Hi guys, am also a user with the Maxis router Archer C5v!
Noticed with this router it really messed up my Chromecast connectivity. My chromecast is first generation which means it can only connect to 2.4ghz wifi, but somehow if I switch my device to the 5ghz wifi I am able to connect to the Chromecast. But it is really unstable and not always reliable, my device will often lose connection to the Chromecast after a while.

Then, I noticed my devices on 5ghz wifi is always disconnected intermittently - I finally decided to disable 5ghz altogether. This helped the Chromecast connectivity a bit because it is no longer 'confused'. However, I noticed even with just the 2.4ghz active, the device can't find the 'cast' icon and is occasionally unable to connect to the Chromecast sleep.gif I noticed it will return to normal after I decide to restart the router, then my devices are able to cast to the Chromecast as normal, this issue will recur every 2 days for some reason. It's like after a while, Chromecast decides that it wants to disappear and does not want to be found.

Can anyone give any suggestions on what router to switch to? I am not sure whether this is a Chromecast issue or a router issue. I know that this Archer c5v is really shit and I am willing to make an investment on a good router provided that the none of the above-mentioned issues appear again...but if it's just maybe that Chromecast itself is unreliable, then perhaps I should get an Android TV box where I don't have to bother about 'casting' because the only reason why I would cast is to watch Netflix, YouTube and Spotify which are all easily available on an Android TV box...

I can't believe I'm saying this, but 4 months after switching from unifi to maxis (100Mbps) I'm regretting and counting down the months before the contract is over so I can switch back to unifi (20 months to go - yikes!)

First problem is intermittent connection on my PC (with LAN cable) when I'm having a lengthy teleconference (over an hour) or downloading a huge file (above 300MB) from file hosting websites. This is especially true during the nights when I suppose it is peak hours.

Second one, to echo cherriedpie, my mobile devices on the 5Ghz channels also keep getting disconnected or worse, at times, the devices can't pick up the 5Ghz channel even though I could be just in the next room, a mere 5 meters away from the C5v router. It's annoying. Has anyone here changed the router to your own and have better connection? I'm wondering if that is the cause...

Sigh, if only unifi had launched their 100Mbps plan for RM129 earlier...

I hope everyone can still lodge a complaint to MCMC while sourcing for the replacement router.  It is only beneficial and effective if everyone lodge a complaint .. the site is https://aduan.skmm.gov.my/Complaint/AddComplaint?NOSP=1

As it is hard to simulate the droppage of connection within a short period of time, I hope it's not just a waste of time..  Let's see what he suggested.

Ok.. here is the update.

The tech brought a new (same) router along.. (I tot he will just be replacing one for me, which I tot make no difference).

But after inspecting the existing unit, he asked if i have a spare Ethernet cable.  I got a Cisco 72-1791-01 (cat 5 only i think) and he replaced the old cable with this one.
He then turned on my 2.4GHz channel, and asked if I wish to Combine both 2.4Ghz+5GHz ?  I asked what benefit does it get... he told me that's the best he can do with this Tplink since it is not considered 'faulty' yet, by doing so it will extend the signal and perhaps 'strengthen' it.  So yes, i told him to proceed.

So the end result is :
- i can get wifi signal in my mobile even at my kitchen where I usually lost it before today (it was solely on 5Ghz, 2.4G was turned off). (in double storey house where router is located upstairs).
- speedtest in my laptop (wired connection) gets to 99-100Mbps .  I usually got about 85-90Mbps at this hour (~11am)
- try to run a soccer clips and some youtube movies in my living area using my mobile, looks smoother (hopefully not just psychologically!!)

So, if it is still unsatisfactory after this, his suggestion was to change to a new router as he thinks Maxis won't be changing the router to other brand/model anytime soon.  Connectivity in this router is a common problem reported by most ftth users - he concurred.

Let's see what my kids' comments about the smoothness in the games they play in their pads later on..

That's all folks.. Cheers

Of coz by combining 2.4+5 will extend the coverage but the far
device will auto switch to 2.4
This tplink got isu with 5ghz only
That's why i nvr use 5ghz since day 1 and till today no connection drop
When i use 5ghz then the prob start

2.4ghz cannot realise the potential of 100Mbps ..on mobile, 2.4 only gets me close to 40+Mbps.. that's why i turned to 5ghz.  Actually after changing the DHCP and turning off IPvs, connectivity wasn't an issue to me using 5Ghz at home.  This report to MCMC was just merely to test/check how Maxis would response..

changing dhcp meaning before this u're using static ip ?

Pick A. I personally don't have experience with tenda but the problem is with the tplink c5v router and or firmware. Once I switched to Asus ac68u problem solved.

Agreed
Maxis fiber is good, only router not good
Before this i'm on 20mbps maxis n using cheap tplink ( but loaded with ddwrt )
With fan direct to router, i nvr reboot it unless power trip due to lightning
Far far away better than c5v

Guys, what's the usual expected download/upload speed for 100Mbps? I'm only getting 95MBps/45MBps on a landed property. I would assume it should be around 98/48 at least?

What aftermarket routers work with the Fiber Nation package? I've about had it with the stock router they gave with the upgrade.
