Tried the original client when I first started off. It was so slow that I switch to ABC.
ABC was simple and fast. Then came Bitcomet when I notice so many ppl using it. And now utorrent.

Currently using both Bitcomet and uttorrent.

i used the original client for a few days then changed to bitcomet which did a wonderful job until now. using u torrent now.

i dunno what happened to my bitcomet after my mobo came back from RMA.
i did everything that could be done. port forward, diasble upnp mapping, chnaged the port to 100,and enableed the protocol encryption. the speed is still very slow. will the download speed be limited like utorrent if i don't set the upload speed higher? i used to get 50-70 kbs but the new bitcomet is only at 5-10. and utorrent is not doing well enough also. only @ 30-40. btw i'm using the 88 plan

When I was new (read: just get my Streamyx), I did use original client. Then I switch to BitComet and use that for quite some time. Then I have to find another client that allows remote administration, and find Azureus, which I tried to avoid for some time because of bloat, and stays with it since then.

BitComet is, in my opinion, the fastest client around. torrent would do well but it was too passive when connecting to peers.

Started with original mainline client, switched to BitTornado, then Azureus, Bitcomet, torrent and back to Azureus again. Still using it since it has plugins like Safepeer and haven't had trouble with getting good speeds with it.

Bitcomet seems to be a CPU hog when coupled with an IPfilter file. Although Bitcomet seems to be very aggresive, Azureus seemed to be able to attain better speeds overall on my ADSL2+ connection. biggrin.gif

I have embarass history.

First time using BT Official without doing portforwarding (i didn't know i had to do it tongue.gif), very slow

Second time, using Shadow Experimental, still the same (i tot i could do it without forwarding port but -.-)

The first succesful experience was ABC, then follow by Azureus (which used to be very good), Bitcomet (don't really like it actually) and uTorrent currently

im firstly using bittorrent, but dunno how to use (dat time still dunno how bittorrent functions), then uninstall it.

after dat switch to bitcomet, used for a long time, then due to slow dl issues and heavy rubbish data created by bitcomet, now i switch to utorrent, very satisfy with its performance thumbup.gif

now my computer got two clients: utorrent and bitcomet, but i use utorrent most of the time

Start with Mainline-Zantorrent-XBT-Gtorrent-Rufus-Burst!-ABC-Bitspirit-Bitcomet-Azureus-Utorrent-Bittornado.

Now using Bittornado for private tracker, Azureus & Utorrent for public tracker.

Do you use dialer or a router?

For best results and less hassle, use the WinXP dialer or RASPPPOE.

If you use dialer, the settings are:-

Enable DHT Network: yes
Untick the other 3.
Maximum connection per task: 100
Connection to keep per task: 100
Global Maxmium/Minimum Upload Slots: Auto
Socket Send Buffer Size: Auto.
Socket Start Interval: 100ms
Max half-open TCP Connection: 100. (patch your tcpip.sys file to 200)
Use NAT Traversal via UDP: Auto Detect.

Do port-forwarding first, read the modem manual on how to do it.

Then just apply the above settings.

BitTornado (still my fav)-->BitComet (didn't really like it)-->utorrent. Had to switch clients with PE option due to recent Streamyx issues. But lately download speeds seems to drop dramatically again sad.gif

how do i patch the tcpip.sys file to 200?
thanks!
edit: googled and found out already. thanks anyway.

next question, why do we need to limit the max connections for task?
i thought more connections, the faster it will be?
thanks!

WOW! This is great! I just start using this UTorrent. Give me fast speed loading, low memory usage, only a small and simple application and even doesn't need to install so complicated. My 1st choice! ^^0o

I have been a heavy user of uTorrent, and frankly I am very satisfied with its performance.

A note to Bitcomet users though, certain trackers ban its usage citing the following reason.

