Water lettuce needs to have lots of light. I planted this before.
Try this. Fill up an empty bucket with normal tap water. Put three water lettuce in the bucket and then place that bucket outdoors, in your garden, but not in a direct sunlight area.
Water lettuce cannot have direct sunlight either which is too strong for it.
Come back one week later to check on it.

When was the last time you did your tank maintenance? 

Most effective and cheap method is - do a black out routine. First, clean all the hair algae as much as possible, do a WC, then cover it with black rubbish black, pitch black for 3 days, off CO2, filter continue to run, feed if needed, no need to dose fertz. After 3 days, do cleaning and WC,  turn the light on for 3 days (6-7 hours each day), turn on CO2, dose nutrient.

Depend on your tank, you can repeat this 2 - 3 times. The only side effect - some of your plants might not cope well and melt, but so far it works like magic to me. Black out is a process to starve algae, and usually plant's endurance without light is stronger than algae.

don't buy aluminum type la, get those cheaper ones, serve the same only also.

if your fishes are not behaving like gasping for air on the surface, then it is fine. don't need to worry too much. i think your tank can go on like 1.5-2 bps, should be good enough ady. i reckon can start with 1.5 bps first. once your tank is fully planted already, then can increase gradually to 2bps. should be enough. good luck.

Hello there~! Just stumbled upon this thread and wanted to say Hi~! I had a planted tank 4 and a half years ago. Here it is~



Tore it down 3 and a half years ago because the lack of an Aquarium Chiller  , didn't have the money to get one. The ambient temperature made the temperature of the water 32°C at times, the plants just couldn't survive in that temperature. I could only enjoy it for 1 year. Hoping to get back into the hobby in the near future after saving up a bit.

ceramic plate of co2 diffuser? i use bleach.

the safer way is to use H2O2.

what is the concentration ratio of bleach u use?

pharmacy did sell H2O2, normally in 3% concentration. best if u could find 10%, can dilute urself.

i use undiluted bleach. only need 30min to 1hr depending on how thick the algae that has grown on the ceramic
