Nice shot bro... Great SOTD take on Dior Homme...

Thanks! I took the inspiration from you biggrin.gif

Side track a bit. I see you guys are talking about watches wish list but mine is just simple. I only have 3 watches for different occasions. Casual (the one in the picture), formal and outdoor/diving (though I don't scuba dive nowadays). Having said that, as a tech geek, I'm interested in Moto 360 but I think it wouldn't be practical if I have to worry about the battery life all the time.

Lolz... Bro should stick to your previous shooting style. It has your own style.. Remember how bro shoot your CK Escape,Tauer Cdm & Breath of God.
Yet my picture shooting just tofu class. Point & shoot.  Bro camera skill are far way better than me..  rclxms.gif
Bro as a tech geek,Can consider getting Samsung Gear 2 or Apple Watch to go with your hp. Easily to pair and sync the important date, data or other nice function  nod.gif

Haha, not in the mood of shooting anything like that now.

Thanks for the smart watch suggestions. I prefer the more traditional rounded watch, which I believe only Motorola has it in the market right now. I think we should stop now before this thread turns into rojak.

With 2016 is just less than 12 hours away from now, it's time to sit down and ponder what we have achieved this year, fragrance-wise of course. Looking at myself back in 2011 when I first started my fragrance journey, I was very much an aquatic person. That year has seen me purchasing Cool Water Summer Dive by Davidoff, Acqua Di Gio by Giorgio Armani, L'Eau D'Issey by Issey Miyake, etc.

In 2012, it continued the trend of aquatics and with introduction of some heavier fragrances like Black by Mandarina Duck, Platinum Egoiste by Chanel, Le Male by JPG, etc. but one fragrance forever changed the way I looked at fragrances and paved the path of what my taste is today and that is Prada Amber Pour Homme. It was nothing I had smelt before and quite unique even to this day. I fell head over heels for it and even bought the shower gel to complement the wearing. It had become my favorite that year.

2013 had been a year of heavy fragrances for me with purchases of Narciso Rodriguez For Him Musc Collection, Encre Noire by Lalique, A*Men, LIDGE, etc. During that year, one fragrance got me into amber and that is Ambre Sultan by Serge Lutens. Purchase of amber fragrances continued with Opus VI by Amouage and 24 Gold by ScentStory. Ambre Sultan had become my favorite that year and still is my holy grail of amber even though I have tried all the amber fragrances I could get my hands on.

In 2014, it expanded beyond amber and into other resins particularly incense, frankincense, myrrh and oppononax. I guess some of you may know that 2014 had been a Tauer year for me together with Churchy incense. That same year also marked the beginning of animalic year that was to come with purchases of Labdanum 18 by Le Labo and Musc Ravageur by Frederic Malle.

Finally, 2015. My taste has grown to a whole new level this year with even more animalic fragrance purchases plus some classics and vintages. I foresee my interest for this genre will continue on to the new year and years to come. That said, what better way to wrap up my 2015 than to wear my most favorite animalic fragrance in my collection - Musc Tonkin by PdE. I have not smelt the real deer musk but some say this is close to the real thing. Happy new year to all my fellow fragheads.

I went to smell a few fragrances from Jovoy and Xerjoff yesterday. Hopefully I can get my hand on Mamluk. There were no one at the counter to entertain me yesterday.

SOTD: Oud Jaune Intense by Fragrance Du Bois (sample).
I love incense, myrrh, and frankincense. Amouage is my favorite house, and easily accessible (KLCC). I'd love to check out Nishane, and Tauer as you mentioned. But I hate (blind) buying online. I'm also looking to check-out Arabian Oud.
*
Looking forward to your next haul. Amouage is king when it comes to incense. Tried most of their mainstream line and library collection, my favorite are Jubilation, Interlude, Gold and Opus VI. Most people I know of tend to shy away from those resins rich scents.

Tauer has discovery set you can choose and buy. Ships to Malaysia.

a good adventure one....hihihi...

maybe next time will write one....
but 1 thing I can say that my journey is still evolving
all due to all of you guys....

Thanks a lot wink.gif

No worries bro. No need to stress yourself. Just relax and enjoy this long weekends.

