If no live stocks, you should up your co2 to a lot higher, until it's yellow in co2 indicator. I started 2 tanks in the past 2 months, diatom seems to be an inevitable state. But diatom will go away once your tank is stable, it will be good to clean it as it will affect the plant growth, they say black Molly eats them, but when the diatom are gone, you will stuck with a Molly. Haha. I cleaned it using small hose to suck them out and toothbrush. I remember for my 60cm, I have to clean it every single day because they grow very fast, but I can see them slowly fade out after 2 weeks and now are completely gone.

Fed up, fed up, fed up. With a heavy heart, I decided to convert my tank to a shrimp only tank. Recently added 12 CRS, all kena eaten by the Green Neons. So I'm going to remove almost all the fishes and keep only shrimp friendly fishes. I'm gonna concentrate on shrimps now.

Giving away Greens Neon Tetras and one SAE.

Any takers, please PM. Self collect at PJ.

Will be happy to also swap/trade with Rasboras, or even shrimps. I have about 80 Green Neons to rid of.

I have cardinal tetras and ember tetra living peacefully with 20+ cherry shrimps, including some shrimplets too.

No, can't say its the ADA way - probably get sued for that. But I asked how would ADA do it if they were setting up a new tank? But they do publish a booklet "The Making of Nature Aquarium".
Anyway, we all have to start some where, and the trial and error you're doing was also how I started tongue.gif
We all learn along the way.

And.. that's the fun part of Planted tank, you will learn throughout the whole cycle, and learn again when you start a new one.. haha.

Yeah, I wished I had your setup. I used to feed the tetras pellet food and they co-existed peacefully.
But I made a mistake in their diet. I started feeding them Brine shrimp (meat), coconut flesh, and dried spinach. The spinach floats on the water like bread, and the fishes nip on them - and it creates a feeding frenzy like piranhas biting a bigger prey.

I think this got them used to eating foods that are bigger than them by nipping. So when I added the CRS, and they saw this bright red and white thing swimming among the school. One fish will nip on it curiously, and then the whole bunch pounces on it like food. Saw this a few times and all my CRS are gone. Geez...

So far I've not seen them attacking the Cherries. Or Tigers and CBS which I just added - but I don't want to push my luck.

Anyone wants Green Neon Tetras, please PM. You can have them FOC. I want to convert my tank to shrimp only. Please do me (and the fishes, and shrimps) a favor smile.gif
*
You're converting your 3ft tank to shrimp only??

I started to feed my tetras bloodworms 2 days ago, I hope that won't trigger the inner beast inside them. blink.gif

Yes, I want to convert my 3 footer to a shrimp only - for the foreseeable future.
No idea about bloodworms. You may have a different experience. Btw, the tetras are not attacking the Cherries - only the CRS which is so colorful and tempting tongue.gif

Btw, I'm also looking forward to participating in the 2017 IAPLC. You joining too? Just for the fun of it - not for prizes.
*
I have got some fire red shrimp too. So, what fishes are you giving away?

2017 IAPLC! Sounds fun, do they charge registration fees?

Green Neons. If you want, you can take tongue.gif
There's no charge for IAPLC. Application is online. For 2016, its already closed, so we can target for 2017 smile.gif
This gives us a lot of time to get the plants all fattened up for the photo shoot. haha.

I'll pass, I scare later your Green Neons eat all my shrimpets! haha.

There's plenty of times then! I'll see how my tank goes, I don't plan to re-scape for another one or two years anyway, might worth to try smile.gif

The one from 88pets mart uses blue, white and red light, has night mode and also built in timer.

I'm using this:
https://www.facebook.com/783135141755008/ph...?type=3&theater

It works well for me, it's already 1 year. I plug it to a timer. It comes with dimmer too. Only white light. Love its thin casing.

Hi bro, my bazooka also leak.. You said you think yours is leaking. How can you not know for sure if its leaking? You can see the bubbles if its leaking. I can see a small bubble leak on the tube joint connecting to the bazooka - but too lazy to fix it, so I'm living with it tongue.gif

You can consider "co2 inline atomizer". Try to google that. I used it last time, and had good results in terms of maintenance (almost never cleaned) and its performance and trouble free.
*
I'm using Up Aqua inline diffuser, it works perfectly. Micro bubbles, no need to clean and less one item exposed in the tank.

