Hi,need to ask how to install windows again on a new ssd.I want to do a clean install.I'm on a laptop that came with windows 8.Will I just need to replace my hdd and then put ssd and install windows? What I'm confused is if I can still reinstall the oem w8 that came with my laptop into my new ssd.I heard it is tied to the motherboard.
are you installing from pendrive or old school DVDs?
just remove old HDD, plug in SSD, run the laptop, select boot device as pendrive/DVD, then its pretty much straightforward already
as for the windows to motherboard, youre still using the same motherboard, i dont see an issue unless youre reusing old key for new PC
So I need to download a copy of w8 and put it on a pendrive?and when installing it will automatically detect the cd key?
yes you need to if youre opting for fresh installation. and not just copy and paste into the pendrive, youll need to 'prep' the pendrive first. use the Windows 7 USB Tool (works with W8)
CD key wise, no. youll need your own set to input before installing
Sorry off topic as well, but damn man even Windows themselves said the TP Link drivers and configuration tools are incompatible. Problem started after a recent Windows update where everything went to shits. Sigh. Using powerline now, I get slower speeds but I get back my very badly missed stability. Will upgrade the power lines and internet cables to better ones. Will sell of my d link router and tp link dongle.
As for samsung, I do hope they come out with a further patch to solve my random write speed drops. Sometimes I only get 30K IOPS which is half of what was advertised.
cucuk LAN cable only, wifi is unreliable due to high latency
> me > using wireless, shit speed 1/2 of what was advertised > change to homeplugs > speed actually reach its top advertised speed
I think it was first day kinda thing. Now my speed has doubled back after testing. Haha. Still slower than my 5Ghz Dual Band wifi speed though. But good enough. Finally got the stability I missed for months. Easily wrecking people in BF4 like heck for the last two days with 3-4KD.
i think its just that day youre getting trolled by ISPs. my first few days with Maxis wasnt great at all, enough to pull hair off
but over the days, seems like all went okay. as long as its stable and delivers, im good
back in the days, i rmb TM streamyx trolled the fuk out of me. 1 1/2 week of no internet
currently iam using Intel 520 120g ssd, want to upgrade to a bigger capacity, like 500gb. So what is your opinion between Samsung 850 evo & 850 pro ? Speed wise, evo almost par with pro but pro is much more expensive! How about the reliability issue? Since evo is using TLC which infamous for its speed drops bug.
need some recommendation for ssd, I am eyeing on 256gb one saw a lot people recommend lite on s900 256gb, but my friend told me go for samsung evo, is much better but the price difference around RM 100+
does both of them performance different a lot ? I plan to use my ssd just to install windows (off course), and frequent used software (browser, download manager, spotify, steam, etc ...)
for the above softwares, no difference at all
you only see the gains of high end SSD only on work related matters where every MB/s and IOPS count
otherwise, even the cheapest SSD is miles faster than a HDD
No idea still can't decide whether go for liteon for best bang budget or go for better performance lol But I don't get the 3d nand, is for what ? Faster ? Stable ? Battery saving ?
As i mentioned previously, even the low perf SSD is faster than a HDD. So if youre jumping from HDD to SSD, the benefit will def be gained irregardless of which SSD.
Benefit of 3D NAND mostly is lifespan and endurance afaik, Samsung dont throw 10 years warranty for no reason
sweet yeah if you looked at most hhhl versions of m.2 pcie ssds, usually they are covered with heat sinks; there is a thermal pad between the m.2 ssd and the adapter in kingston hyperx predator also.
for common usage, many said it's ok to run in bare m.2 form. however, i just don't wanna risk it.
there was a testing where they tested does M.2 or PCIe based SSD require any heatsink
apparently the end result goes as 1. everyday day to day read writes with transfers here and there, no throttling 2. high end synthetic benchmarking and workloads, ssd got throttled
that's just large file transfers. i do that frequently. i don't call a file transfer a synthetic benchmark, or a heavy workload?
edit: for reference, here are the links to samsung xp941 and sm951 also.
in xp941's article, you will see that with heat sink, the max temperature is about 50c+ it's much better than over 100c, placed very near to our mobos and components near-by.

on a random note, when i game, my SSD goes 52C. not sure should be concerned...
it's always better to have some buffers. however just don't go too far. it's really a waste of money. better save some so that you can grab new ones (with new techs) when they're available. i think transcend ssd370s is ok for you. it's MYR 350 at c-zone.
im at the same ship at the guy atm, im thinking of a new SSD to add on as games or whatever stuff that utilises the extra speed
been there. in most cases (for personal computing), imo one sensible way to determine which capacity to go for in future is to check current use as reference. tbh most of us just need it to speed up boot time and most frequently used apps/games load times.
yeah price drop is slower than many thought. (on the brighter side, that's similar amount that i paid for much smaller ssds years ago haha)
my SSD back then was RM369, now i could got for a 240GB at that price
pretty fast price drop ill say, though not as fast
How do u guys think about new released Intel 600P SSD?
if the price is right, its a good for me
one question as im using a mITX board, if i were thinking to add in NVMe based SSD on it, its pretty much impossible as i do not have the required PCIe slot right (average mITX has 1 16x PCIe 3.0 and 4x PCIe slot only afaik)? or is there adapters to account for it?
You can use the adapter like in the image below I'm using the same adapter on my Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming G1 WIFI-BK with the Samsung 950 Pro You can use it in the PCI-E x16 slot. Works perfectly Bought it from eBay for RM24 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/111980528613
Well thats the issue, as im on a mITX mobi, so there is only space for one slot