My scent on the first day of 2016 is the little brother of Musc Ravageur - Labdanum 18. Le Labo is notorious for its inappropriate naming, which often doesn't smell as the name suggests. That's because, the name is taken based on ingredient with highest concentration used. The number denotes number of notes. Happy 2016 everyone and have a fragrant year ahead!

Started 2016 with these two new addition. Although this is not my first adg bottle. Bought them at a decent price from a fellow forumer. Really want to try something different as currently only having these kind of fresh/sporty kind of fragrances including DHS, MB Individuel, Legend Intense, Davidoff Cool Water. I guess DHI is the only different perfume that I have. And decants such as PAPH, LIDGE, Encre Noir, Play Intense. Didnt like LIDGE or Play Intense at first, but after few times wearing, growing to like it and now I miss the smell after finished the decant. Interested to try Oud or something strong like Amouge(which I never smell) , but not sure where to start. Would be great if you guys have recommendations.
*
Hey bro! Long time no see. I hope the DHI is still serving you well. IMHO, you can't say you've tried Amouage until you tried Jubilation 25. It's the essence of Amouage. A complex scent with a little bit of everything. Fruity, floral, resins and oud but projection is moderate. If you like strong fragrances then you should try Interlude. Few spritz fill a room. That said, every other one is worth checking out too. Just head down to KLCC Isetan Amouage counter and have a sniff feast. I'm sure you'll find the one that suits your taste.

Hi Tonney bro, how are you? I still have 50% left for DHI, thanks to you, its the only perfume that I have that is not citrusy. Will have a look at Amouge Isetan. After reading your experience with fragrance in the previous page, I feel like my perfume journey is starting to be like you. Start with that famous aquatic perfume, then try something heavier like EN & LIDGE, then something different and until now the perfume that you post nowadays, I never even heard about them. Every time I read your post, I need to google the perfume. I hope my taste wont change like you, because I don't have much to spend like you do. LOL. But at the same time, I have this feeling if I cant afford to buy it, at least just the joy to sniff it would be great.

Btw, would you recommend me straight to Amouge? Any other things that I should try first? How does this oud note smell?
*
Thanks for the compliment bro Edward. I'm flattered. Really, what I know is still very limited. I think Amouage is a good brand to start dipping your toe into the niche water if you are bored with the usual offerings from the designer world and want to try something different since it's easily accessible (for which you can sample) and better (in terms of composition and juice quality) than most mainstream designers. Of course, not all mainstream designers are of inferior quality. There are also high-end/classic/vintage designers too.

My knowledge and experience on oud is limited but from what I read, most commercially available oud is synthetic because real oud is very expensive to use in perfumery and the smell is not pleasing to the general public. Synthetic oud is woody and leathery. You can try Versace Oud Noir and some Arabian Oud to begin with. MFK has some oud scents you can try too. There are many types of real oud and I have only smelled Cambodian oud, which they say is the most pleasing. I find it to be nice smelling too. Balmy and leathery. Indian oud is very fecal they say but I have not smelled it. If you really like the real oud, you can check out the house of Fragrance Du Bois. Maybe Underhill can chip in more since he has the fragrance from the house.

The Sun is finally out and also feeling a little English today so decided to put on Racquets Formula by Penhaligon's (discontinued). I think it's more like an English barbershop scent than a sport scent (probably tennis). Although it's an EdC, it wears like an EdT. Drive safe everyone and have a lovely Saturday.

Wearing Eau Sauvage Parfum by Dior on this happy blue Monday. Smokey vetiver and balmy myrrh with a short-lived bright bergamot top. Niche quality here. Another heavy hitter.

If anyone interested, Penhaligon at KLCC is having some sort of promotion. I saw a miniature set of five (top sellers), selling for RM260 something. I went there to sample Blenheim Bouquet.

L'artisan Parfumeur section looks like they've sized down to a limited selections.

Thanks for the heads up bro.

Winston Churchill rocked Blenheim Bouquet.

Do you love it? It smells like lemon-grass, with some hints of lemon. After 30 minutes, it becomes a skin-scent.

It's difficult to find Amouage testers right now, I guess I have to take a plunge and buy at a full retail price.
*
I tried it. A nice citrusy scent but fleeting unless for someone who doesn't mind re-applying.

Which Amouage are you gonna blind buy?

I would go for Jubilation. Which one do you prefer more?