After a month of experienced in planted aquarium. Recently I found few issues that annoying me, not sure is it common for all, just wanna share or get some opinion from bros here:

My planted aquarium come with livestock such as guppies, caldina, Molly, SAE & Oto

1. Fish get sick easily (ich(all fishes), fin rot(guppy), Popeyes(caldina &molly) or fungus (caldina)), i tried very hard to save them but in the end dead, sad. I did almost 2 or 3 times of 30-50% water change per week , but still deceases still love them sad.gif

2. Algae on glass, I guess the scientific name called Green Dust Algae.

3. Due to the sick fishes, then I put in some salt, now seen like causing the plants (MC, hair glass ) melted but the Java miss and Christmass moss are doing good. Now I had almost 100 % water change in my aquarium, not sure can save my plants or not, just worry there is still some salt content in the soil.

I realized its kind of hard to get everything balance, worst my aquarium has yet to achieve full cycle at the moment.
*
How do you do your cycle? How big is your tank?

I have a 30cm nano tank myself. Due to its water capacity, if something went wrong (water parameter changes, diseases, algae, bacteria), it will spread and see the effect pretty quickly.

2. Yes, that's GDA, usually lower the light period to 5 hours and add 1-2 nerite snails will solve your issue. I had it pretty badly in my 60cm before (imagine this, after WC, it came back within a day), now just a few green spot algae even though i dont do WC for 2 weeks.

3. Not a good idea. Best to get a small plastic tank and isolate the sick fish.

hi bro, i might not be right but i dont think overstocking is the cause of his fish getting ill. in my 2ft i have 4 discus (size of an adult's palm),  2 fully grown SAE, 4 yamato,  2 albino corydora, 2 bumblebee goby, 2 Red Zebra Danio, 12 rummynose, 20 neon tetra, 6 guppies, 1 ram chichilid, and a dozen of wild colour shrimps, 5 nerite snails and they are all doing fine with no sign of sickness.

but i have a c3 and a top aqua hang on filter running, temp is around 27-30'c

i change my tank water once a week

my tank has been running almost 2 years

also i have java fern, tiger lotus, amazon sword and some large rocks
*
Do you mind to share your tank photo? laugh.gif I wanted to have a pair of german blue ram cichlid, but I bit worried they will eat my shrimplets. Does your discus and ram cichlid attack your shrimps?

I have a 2 ft around 20 cardinal tetra, ember tetra, cherry barb, galaxy rasbora, norman blue eye and 30+ of cherries shrimps (adult and young one).

Seriously? Everyday need to boil & soak, alamak. I thought once I get back home then I wanna start to pu everything in the tank. I don't mind abit tanning, I believe after few times of wc, tanning will be reduced, but what I m worry is whether is it harmful to fish n plant.
*
I boiled it 2-3 times and soak it in water for a week. My tank has been 2-3 months now, and the wood is still tanning the water, but it's lesser now though.

Yes, plenty. I added oto and nerite snails after one week of setup, and cherry shrimps after 2 second week. Then fishes and more shrimps afterward. I do 30% WC weekly to reduce the tanning. So far so good.

Nice scape! Are those MC?

One thing you need to be aware, sometimes Nerite snails will dig up carpet plant near the glass like a bull dozer.

Ah, magic seed. I heard this magical plant will only last for a few months.

I have a nano tank with hairgrass, I had the same issue with Nerite, so I got it replaced with Apple snails which is smaller and gentle. It will breed though. Funny thing, Apple snails came with the bucep I bought, it wasn't visible at first but now I have around 8 of them. FOC.

Blackout is good for hair, green spot, green dust algae. I think BBA need spot treatment (H2O2, Seacheam excel...)

i'm kinda afraid to use h2o2. first time i used, i lost like 50% of my shrimps. sad.gif

I experienced the same thing. You can either isolate the shrimp or take out the wood/rock/plant with BBA and do isolated treatment.

I went to Aquafest in MINES convention centre today, guess what I found - 2 rare species of anubias. The dark green is the smallest anubias, a new species. It's smaller than Anubias Nana "Petite". Whopping RM100 and RM150 per pot though!

Hey, I don't have their contact unfortunately. They are actually distributor and specialise in tissue culture.
