I think I'll go with the floodlights. If it gets hot (hopefully not!) then better DIY a cooling fan as well. Hahaha!

if you have green dust algae on your glass, nerite snails are really effective way to remove them. Instead of wiping your tank glass, you can enjoy your tank

Hi all, after few days of extensive reading and YouYube-ing, I'm interested to dip my feet into this hobby - the picture that has given me inspiration:



I like the Iwagumi concept, and I could just watch the Youtube videos of Iwagumi tanks for hours!

So, with Iwagumi concept in mind, I'm going to start small, this is what I have in mind - just focal rock with Monte Carlo plant as carpet, stabilise the system first for few months before adding shrimps:



I've decided to get these equipments - I'm willing to spend ~RM600ish for total startup cost - let me know your thoughts:

Glass Tank:

Fluval Spec 5 gallon (~20 liter) approx RM400.
Would LOVE ADA tanks, but when considering separate external filter + lighting system, I guess I'll get this for upgrade in future when I fully grasp the whole idea.

Substrate
ADA Amazonian? Do I need extra boost?

Co2 System

Ok this is what I need your help with - I'm planning to put this in my bedroom, which has a lot of big windows with UV film + thin transparent curtains.
Although I'm going to put the tank on the corner where direct sunlight does not hit - it will still get indirect sunlight as the bedroom is bright during the day.
I read that high light needs high Co2. Ok, I can put in Co2 system.

I think I'm going for pressurised Co2 tank system - as I occasionally travel for work (~4 weeks at a time) so DIY yeast/sugar is not feasible.
I found this method here which I think is good, but requires extensive DIY. Is this what you guys are using? Especially in Malaysia, how easy to buy the Co2 cylinder? Is there any suggestions where I can get the regulators, valve, etc hardware (Kajang/KL)?

Those semi-transparent flat piece of acrylic that protects the fluorescent light from being hit with water. Mine got blurred through time. Similar effect from the stains from the water surface. This stain on the acrylic is causing the light intensity to reduce. Wanna know how you guys solve this problem.

No concern in tripping the electricity? Strip it off means water can easily bounce into the casing.

i have my nerites climbing out at times from the tank, and they fall to the ground, upon putting back in the tank after awhile they start moving back..

I stopped the hobby years back due to not having enough time to manage, now feeling like restarting the hobby, all my equipments still available except for the tank, LED, and some minor co2 equipments.

Planning to go with 45cmx30cmx35cm iwagumi style, with just HC and probably some mini fissidens, I've recently heard about these "magic seeds", i wonder if they are any good, and how fast would they grow in a hi-tech tank? Or should I stick to HCs?

Finally a bigger tank, any good recommendation for canister filter? It is a 4ft tank

The 1 I'm currently using is not good enough, jebo 1770 if I remember correctly, rm150, it doesn't really filter well, always see the red colour thingy near the filter inlet, time to get a better 1 and need advise, budget rm400 or slightly higher will be fine
