hi, im looking at a good 500gb ssd and im currently eyeing on Crucial MX100 512GB & BX500GB since they are around the same price. which 1 is better? or MX200 500GB much worth the extra bucks?
*
crucial mx200 might be a better choice. it replace their mainstream mx100 (bx100 is entry-level or value), and it's 160tbw within 3 years of warranty for 500gb, instead of 72tb tbw endurance for mx100 and bx100, within warranty period.

hi thanks for the suggestion. if i understand correctly, 72tb is about 40gb/day for 5 years right..but how do i know how much data i write to the ssd per day? im gonna use this ssd for windows & games. or do you have any other recomendation for around 700+?
*
right. that tbw thing is just to give a clearer picture about how long nand chip in ssd can last, within the scope of the client workloads (i.e. common usage, meaning more reads, less writes), and how confident manufacturers offer their guarantee within warranty period. in reality, endurance test results published online showed that users should not be worried about this part. with that said, the lifespan of ssd depends largely to usage patterns. if you stick to your usage (os, apps, games), i think it can last for more than 5 years. (for downloads, storage, etc, use hdd)

i'm not sure about pricing sorry. why not you check out price lists first? you should scout garage sales here also.

Nobody uses Sandisk Extreme  or Extreme 2 SSD?

Serve me so far so good... I tend to stick to Sandisk product ever since I bought their Contour flash drive back in way many years ago.

The other SSD I used is Intel, just purely for stability and pricing at that time.
*
newer sandisk extreme series is not bad technically. however in retail market, they have serious competitions, like pricing. furthermore, like you, there are also personal preferences involved in most cases. me included. i use a number of different brands, but i always source the same brands that i use before for home and for work.

I might give SanDisk a try since their review is quite good.
*
yeah their extreme series sound good to me too. iinm their extreme pro uses the same controller as plextor m5pro extreme. it's too bad plextor didn't offer a 10-year warranty.

In fact, they scored very well.
*
just take reviews with a grain of salt. scores alone mean nothing (most sata ssds are relatively the same for common usage). now i remember why i didn't choose sandisk. to many this is not important but i do check rates of return from hardware.fr also, http://www.hardware.fr/articles/934-7/ssd.html (again, take it with a grain of salt).

Well I do agree, I am not really into benchmarks but I do find them nice to read around. For normal usage, it hardly affects anything, anything from HDD to SSD is a great improvement (other than faulty SSD).

Thank you for sharing your insight. I am glad that both my Sandisk Extreme SSD is serving me well.
*
yes, reviews are really nice to read. they serve their purpose well. the main problem to me is that they always leave something out, making the picture incomplete, due to the nature of tech reviews. you need a bit of work to construct everything to be more meaningful. (subject to what you wanna know of course hehe)

sandisk is one of the few brands that contribute to the evolution of ssd techs (they are in joint development with toshiba for new tlc). it's just that they need to find ways to make their products more competitive. a reason why sandisk is not popular might be due to a previous case: few years ago, there was a hiccup caused by sandforce controller issue. they couldn't deliver fix timely (unlike kingston did to its hyperx that used the same controller) with time, fix was released (several months later than kingston), but damage has been done. (at that time ssds were expensive. you can imagine the users' impression about sandisk)

Well then, guess I am lucky to have escaped that? *touch wood*
*
hehe from my observations, well, it's not really a big deal for owners of retail units. because of competitiveness, common brands will issue fixes asap, before their reputations gets affected. to understand how bad it could be if the reputation got stained, just look at ocz. even though it's taken over by toshiba, and their newer products are decent, not many are going for them. it's that bad, and i don't think serious business with the right mind will wanna risk that.

horns just wanted to ask , some mention on 4k align , but default windows 7 is 1k.Any different on both of them ?
*
4k alignment is just a term. any number that can be divided by 8 and get a round number is fine for this 4k alignment. 1k is 1024. 1024 / 8 = 128 (round number)

just wanna ask what ssd is worth getting for SATA2 ?
since its for my another mac that runs on SATA2
*
it's easier to just grab sata3 drives. sata3 drives are usually sata2 backward compatible.

no problem. even if it's a sata2, the large amount of iops will still improve system performance significantly.

Guy,I'm looking for a 120GB SSD within the budget of RM200. Saw some Kingston v300 on the cheap at Lazada.

My concern would be reliability in terms of not breaking down. Don't mind the minimal speed difference since I'm coming from Normal Sata HDD. So looking to use this 120gb SSD on my laptop storing Windows 7 and Programs. Media would be on External HDD.

Hope you guys could suggest me suitable brand within the price range.
*
value/mainstream ssds at 120gb range should be a bit higher than MYR 200. have you checked out the garage sales section and price lists from major shops in lyp? try compare them and see if you have any options instead of kingston v300.

Hi guys, I am deciding between the Kingston HyperX Savage and also Samsung 850 Evo. Which one is better?
*
samsung 850 evo. it has longer warranty period (5 years).

I surveyed the price at Lazada. Are these Kingston SSDs any reliable?
*
kingston v300 should be ok for common usage. however i just wonder if there are other choices for you.

QUOTE(DeepMemory @ Sep 23 2015, 11:44 PM)
Try going for the HyperX Fury one since it is the latest model from Kingston.  hmm.gif
*
oh if the price of kingston fury is close to v300's price, it might be an option.

oh. i just know usually rma takes 1.5 months.

i think we rarely have rma reports on all brands for quite some times now. please keep us updated.

the 900S
*
i think it's liteon s900, however the difference should be very insignificant. liteon s900 is technically a mainstream drive like sandisk ultra plus. they should have similar performance in terms of benchmarks, except for that ultra plus is older.

kingston v300 is value drive.

i think they will follow the latest warranty terms. check this, http://www.samsung.com/global/business/sem...ifications.html

like intel, previously they bumped the warranty period of 320 series also. before that it's 3 years.

this sucks :/ hopefully it will get improved with time. (it's like a common practice here that rma will take longer time. maybe it's because of the reduced stock level after one year)
