnyard opening. Don't know if it makes sense, but the "barn" or "fecal" note, also has different types. The kinds that are present in his Hainan oil, and I assume some other oils, are of the refined, or "good" type. It surprises you at first, but it draws one to like it more and more, atleast for thsoe who can accept this type and are adventurous to explore. Most old school, classic, vintage oils of old have this kind of note. It's definitely different from the "barn" that many cheaper ,mass produced oils emanate.

A good explanation on how this "barn"/ "fecal" note appears in oud, is this blog post from Agar Aura :

http://blog.agaraura.com/?p=1094

In short, MOST barn notes in oud is a result of soaking the wood dust prior to distillation. In most cases, it is prolonged soaking. Plus, in cheap low quality oils, it is due to unhygienic, prolonged soaking.

According to a number of feedbacks from Ensar Oud customers, quite a lot of Ensar's oils have this barnyard note, which is a signature of old school classic ouds in the past. And as I mentioned before, the customers enjoy the barn notes in Ensar's oils.

Back to the Hainan, it also has a bitter, green, medicinal kind of note lingering within, which is a signature trait in chinese agarwood (aquilaria sinensis).

However, this is not to say that ALL of Ensar's oils are barn yard type. I've read of some which are breezy, ethereal, floral, etc.

In general, Ensar's oils are definitely among the best of what's available today IMO. Only thing is, his style, and Agar Aura's style, and Feel Oud's style, etc, are different in the general theme, but may overlap in some aspects.

In terms of purity and guarantee of quality, the three vendors above I can vouch for, since I've tried their oils, and made some comparisons. Not saying other oud suppliers are sketchy, but it's just that I haven't had extensive exposure to them and their oils , not enough to give my word about them.

Another vendor worth trying would be Imperial Oud, based in the UK.

You need something that smell light yet can cover sweat smell, use the classic Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio or its profumo version.

Chanel Allure Homme Sport ,Versace Man Eau Fraiche or versace pour homme are good choices also if you find Acqua Di Gio too many people use.

@dr_farnz My pleasure! I'm on an oudventure searching for like minded people interested in oud anyway. When you're mostly alone it's hard to get the motivation up.

You know, what do you guys think if I start up a new thread about Oud? It seems that the discussion is wide enough to possibly clash with this thread.

Any comments?

No need to start a new thread. We welcome everything perfume related discussions/sharing smile.gif

I'm one in the minority to dig the barnyard thingy. Although I didn't contribute much to the oud topic (since I have very little experience with the raw material), I enjoyed reading and learning from your guys.

My SOTD is a cheapie but a classic Escape by CK. Close to my heart as it was my very first perfume received as a Christmas gift from my parents.

I only found out about Miyako after reading Luca Turin reviews on his now defunct blog perfumesilove. He gave Miyako 5 star notworthy.gif .

Miyako extrait used to be only USD 75 you know. Should have bought that perfumes at that time (April 2016). blush.gif

As for Miyako,I like it.Takes several wearing to fully appreciate it since i'm not used to the notes(Osmanthus,Apricot,Leather) at that time and it's also

an oil based perfumes so I got a weird feeling first time I applied it since I was noob back then, only used to alcohol based perfumes laugh.gif

Ah, Osmanthus. I should have discovered it earlier. I recently tried Absolue d’Osmanthe Extrait by Perris Monte Carlo and really liked it. Thought of buying osmanthus based fragrance for my mom as her Christmas present this year but was in a rush. Didn't have time to order samples and pick so I ended up buying her a biggest bottle of Jour d'Hermes that she really loves but almost runs out, which I gifted her a couple of years ago as her Christmas present. As for my wife, not getting her any more perfume this year as she has quite a number of them (also gifted by me) that are still almost full. I got her DW classy watch instead. As for my 9mo boy (turning to 10mo in a few more days), I haven't decided what to buy for him. Still too young for bigger toys. December is really a month of spending. I also plan to grab that Roja Dove sample set from luckyscent.

Good for you man thumbup.gif.

Aside from Miyako, the other Osmanthus fragrance that I like is Hermessence Osmanthe Yunnan(got a small 15ml bottle). Not sure that I can

recommend it to you due to its subtle nature. On my skin the sillage is minimal, does not project much and I got 4-5 hours longevity tops.

It's smells great though,a very good warm weather scent imo. Maybe your can buy it for your mother as a CNY present perhaps?

As for me I'm loving it.Definitely will wear it on CNY(I'm not a Chinese btw) biggrin.gif

I've read about Hermessence Osmanthe Yunnan but Jean-Claude Ellena has light hands. Well, maybe too light for my liking smile.gif

We only give ang pows and hampers during CNY smile.gif

BTW, which part of me suggests that I'm a Chinese?
