Thanks! Maybe I'll post how the tank will look like first before putting any livestock.

Also, I just like to chcek with all the lighting gurus here if I can use this for my 30 gal tank. Dimension of the tank is 30x15x15 inches.

T5-8W, 680LM-6500K per assembly. Maybe 2-or 3 of these? or LED bulbs are still much preferred?

I got a few plants in my aquarium. This is how may tank looks like now. There's a patch of dead "carpet seed" plants in the middle cause I had been busy these past 2 weeks and it grew too tall.

Found it in Mr. DIY here in Giant Kelana Jaya. I'm looking to replace the busted wavepoint led light that I had bafore. Now my tank is running on a 60cm pro z led.

Hi bros aquascapers!

I'm having algae problems in my planted tank. I think its my light, which is only a normal led light of 48 led, i think its 0.5w type. Do you think low light can cause black hair algae?
*
last time i kena bba, its becoz of not enough co2. bump my co2 up by 1 bps n it slowly disappear..

Trying to raise the co2 bps now, but kinda doing it slowly. Afraid the shrimps might die heart attack  sweat.gif

Do you remove the algae manually? Or just keep it there? Cause pulling the algae ends up ripping the leafs from the plants, or worst the plants itself!
*
trimmed the affected leaves. last time it only affects my dwarf java fern. some recurrence occurs, but after awhile it just stops altogether (after i increase my co2)

The algae is on my java fern too. Most of my plants are slow growing. I'm hoping I could get away with just shrimps that I bought a few days ago. Looks like its getting smaller, but its still quite big. The algae looks like big black cloud already. What other shrimp do you recommend I add?

Hmmm.. Also thinking of changing my led light to a better set cause I really think its the reason why the algae keep growing.. What light do you use?
*
yes, bba mainly attack slow growing plant. about shrimp i cant recommend u coz i dont keep any (not using any chiller, only fan, my tank can go up to 27-28 C, which definitely makes it feel like a sauna for them shrimps laugh.gif ) but i heard malayan shrimp (caridina sp malaya) quite hardy n can tolerate relatively high temperature, but u got higher chance meeting an artist than to come across it selling in malaysia laugh.gif

about lighting, cant remember what the brand is, but i combo 6500k with pink grow light (up aqua brand?) (g23 base), total watt was i believe is 26 watt or something like that cant remember) another tank was t5 both 6500k total watt was 30w? both are small tank laugh.gif

i believe can, provided if ur aquarium is large enough and hav chiller. led lighting still produce heat, n water is a heat retainer, so if u introduce heat into ur aquarium, n didnt do proper chilling, ur tank water can easily reach high temperature.

my 2cent opinion btw

Thanks. Sounds logical but if installed with fans and suspended high enough away from the water surface, say 1 feet, it can work right? Heatsinks, I think is out of the question coz the body is made of plastic.
*
oh, u mean use it outside of aquarium? laugh.gif idk whether heat would be an issue liddat. i tot u wanna put it INSIDE of ur aquarium since it is a submersible lighting

Ya! Feels great to see crystal clear water.
Was gonna start over again aka remove everything including substrate and replant. But in the end decided why not just use anti algae medication to bring down the algae first. I didnt have much livestock anyway, 1 OTO and 2 shrimp.
I bought it from taobao.

Here is the link. 200W peltier chiller

Total i paid around rm400, shipping alone is RM56.
*
any idea how much electric u use for peltier chiller? kinda wanna buy 1, been contemplating for a long time laugh.gif

Great. I might need this for my tank. Been battling with gha a few months brushing it off the plants.

Tq
*
brushing it wont work, trust me. in fact u prolly gonna make it worse if somehow u didnt take out all/overlooked some of the 'hair' uve brushed

best way to deal with it (in my own personal experience) is to trim the affected leaves.

*
its definitely the new soil. it might still leaching ammonia n nitrite to ur water, thats why ur shrimp population got wiped out

Sifus...

How long the soil will be stable?

And how long its take to fully cycle (I used filter from previous tank).

Tried and tried and tried to introduce Yamato, but unfortunatly, all will die on the next day.

Thanks in advance
*
try increasing the bio media in your filter. that helps me before. remember more bio media=more nitriting+nitrating bacteria=better quality water tongue.gif

Hi,

I grow some repens and initially they grow well but after sometime, the new leaves start to rot and break off into small pieces and eventually leave only the shoots.

I have been putting ferts and all other plants are growing well except this one. Any advice/suggestion?
*
light too bright? too hot? too acidic? can be multiple reason.

in my experience, staurogyne melts when light is too bright, especially when u just recently plant it.

I feel sad, really really sad. Below is my story.

My tank recent parameter (for past week) have a stable parameter(finally fulled cycled after 2 month setup) with 0ppm Ammonia, 0 ppm Nitrite and 20~40ppm Nitrate.

On last Saturday, I've addded 5 Yamatos, and on yesterday (Sunday), I've done my periodically 50% water change. During water change, the water temperature is increase to 28.5~29degC, normally my tank hover around 28degC constant.

Today, I woke up with 4 Yamatos dead, what did I do wrong?

I feel sad, really really sad...

any suggestion to substitute seachem potassium?

which will be more recommended KNO3, K2SO4, KCI?
*
i think KNO3 is the best among those 3. since, its salt potassium n nitrate. the other two is sulphate n chloride, which i believe is potentially harmful to ur tank. but potential algae bloom too since ull be dosing nitrate into ur tank. my 2 cent. idk im no chemist let the other cfu guide u laugh.gif

I think it is time for me to jump into CO2 bandwagon, currently still using excel for the carbon intake for the plant, but the growth is quite limited and I battling with the filament algae.

To all sifus out there:

a) What is the option available for CO2 system?

and

b) How much?
*
250 (or was it 150?) for a repurposed 5kg co2 extinguisher bottle (theres someone here selling it. i cant remember, i think it is weijie
150 (should be cheaper now) for a solenoid co2 regulator
100 (idk, maybe can get it cheaper now) for hard line co2 tubing n ceramic diffuser.