QUOTE
"ok here is exactly why. BitComet reports false data to the tracker and to other peers. it reports that it is sending out way more data to peers than it actually is. so by banning it, and forcing the leechers to use clients that dont cheat, we get a healthier torrent. because (not sure if everyone knows) a healthy torrent works on the rewards system most of the time. meaning its like "ok ill send you a piece of this torrent, then you tell me when you sent it to someone else, and ill send you another." Bitcomet, as soon as it recieves a piece, weither it sends or not, reports back to the client that it recieved it from that it sent it to another peer. by removing the leechy client by nature, the torrent gets healthier, and the people who use real clients, and try to go 1:1 on the torrents get the complete torrent faster. once again if you want to complain to me about the decision to ban bitcomet, email me @ grimlock@kaa.animeconnection.net i would be happy to rant back."

actually no need to do patching.. cuz by using bitcomet as long as u set ur max half open tcp connection to the number u want, then they will automatically patch it.. so for the patching part it's ok if u never do it... and for the port forwarding part.. actually no need to do any port forwarding also ( for router user), just enable the uPnP function can adi... then will port forward for u... but recommend to disabled uPnP cuz if u enable, sometimes it may cost ur connection "die" even though ur internet connection is still connected..

ur setting might be not a problem, bitcomet and other p2p software depends on seeds and peers... if u have more seeds.. obviously it will run faster..

Just add the .torrent file in uTorrent and save it at the same place when you download with Bitlord. It will then rehash the file and continue download.

Btw Bitlord got spyware.

I think Bitcomet has no problem reading chinese torrent for unicode

If it's not unicode, you either need to use Chinese Windows XP or Microsoft Applocale to launch your uTorrent.

Why does it seems that my Bitcomet is holding back or limiting my download speed
the display speed and the actual speed is different.

just reopen the torrent file into the bittorrent client. then, select the new location where you stored the file.

Portforward.com - Check out how to do portforwarding here
since you said you're using router, i think you haven't portforward.

maybe there's too few seeders? there are many possibilities.

that version dun have protocol encryption, not sure will affect your speed or not, last time used that to bypass streamyx traffic shaping
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=253074&hl=bypass

the latest version of bitcomet have transfer encryption.

for me i personally prefer utorrent as it is light weight ( doesn't consume too much memory )

and as long as your settings/port forward/ etc you do it correctly then your speed will hv no problems i suppose.

refer to this thread for more guides and helps if you need

DNS server should be
202.188.0.133
202.188.1.5

not very sure, confirm from other ppl 1st

however,
go to http://canyouseeme.org/ to check whether you port forwarded correctly or not.
make sure you follow the steps of portforward.com correctly

Any suggestion on which bittorent clients is best for use other than Bitcomet and Bitlord? (currently used)

Previously used Azureus but I found out that sometimes my downloads doesn't run. When I change to Bitcomet and Bitlord, it seems ok. Plus Azureus doesn't provide downloading by episodes on season torrent file. Or do I need to change port for better speed?

About utorrent, is it great? Can it download separately episode by episode on season torrent file? Does it resume to download after restart?

from the screen shoot you provided

if you have done your port-forward correctly..should be able to get mix result which is remote and local.

do you use any firewall beside the windows firewall ? if so...maybe your own firewall is giving this trouble

i suggest utorrent.

yes, you can select invidual file in the torrent just like bitcomet. and yes again, it support resume after restart.

ill try disabling the firewalls. sometimes late at night i get dl speed up to 20kb/s( which is still slow) and thats the fastest. if i configured my portforward properly probably i could get higher. i used the windows firewall and added two ports for bitcomet( one TCP and the other UDP) using my bitcomet listen port.(under the exception tab). i still dun get remote downloads.

any port will do. set your maximum connection torrent to 50+. (this depend whether your router can handle that much connection or not) remember to enable protocol encryption (forced) and check the allow incoming legacy connections.

