I am travelling to Kobe on July 4th, staying there for a week or so.
Any recommendation on places to go nearby?
Thanks.

I stayed in Kobe in my previous trip too. My friend lives in Kobe, so I just bunked in her place. biggrin.gif
Buy Kansai Thru Pass (3 days and 2 days pass are available), then you are good to go to everywhere in Kansai.
I went to Osaka, Kyoto and Nara from Kobe. Though Kyoto and Nara are not that near from Kobe but I can bear with it, their train service is very efficient. The nearest one will be Osaka though. smile.gif

Is 45000 Yen good enough for Osaka + Kyoto 7D6N trip?

**excluding air tickets and accomodation
*
I changed 100k yen and left with around 10k yen when I came back. I did swipe my card in between for another RM 1.5k.
Accommodation was free. Just makan, transportation, sight seeing and bought some souvenirs.
Mine was 9D8N at Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe. smile.gif

Er, your Malaysia ATM card can be used to withdraw money in Japan. smile.gif
So long you activate this facility via local bank and use it in overseas. If you are using Maybank, it can be activated via M2U. smile.gif

QUOTE(faridz7 @ Mar 2 2015, 04:30 PM)
thanks for the info RegentCid, as always

just wanna confirm that what Ive gathered from my research so far is right

I'll be traveling to Osaka ( 2 days there ) and then to Tokyo. I just need a 1 way shinkansen ticket to Tokyo and then travelling across the different areas in Tokyo, I'll just need to get a Suica card which I will reload it along the way. Looking to go to Mount Fuji on a day trip so I'll get a bus from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko and then a shinkansen back to Tokyo.

Am I right so far in the sense that I do not need to get a JR pass or any other passes which I might have missed, which would save me on transportation costs..
*
If it is just a one-way trip of Shinkansen then it is difficult to break-even. smile.gif
I just used Pasmo and bought Shinkansen ticket separately. smile.gif

ah ok, thanks

yup I'll be buying the Shinkansen ticket separately, Osaka to Tokyo on a Nozomi train

Pasmo and Suica are about the same right, especially if I'm just using it to go around the popular areas..Akihabara, Odaiba etc, been reading up on it but so far as I can tell, theyre literally about the same
*
Yes, they are the same. smile.gif

I took Tokyo to Osaka on Nozomi too. laugh.gif

So this better & cheaper than getting Pocket WiFi Rental?
*
Er.. I didn't really check out those MiFi as I'm worried of its battery life and require deposit and return back to them before I leave Japan.
So coincidentally someone was in Japan before I went there and I got her help to bring me back the SIM card. Bought a nano card for my iPad Mini, popped in before I left Malaysia. Once I reached Tokyo I was already well connected to the Internet. biggrin.gif

In Osaka, is it better to get Kansai thru pass or osaka amazing pass?

As I know Kansai thru pass cannot take jr train.
*
Kansai Thru Pass wins hands down if you plan to other places in Kansai.
I used it for 5 days (3 days + 2 days ticket) to commute from Kobe to Osaka, Kyoto and Nara. So convenient and unlimited train rides and bus rides in Kyoto.
Saved me quite a lot especially I was staying at my friend's house in Kobe and if I don't have this pass, I would have spent more.
Those 5 days were the time I didn't really bother to be extra careful on my rides and stations to get down, so that I won't spend more. laugh.gif

It took up quite a lot of courage for me to eat it, was staring at the sandwich for quite some time. laugh.gif
Then, I finally had the first bite and it tasted like luncheon meat, then the rest is history. I finished all. laugh.gif blush.gif

I travel to China so often now that Beijing is my second home now... laugh.gif

Anyway, goodbye Japan for now until the next one comes. My boss makes me a mentor for my colleague in Japan. So yeah, who knows I will need to be there physically in the future to guide her? laugh.gif

Nevertheless, my next trip is probably Europe, a business trip. smile.gif

For me business trip and leisure travelling is two different things. Sad to say I travel to Europe almost once a month.....but its Fly from Tokyo on Monday and leave Europe on Friday where there is  no time to really travel around. Just only once a while I give myself the pleasure to extend a weekend to explore.
*
Usually my business trip is quite free and easy. tongue.gif I go into office late and get out early and extend my stay up to one month. laugh.gif

I have been doing it for my business trips in China. tongue.gif

Im also travelling to Japan end of this month 24/3 - 4/4. Doing a rather weird route cause most of the hotels are fully booked. Till now I still have yet to book a place to stay in Tokyo and Hakone.

Will be arriving at Osaka and will stay there for bout 4 days and travel to Kyoto and Nara. Then depart to Tokyo from Osaka most likely via Shinkansen.

From Tokyo, will stay for a few days then head to Hakone for a night/day trip (still looking for an affordable place), then back to Tokyo again. Then from Tokyo will be travelling to Takayama for a night and back to Tokyo again for the flight back to KUL. Was busy with work and didn't really look for hotels and now really headache.lol
*
I think you should do Hakone first before exploring Tokyo. Hakone is on the way from Osaka to Tokyo, if traveling from Osaka or vice versa.
