MATEX usually for cover false ceiling or base paint.
I not using for top layer. Matex is almost base paint.. Once you wipe it over can be see internal cement or wall layer.
For my case, I used matex for base layer and after dry then cover another layer on top of easy clean white color

Nothing wrong on the paint. Normally ppl use pure white on ceiling as no body will touch the ceiling. however, if u use it at wall, then u will spot stain easily as it traffic area.

jackchong890, no problem with the paint by itself. Many development is using this paint. It is a finishing paint, not a base paint. If your contractor use the paint as per manufacture's instruction, it will not give you any problem. Your contractor is highlighting your colour selection, not the selection of type of paint. What he try to tell you is not many people want to use pure white on wall due to maintenance issues.

Matex normally have poorer hiding than normal finishing paint. So any difference in the wall colour tone (especially previous paint job) will show up. The washability is poorer too so you cannot wipe the wall much or else the paint will scrub off. Mild wipe is ok but vigourous rubbing or scrubbing will wash out the paint. Also as other members mention before painting the whole room white makes the room space too 'clinical' and boring. Without some form of colour or pattern to break the monotony, the room aesthetics will not be pleasing.

I'm using the Nippon super matex brilliant white-meant for ceiling...but i also used it for 1 wall where its gonna be covered with cabinets... This wall previous color was red...i applied: 1 coat Nippon eco-bond sealer (transparent) 2 coat matex All previous red paint cant be seen anymore..
Now i plan to use the same matex paint as base coat (1st coat) for remaining walls For the second coat, i'll go with the Nippon brilliant white 1001 from their classic collection (i'm hoping this will save cost) I dont see a problem using briliant white paint...walls with any color will also show dirtiness if not taken care...unless all walls paint with black My previous house was using Dulux briliant white..quite happy with it.

Sorry to hijack thread but need to ask.
If walls are originally white do we still need to primer it before we go for the actual colour top coating?
I know its best to just follow recommendations to apply primer no matter if its already white or not because the primer's main purpose is to help the top coat adhere and hold onto the wall better.
So yea...anybody here facing the same dilemma ?