Oh, you meant to get Amouage tester. Yeah, what a pity. Ethusis, the lyn seller I used to buy my Amouage testers told me his supplier no longer carries it.

It's quite generic smelling for my taste but it's very popular among fresh/aquatic lovers.

Very interesting bro. I have been using Acqua Di Gio by Giorgio Armani for as long as I can remember lol. Mainly because I can't find any other fragrance that can catch my attention. Or maybe I am not discovering enough haha.

After reading this thread, I hope to explore more.

May I know those fragrances that you mentioned like Encre Noire, LIDGE, Amouage, are easily to be bought in any fragrances shop in airport? Because I am living in a small town so the only way to buy them is at the airport. Also may I know the price range? Are they very expensive compared to Acqua Di Gio? Sorry for my noobness.

Any feedback from all the sifus here are welcomed. Thanks!
*
Thanks! There is a small Amouage section at KLIA. Did not notice any Amouage at KLIA2. From what I heard, LIDGE is always out of stock at major department stores in KL. Encre Noire, I think Sasa carries it. If you are comfortable with buying online, you have more options. Bro Marver is selling online and also has a brick and mortar store. http://my.bestbuy-world.com/ and http://myen.strawberrynet.com/main.aspx?langBox=myen have major designer brands you can choose too. You're looking at a range of RM250-350 for most men's designers. Women EdPs like Chanel are pricier. Online price is cheaper except for Chanel.

SOTD - Ambra by Santa Maria Novella (EdC)
Little brother of Tauer's Lonestar Memories. It opens up with eucalyptus-like herbaceous accord with birch tar in the background. The birch tar starts to come forward after 10 mins and slowly dominates the scent as time passes. Amber only reveals itself towards the dry down. Despite what the name says, it is a birch tar dominated scent. You have to love birch tar to love Ambra. Projection is moderate (opening is loud though), which is pretty good for an EdC. Longevity is moderate on my skin. It does have an old world feel to it. The formula was composed and debuted in 1828 after all. This brand is nearly impossible to find online. I was lucky to acquire one pre-loved bottle from ebay. it showed up at just the right time. I tried to locate the store when I was at Siam Paragon in Bangkok but with no luck so the closest is at IFC Mall in Hong Kong and it was around RM550 +/- (after conversion) for a 100ml EdC (all their bottles are splash EdC). The brand is one of the oldest pharmacies that is still in business today founded in 1221 and also created the world's first cologne in 1533 - Acqua di Colonia (aka Acqua della Regina).

Any good and affordable recommendations fellow fragheads ?
Been wondering why some women can have their fragance on for so long, found the phrase i've been looking for .. skin-scent yup  thumbup.gif

Try 4711. It's very affordable. It smells similar to much more expensive Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford.

I've seen it in Singapore but didn't notice any in KL.

SOTD - Ambre Sultan by Serge Lutens
Right off the bat, I get a blast of herbal bay leaf and oregano with a sweet resinous labdanum/amber. After a few minutes, it mellows into smooth amber and benzoin/vanilla with the herbs/spices still linger in the background and stays pretty much the same until dry down. At this stage it smells almost identical to Amber Absolute by Tom Ford. Opening is loud but it calms down pretty quickly and moves closer to the skin but still radiates few inches above the skin. It still is my Sultan of amber even though I've tried all the amber fragrances I could get my nose on. The kitchen spice opening actually gives it an edge and makes it unique in my book.

I went to try RM160 Afnan Supremacy Silver. To my surprise, it's very very very similar to Creed Aventus, complete with the birch burned tar smells. Only that it's slightly less potent, but very very similar.

SOTD: Dehn al Oudh Abiyad. This smells like Gucci Oud

Not a house I'm familiar with. Is it sold at KLIA?

SOTD - APlS by MFK
It opens up with very nice resinous labdanum but sharp sour urine accord (probably from honey+caraway) joins in seconds later and stays pretty much the same until dry down. It's an unusual take on amber I would say. The honey+caraway combo actually gives it an edge. It has above average projection and good longevity on my skin. If animalic amber is your thing, definitely give this a try. I love it!

Ah, Calvin Klein. It once ruled the land of perfume in the early 90's. I still wear my Escape once in a while. It was my first and signature scent in the 90's. Too bad that Coty ruined everything it got its hands on.