If you're sure that you've done port forwarding correctly, have you ensured that uTorrent.exe is in the allowed list in your firewall settings? It might happen that firewall is blocking utorrent from sending/receiving data with the forwarded port.

Shouldn't be anything wrong with uTorrent. I am a new user (just installed it and deleted Azureus), running perfectly fine with average 65kb/sec with max upload set at 15kb/sec.

I just re-used the Azureus port, no problem with the port test.

Have you enabled Protocol Encryption ?

If not, go HERE.

Juz downloaded n use this client last night, yup! like some forumer said, it abit faster than BitComet.
But... there's some configuration that i cant find n some need extra explaination too from experienced forumers... icon_question.gif

1. Auto Shutdown Windows.
Attached Image
This function pretty usefull as i always left my pc on doing his downloading job. So i wonder, this "auto shutdown", is it a "properly shutdown"? will it harm my system and cost some corrupt like the sudden shutdown when suddenly black-out or something. will it??? what if i have an unsave microsoft words document, the recovery stil work after reboot?

2. Free Physical Memory.
Attached Image
I'm not a gamer, so i did not prepare much ram for my pc. in bitcomet, as attached, i manage to find where to set so that i can limit the usage of ram. where is this setting in utorrent?

3. Share Ratio.
what will happen if my share ratio did not reach 1:1 at least? possibilities wil get baned by tracker???

4. Saved Files.
i crated a spesific folder for my torrents. that was in D:\Torrens. i wan all the torrents go to this folder, where to set it?? currently the files were saved into c:\...\my documents\downloads

5. uncompleted torrent files.
for all those uncomplete, i assigned it to have the !.ut extention. after the download finished it will gone oso rite?

6. DHT
i see it always not connected, disable. what should do???

QUOTE(anQi @ Jul 27 2006, 10:30 AM)
Juz downloaded n use this client last night, yup! like some forumer said, it abit faster than BitComet.
But... there's some  configuration that i cant find n some need extra explaination too from experienced forumers... icon_question.gif

1. Auto Shutdown Windows.

2. most of the time, T will use less than 6MB, beat that BC!! tongue.gif no need to worry about memory usage.

3. depends on your overall ratio on that particular site. mostly private tracker use ratio system.

4. Preferences > Download > select "put new downloads in"

5. yes

6. forward a UDP port, same value as TCP

--
tips: to make it easier for backup, move files from %AppData%\uTorrent to the same folder as utorrent.exe. you can make it portable (ex. run from USB drive) with this method.

Did you forward UDP as well? That's the protocol which DHT requires. Most port forwarding defaults to forwarding TCP only.

I'm using Bitcomet 0.70
Funny when I minimize the window, my download speed can reach 60KB/s, when I maximize the window it kept on dropping until 20KB/s or less.
After I minimize it to taskbar the download speed gain higher and reach 60KB/s back. New feature?

Well doesn't make sense, but that's wut i'm facing now. Weird.
Everytime i maximize the BitComet window the DL speed drop dramatically. From 60Kb/s to around 20Kb/s.

are you using a router or the ADSL modem itself ?

because the LAN IP itself is showing the IP address provided by tmnet.

better check your setting again.

What brand/model of modem should I use to overcome this problem?
*
From my experience mostly with wired modem/routers, browsing while uTorrent (default settings) is running in the background ...

1) Linksys BEFSW41 (Wifi) - I do sense a bit of hiccup from time to time when browsing.

2) Linksys BEFSX41 (Firewall router) - Very good with no noticeable effect on browsing. I have used this model for a long time. However, when you have 2 PCs running BT clients simultaneously, you'll get fairly severe browsing problems. Works well if only one PC runs BT client.

3) D-Link 504T - Total disaster. Avoid this ADSL modem/router at all cost. Can't browse sh*t and IMs disconnecting. Worst, it died during firmware upgrading too.

4) SMC Barricade 7904BRA (Firewall router) - Currently using with only one PC in my LAN running uTorrent, works flawlessly. I have not tax it yet with 2 PCs running BT client.

