True, this type of tank is what they call a magic bullet tank, it takes some used to to master bouncing shells, much like is-3 and is-7 .... many people say its bouncy, but what makes it bouncy isn't the armor, its the turret and angling at some point, when enemy shoot if your pike aren't directly against the direction high chance it will go trough, a slight change in direction can bounce even 311 pen.
The way to earn good credits with this tiger is to catch enemy off guard and pump as many shells into their side and back as you can, the alpha dmg is very good and if you can land few shots you will be already earning few match worth of credits. In very very rare situation you would ever spend HEAT unless you absolutely have to ....... something like maybe last tank vs last tank and enemy tank has thick armor, or taking out super important tanky tank to be able to crush their weak support.
I would say see this as a perspective of training close combat, its a good tank to train on with close encounters. From time to time you will face players that is seemingly invincible with this sort of tank, which means they have a lot of experience in driving this type of tank, you will need to be able to get into their mind set on how the tank works in order to work out a way to deal with them. Simply having high pen gun aren't going to dispatch them at all unless he is surrounded.
I'm speaking base on the perspective of having played those tank and bounce skorpion g's bullets even against 311 bullets. And also deal with this type of enemy as a skorpion g. Once you get the hang of it you will immediately know if enemy is experience or a freshmen.
I remember there is a very pro player on this type of tank once told me that even though your pike can bounce bullet if you can try not to show them at all, expert player would only present the turret to enemy and only show body when there is no dig down option. But that being said its much harder to do that in reality.
Yesterday having a good game streaks, able to intercept HTs' sides and rear within cities, having 70% of the light tank speed does helps a lot (Thanks to in progress offroad driving), silvers keep rolling into my pockets~
Alpine tiger's top speed is just the engine speed limit, with fresh crews, it will almost never hit past 40kmh even on flat ground... With 70% Off road I able to hit 45kmh consistently on soft terrain...
With such speed, Alpine can direct take shortcut and rush into some choke points and hold the position better than LT/MTs, it can further pressure the flanking sides by simply charging frontally, since not much MTs/TDs can chill and PEN your Alpine when u rushing in high speed.
Now next my Alpine need Clutch braking and BIA+vents for further hull control in order to compete fast MTs/LTs/TDs... it might sounds weird using HT to play like this, but 175 PEN gun is beyond despair...
Just bought Challenger and used it on couple of battles: (BIA + Camo maxed with some skills on progress)
1. Control slightly lesser than FV4202
2. Speed acceleration much better than FV4202 & SKG
3. 300 damage 30 pdr can let enemy feel way more painful than FV4202 gun
4. Very odd avenger turret hull, 200mm armor at the REAR of the turret
5. The experience is like in the middle between Skorpion G & FV4202, but definitely better experience than both especially on slopes (SKG cant have 10 degree depression on slopes, FV4202 alpha damage too low and cant overmatch STRV-S1)
6. Facing only up to tier 9, thats make a lot difference than SKG/FV4202
7. The only downside is, 900hp with little armor thus cant even do minimum brawl, and its not premium vehicle
I expect Charioteer performance will be better than this Challenger, Conway might be worse experience than SKG due to dispersion & lower shell speed
