Normal ERA also will have this explosive effect on surrounding infantry, so whatever system in use it doesn't look so good for infantry. laugh.gif

And if i disable the radar array the active protection will be as good as useless?

The correct term is track 10 and engage 4

Zhuk-M (Export Designation Zhuk-ME)

user posted image

The N010M Zhuk-M is an advanced variant of the original N010 Zhuk radar introducing advanced air-to-surface functions like mapping and terrain following. The radar forms part of the MiG-29SMT upgrade, the Zhuk-ME finding success on export MiG-29 aircraft to countries like India. The radar features improved signal processing and has a detection range of up to 120 km vs a 5 m2 RCS target for the export variant, and up to 10 targets tracked and up to 4 attacked at once in air-to-air mode.[5] The tracking range is 0.83 - 0.85 of the detection range. In air-to-surface mode the radar can detect a tank from up to 25 km away and a bridge from 120 km away, a naval destroyer could be detected up to 300 km away and up to two surface targets can be tracked at once. The radar has a weight of 220 kg and a scanning area of +/- 85 degrees in azimuth and +56/-40 degrees in elevation. The antenna is an electronically scanned slotted planar array and has a diameter of 624 mm.

Isnt this radar got compromised cos of the mole exposed the whole plan to the west?

After fly in and out of langkawi for the last day. I conclude that the whole thing is more enjoyable if you go on trade days.

I had this thinking before but feel dumb not to go fir trade passes.... The whole place cant support large public crowd with that puny entrance to static display...

Being said last day cant really get freebies as many exhibitors had left. But the guys at dassault still managed to give me whole set of info kit about dassault and rafale when I impressed them with what I know about their stuff..

I still wish they give me the red dassult lanyard sad.gif only manage to get hold Saab rocket lanyard laugh.gif

well RMAF try hard to get budget, than got RM 9b ..... dont think willing give to other force.  biggrin.gif
buy AWACS around usd 1B , maybe 2nd phase EC725 other usd 500 mil. also Airforce new radar.
maybe can MPA maybe under Navy if with ASW module.
*
QUOTE(cunnilinguist @ Mar 22 2015, 01:47 AM)
We still need the MiGs to be upgraded because the period between contract signing and actual delivery of the aircraft would take up to five, six years and the subsequent integration and familiarization would take another year or two. The MiGs upgrade programme, on the other hand, could be done in less than 2 years and we already has extensive ground support and munitions for them.

Even when we already got the new aircraft, these MiGs could be relegated into secondary role, ensuring the status quo in term of quantity, unless we somehow bought around 40 new aircraft
*
QUOTE(thpace @ Mar 22 2015, 01:53 AM)
what i think our armed forces should do is

For MPA, get a good long range like P8 or Airbus A320 MPA and put as join procument between the airforce and navy.

share both purchasing and human resources where the air force will fly the plane while the navy will run the system

For AWECS, Get the air force to fly the plane while GAPU run the system. Or for SAM, air force handle the radars (using sam radars, save purchasing a new radar system) and GAPU operate the actual missiles

Yes, this would require a new operating standard and Manuel but i would say it a win-win situation. Each side get what they want although not fully theirs
*
Dassult Super Etendard was in operation for many years with multiple upgrade and still able to function well,be replaced with Rafale next year.

I'd say upgrade the migs while waiting for new jets.... Its not like you "buy now get tomorrow" for the new craft.

would depend how much modifications you need to be done

the MKM was delivered after 5 years because there prototype made to test the entire system from diff vendors.. It take take time to sort out all the "rojak" system together

if u purchase outright like the original MIG29, you will get much faster
*
I suppose if they take Rafale things would be faster? Since most of the avionics are French and perhaps it was similar to the one used in our Sukhoi's? IINM some of the stuff are south african as well?

Dassult was really desperate for Malaysia business, they really throwing everything in this year Lima. shocking.gif

system used in rafale and mkm is not the same, both diff plane and avionic or flight control in our mkm is russian

they are despo because the indian deal is still uncertain, if india deal successfully for 126 unit

they will start "take it or leave it" to malaysia..
*
Aik, i thought the indian deal was solved? The Indian still wanted Dassault to hold responsibility about the HAL Rafale?

If they wanna have plane around Mig size i suppose gripen size would suit it well. I did not expect Gripen size to be that "small" when compared to Rafale. Was expecting to be bigger yo

Is like you wan Myvi size car but somewhat the manufacturer wanted you to get S class size class instead. laugh.gif

MKM is MRCA, but right now we are searching for MMRCA
plus MKM have a major role as an Air Superiority Fighter

that's why after the Malaysian MMRCA (MMMRCA/3MRCA lel), there is a possibility of procurement of the second batch of MKM
dekat dah tu, bukan MRCA tapi MMRCA
baru betul Medium Multirole
eh, tarak rayban ka?
*
What rayban? The glasses? I got the orange hat but I placed it elsewhere when i took the photo.

U went to Lima exhibition

It was basically a military porn fest? Each company showing off its weapons like its toys or computer game

Yes and no, they usually start to leave once the trade days are over. They dont really let the public handle stuff like simulator or guns, unless u are govt officials or you showed them you are one giant walking dictionary notworthy.gif then is a yes. So those smaller booth operators will leave by then. Best is to join as trade visitor thumbup.gif

Some was telling at least half are with them. The reason why was because sg used to use the execuse of being surrounded by muslim countries especially under mahathir time and indonesia tense relationship

Wonder if it applies to Australians as well? They are as close to US as SG was. This reminds me of Argentinians trying to get hold of Exocet during the Falklands war through whatever way they can do. Too bad they used up their exocet stockpile and the rest is history

The guy with red font remind myself i trying to argue with a friend of mind who only think of politics when come to Armed forces.... Never ending argument, is like dog chasing its own tail laugh.gif