I'm interested to know more of P2P friendly modem/routers. Please share your experience.

then the LAN IP is the IP addess

i don't know why it show at LAN IP instead of WAN IP,maybe because you use ADSL modem itself but if you use it with a router,it will show the IP address in the WAN IP and the LAN IP is according to your router address

but when using uTorrent...no problem /swt ..

private trackers ...you need to login to their site before you can start downloading [ie: resume download]..

if not, you might get this error : "IP not recognized" or something similar like that... private trackers... gah... someone got demonoid.com account?.. invite me T_T

hey for those who are using utorrent..

does keeping the torrent list inside making the memory usage for utorrent become high? coz it seems like my utorrent mem usage becomes higher n higher each time i dl a torrent and keep the torrent list in it.

or it's because utorrent is connecting to many peers that's y the mem usage becomes high?

normally whn i open utorrent it's using around 8000k. after i leave it on to download for quite some time now it becomes 20000k

How many torrent you kept in it ? normally the more you keep the higher the ram somehow like if you keep 1000 torrent your ram will use up 20mb plus you are running it downloading.

Azureus for download and seeding.

Utorrent still got bugs with their super seed mechanism. But then again not all of us create files to upload right so does not matters..

Bitspirit uses Bitcomet's core. So the performance almost the same.

So far still the best for super seed is using Bittornado's core. I use it for initial upload.

Never use Bitcomet cause it will flood my router with too many unnecessary connection and their DHT too aggressive...the speed so so only..

bittornado (2003)-> bitcomet -> utorrent (now)

bittornado
pros
- simple gui n straightforward
cons
- doesnt support multitracker (back in those days)
- doesnt offer much tweak options
- 1 cleant for 1 torrent. imagine u leech n seed at sametime =__=

bitcomet
pros
- better gui that bittornado.
- customizable & tweakable for optimizing speed
cons
- err, memory consumptions?

utorrent
pro
- no need installer
- as good as bitcomet
cons
(none so far)

*i notice near to unnoticable speed difference between clients. so, if u know what to tweak, theres no reason client A is faster than B or such

I've completely dumped Bitcomet, currently using uTorrent (for local trackers) and Tuotu (for some HK contents)

Though I'm using a 1mbps line, it's very hard to get >100KBps of speed for a single task.

No difference basically.

Installation - just like your usual installer. It's being installed in the standard Program Files folder

Stand alone - no installation needed, juz exe. The benefit is, you can save it in your secondary partition/hard drive, and it's unaffected even after you re-format your OS

hmm so does this means that if i dl stand alone ... and i put it in my pen drive .. then i go cc/office/places without BT client or watever then i can still download torrent ?

so that means stand alone is better right ? How come the file is smaller ?

True to a certain extent. The first time you run the EXE from wherever you have put it in, it would usually create a uTorrent directory in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data and all your settings would be stored here. If you bring your pen drive and plug it in elsewhere, you would probably have to set all the settings you have changed from the default values.

Like samurai1337 has said, it's the same thing. The EXE is the same regardless of whether it's standalone or via installation.

sry i didn't quite get that ... 'settings you have changed' ?? meaning all the settings in utorrent is it ? As in the port and where to save the file n stuff ? So if i dun change any setting .... i can install it in the pen drive and use it anywhere without installing it again ?

Currently use VUZE but got bug i thinnk. I just dl couple of short clips but it use too much space on my hdd. B4 install i got 4+gb free space on my laptop hdd. After dl around 10 short videoclips that each clip does not exceed 100mb, got warning popup from my system tray. It tell me that my free space too low. Less than 1gb. What happen? I just dl not more than 500mb total of video clips but where there other 4+gb gone? So weird. Can someone help me? I likes vuze bcoz it got many hd content. Superb interface. High quality content. Suitable for my large display. But got issue about space consumption. Is it a bug?
