Some travel agency purchase the insurance under a group policy hence no need to collect individual stamp duty. They absorb the rm10.00 per policy (each trip which can consist of 10s of travellers) since the commission is more then enuf to cover

I plan to purchase travel insurance for my trips.
Below are the details :

Travel period : < 7 days
Travel Countries : within ASEAN
Insurance Type : Single Trip [i.e. not annual]
Mode of Travel : Airplane, and by car

What to Insure : Basically all-travel-related, but NOT life/hospitalisation

^ Why not? - I have insurance to cater for Life/hospitalisation [worldwide], and wouldn't want to pay more premium for something that I already have

Any suggestions on the best insurance coverage ?

Thanks in advance!

When there is a delay from the scheduled departure time, what is the normal procedure to claim from our travel insurance? what documents/evidence that need to be provided?

How long is the delay? According the normal terms, if it's less than 6 hours, it cannot be claimed. That's what I got when I flew 2 weeks ago. My flight was eventually cancelled and I was given a new flight instead by the company. For my issue, I had a valid claim as I was given a diff flight from what I had on my initial flight.

just a hypothetical question, just in case. yes, let's say it is delayed more than 6 hours, how do we prove it to the insurance company?

Ask the airlines to print you a piece of paper regarding the new scheduled time. It'll be better if you can get the verification straight from the airport staffs. Just let them know that you want to claim travel insurance, they'd know what to do.

I read through the posts here and there are suggestions on using certain insurers like AXA, Maybank Etiqa etc. My question is : both MAS and AirAsia do provide options to include travel insurance. If I purchase these insurances provided by airlines, is it good enough? If it is good enough, why go through the hassle of getting separate insurance?

As long as its within the same zone + its still within the day limits, its can be used. Still, you need to double confirm with your agent though. I buy mine annually so as long as I travel within the zones that I am covered in, I'm alright.

To my knowledge for travel insurance, you have to pay first and claim later for medical emergency. Is this correct?

Is there any company that offered insurance that we dont have to pay ? Just admit or use when required.

My family travelling to UK and needs to get immediately.

Thanks.

Recently my domestic flight in Philippines got cancelled and that caused me to miss my flight back to KL as well. I got the airline to print out a letter stating that the flight got cancelled. The airline put me on the next available flight and settled all connecting flight with no extra charges. The delay was about 17 hours to reach KL.

When I went back, I fill up the claim form for travel delay and flight misconnection. Emailed them the claim form, the domestic and international flight boarding passes, the two flights booking itineraries, the delay letter, copy of my passport and stated my policy number. Got back few hundred bucks from AXA for the whole thing with no further questions asked.

It's not that expensive for less than 7 days. Most likely below RM50 only. Just go for any travel insurance that you think is good. Or check with your credit cards to see which one provides travel insurance if you purchase the trip with the card.

None that I know of. If I were you, I'd just bring my credit cards and travel insurance policy documents. Swipe first then claim later.

Does anyone know? My flight landing 22:30, if flight delayed and miss the last prepaid non-refundable transport, and friends have to make a 90 min drive to pick two of us up, is this situation covered by most insurances?

Delays depend on how long the delays are. However, regarding the transport part, you might wanna check with your agent on the T&Cs of the "connecting" transport that you have booked. In some situations, they might let you claim.
