Russia to use Chinese engines for Grachonok anti-terror boats

Russia has decided to introduce diesel engines from China for its Type 21980 Grachonok anti-terror boats after the Motor and Turbine Union based in Germany declared that it will no longer provide engines, according to Military Parade, a website covering global defense news based in Moscow.

China signed a contract with Russia last week for engines for the two Type 21980 Grachonok anti-terror boats with the serial numbers 01221 and 01222. Both vessels are currently being build by Vympel Shipyard. The vessels will be equipped with TBD620V12 main engines produced in China.

In addition, China has promised to supply two decelerators and two couplings for the vessels.

The Russian Navy placed an order for six Grachonok anti-terror boats from Vympel Shipyard in January 2014. Two shipyards located at Zelenodolsk are also responsible for the construction of the Type 21980 boats. It is unclear whether all the boats will use Chinese engines.

400 meter is below several layers of thermocline. Most submarine don't have to worry much about the active sonar as the submarine can usually hear the active sonar at far greater distance than the sonar can detect the submarine. The one they need to worry about is passive sonar, especially a ship with "tail". Depth is important if the sub want to move fast. The high water pressure will reduce the chance of cavitation.

I think more scorpene should be better,

The Scorpène® 2000 like our current is for deeper water and longer patrol range(better with AIP)
The Scorpène® 1000, compact version of the 2000 for more coastal defence. (Since it cheaper and smaller, can get more of this, iinm for one smx ocean you can get 2 or 3 of this, i could be wrong)

A pack of 3 compact Scorpène® 1000 can form a wolfpack from sepanggar base and imagine spamming blackshark torpedo brows.gif brows.gif
Also, from cut out, look like it have 6 torpedo launch tube and all the torpedo/antiship missile are stored inside the tube ready for launch rather than loaded inside the tube prior to launch

LTZ, DCNS tak offer scorpene 1000, given its size smaller than current one, should not be a problem for maintenance platform and crew training (using subtics as well and have almost all the system the current scorpene have)

iinm, DCNS pun ada display at lima 2015 at their both subs

Pakistani Navy to Purchase Eight New Submarines From China

user posted image

Pakistani Navy officials said the National Security Committee has given the final go ahead for plans to purchase eight submarines from China. Pakistan has been negotiating the submarine purchase with China since 2011, with initial plans to purchase six, and subsequently raising the number to eight. The plan is viewed as a means to address the country’s force imbalance with India.

The Russian-Pakistani military cooperation is not directed against any third country, the ambassador of Pakistan to Russia Zaheer Janjua told Sputnik commenting on a military cooperation agreement that the two countries signed during the Russian defense minister's visit to Islamabad last month

"The National Security Committee has approved, in principle, the acquisition of eight Chinese submarines," Additional Secretary of the ministry Rear Admiral Mukhtar Khan said to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense. He added that the Secretary of the Economics Affairs Division Muhammad Saleem Sethi is expected to discuss the issue further when he travels to China on Wednesday.

Officials have said that other proposals are being considered, noting that the "Pakistan Navy is also in touch with Germany, Britain and France to purchase used submarines."

Negotiations with Germany have been stymied in the past over cost disagreements and opposition in the European country to the sale of submarines to Pakistan in 2004. Pakistan has also held negotiations with France in the past for acquiring their Scorpène-class submarines. According to Naval officials, France had refused to pursue the sales for several reasons, among them the fact that it was already selling the same submarines to India.

The United States and Pakistan will conduct a range of joint military exercises starting in autumn 2015, according to a US Central Command press release

The type of submarines and the cost has not yet been revealed yet, although an officials speaking IHS Jane said "in the recent past, there have been reports of discussions for the Type 041 submarines." In terms of the cost, retired Lieutenant General Talat Masood estimated a price of less $5 million per submarine.

Given the close defense collaboration between China and Pakistan, Masood explained that Beijing is likely to extend a long-term loan at a low interest rate to cover the cost of the submarines.

Take a look at the North Korean military's deadly array of weaponry

North Korea’s military equipment looks more like it belongs to a 1970s Soviet army than a modern force — but the country’s massive forces could still be a deadly force.

The country’s missile development and huge stocks of artillery are particularly threatening to South Korea and the rest of the world.

The US Pentagon’s most recent report on the state of the North Korean military sizes up the ground forces, navy, and air force.

It’s one of the world’s most secretive countries, so the information largely comes from other sources. But the state’s propaganda efforts mean there are plenty of pictures of the country’s colossal military capacity.

So they have the number, but does the number reflects it's true capability?

I know some weaponry might be dated, but even so, it could still be functional. Like our nuri!hahaha

US Army Eyes Ukraine Conflict for Intel on Russian Military Technology

user posted image

QUOTE
The Moscow-backed rebels are waging a hybrid war that includes the use of soft power such as disinformation and cyberattacks to hard power such as truck-mounted Grad rocket launchers, according to Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, commander of U.S. Army Europe.

QUOTE
U.S. Army leaders have found that American-supplied counter-mortar radar systems are helping Ukrainian forces detect incoming motor fire by calculating the point of origin of the enemy round, Hodges said. Washington reportedly supplied Kiev with 20 of the systems as part of an aid package valued at $118 million.

QUOTE
On the other hand, the conflict has exposed the potential for Russian electronic warfare technology to pierce U.S. and allied battlefield communications networks, Hodges and other U.S. generals said.

Rostec, a Russian-owned arms and technology company, last year claimed it used “complex radio-electronic” frequencies to hack into an MQ-5B Hunter drone that was flying over Crimea and belonged to the Army’s 66th military intelligence brigade based in Germany.

QUOTE
“In the short term, what we need to do is harden our systems and make sure that they can degrade gracefully — we can’t have single points of failure,” McMaster said. “We need really what are … deterministic networks — networks that can route communications even if certain nodes are disrupted. … We also need a degree of redundancy.”

Eventually, those technologies will need to be shared with NATO partners, Hodges said.

South Korean alone may be able to resist North Korea alone....like K2 tanks will massacre any tank North Korea has....

But Seoul is located too close to the border, so it is a complete possibility for it to be razed by artillery and missile launches. It is actually possible for NoKor to capture the northern suburbs of the capital, or perhaps capture the capital entirely before finally pushed back.

Still a huge financial loss for South Korea, even if they could repel the invasion.

These are all the countries where the US has a military presence

The Pentagon says that it has just 64 “active major installations” overseas and that most of its base sites are “small installations or locations.” But it defines “small” as having a reported value of up to $915 million. In other words, small can be not so small.
