Thank you so much for the information! Rufus drinks a lot of water though so I'm not too worried and the youngin keeps him active biggrin.gif I will also try your "take it or leave it" method. May I know what cat food do you feed your cat(s)?
This is very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to do some research and providing some much needed information for future cat food research. Cheers!  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

I'm not saying CR is not good.

That is just my way of being a consumer, I want to compare products, which company is more transparent, which is more worth the RM.

Currently the flers just finished a big bag of Totw river canyon..
Totw is the cheapest? grain free cat food Made in the usa.

It doesn't have a strong smell, spoilt cats dont like but they will eat it when they are really hungry.

Totw i got rm110 or lower frm shop, for 7kg earlier this year,
which is less than rm16/kg.

Last time they(not sure is manufacturer or shipper) poke alot of holes on the packaging to release air. This actually will contaminate the food. Then early this year, they didn't do it. Current batch, I'm not sure.

If we look @ the ingredient. We can tell the protein mainly comes frm potatoes and peas.

This is the factory address. When you google, u can see the factory. The low rating is not related to the products, but from truckers.

Brit premium salmon, used to have aroma on par with orijen/acana, very natural and strong.
Then this year, the formulation changed? It smells like taiwan made cat food. And the shape also changed. Maybe cos by pandemic, they can°t get supply etc.
Current price for Brit premium is less than rm80 for 8kg. which is rm10/kg. It used to be rm110 per bag several years ago.

One thing that bothers me is all of their kibble packaging (big size) have 'holes' below, to release air. Means it is (kinda)exposed to outside air. Brit, brit care, carnilove all from the same Czech company.

Brit premium salmon (before 2020)

You may think the cat drinks alot of water....

if you can make them eat meals like this, can save you some$$ don't hv to buy 'can food'. They get to consume alot water. Body weight stays in shape.

And pee like no tomorrow. ... so there goes your $$ buying cat litter in tons..

Cos the fler had urethral obstruction, i had to do this, lucky fler is a glutton.. will eat almost anything, eat tofu litter as if it is cat food.. imagine that...

user posted image

This is 5grams of kibble in 60ml of water.
4 times a day, 6 hour interval. total 260ml of water.
pee like no tomorrow. Fler weight 5kg.

Soak the kib in 10ml water for 15mins or more to soften it. Add the rest of warm water later. Mash the kibs to release the flavour, so it is like a broth. Warm water makes it more flavourful. After one month, fler din get any lighter, means calorie is kinda enough..

Thanks for sharing the findings on CR~

Btw, I was reading FB cat forum and saw Urbanwolf being quite highly recommended among the cat owners there.

But I searched here and seems this brand isnt talked about here , not sure why haha...
Urban wolf adventures.

Based on the ingredient list and the price you've posted,
This cat food looks promising.

A search online, can't find any website or any info about this brand except local msia shopee, fb etc, all local online sellers.

Means this food is targeting msia only?
Looks certainly is not an international brand.

If the packaging is only in english, lacking address, it is like CR, and many other brands, where a biz can set-up a brand name, get the food manufactured from 'somewhere' and receive in bulk and pack it locally to sell.

The big packaging, is a sticker paste on the silver bag, kinda confirms this.
You wont find international brand package their product like this.

Reflex cat food is a Turkish brand, and made in Turkey.

On their website, they have listed their Hq and factory address.

https://www.reflexmama.com/contact

They understand, to sell globally, consumers wants transparency.

Funny how the cheaper food has less carb percentage albeit the ingredients not so good.
*
7 major essential nutriens.

You have to minus the moisture/water percentage to get the Carb percentage.

The cheaper has lower carb bcos it has higher fat.

The ingredient ' animal fat' is a very low cost ingredient.

" The problem with ambiguous terms like 'animal fats' or 'animal oils' is that they could refer to literally any fat of any quality from any animal. This allows the manufacturer to alter the recipe between batches depending on what fats are cheaper at the time. As always, we recommend looking for foods where the sources of the fats and oils are clearly stated."

*
Yes, when it was ' no more transparent bag' tht is when they don't poke holes on the sides.

No holes version, is no air from inside goin out, outside air can't go inside as well.

It is not the type where they vacuum the air from inside then seal it shut.

I even wrote to totw and they replied...

protein frm bugs...

This coming frm nestle... LOL

The fact is human is never goin to stop consume meat, and the extras coming frm the meat industry is going to the pet food industry.

So at the moment, the pet food industry is not having shortage of 'protein' source.

Hi all, any good vet for spaying/neutering my cat in KL/Cheras/PJ area?
Thanks
*
I rekemen preventicare.

The clinic specialised in spaying + neutering dog + cats @ very reasonable price.

Well known among animal recuers/ ngo. In klang valley

Pre book required. via watsap.

It is not the 'normal' cozy neighbour hood vet clinic.
Please do not make unreasonable complains.
Please do not walk- in!
Do not bring your cat/dog there for other treatment !

There are 'tons' of vet clinics in klang valley.

PREVENTICARE Veterinary Clinic
G, 15, Jalan 1/114, Kuchai Business Centre, 58200 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur
011-1132 8113
https://maps.app.goo.gl/tzvvv7pyK1SBJfj8A

Example below.
Didn't do proper research , then blamed the clinic.

After 11am. Dr, will start 'operation', can't stop the operation halfway to attend to your case...

gate, wall, any barrier with 'open top' is not gonna stop a determined cat.

but for the balcony case, if there is a grill on the door to balcony, can tie these net on the grill, and leave the door open.

These hdpe/plastic net is not that strong, can easily rip using hand. For a cat who knows how to rip using its mouth, these plastic net is easy for them. So a metal net is needed.

Hi guys. Need some advice.

On September, I picked up a 1-2 month old kitten from outside my condo. Seems to have lost/separated from the mother. So my husband and I adopted it, dewormed, vaccinated and waiting for spay. She is healthy now.

So, the problem is my kitten seem a bit aggressive with us, she doesn't like to be touched and will bite/scratch when we try to pet her. We can only pet her when she is sleeping. We provide alot of toys for her and also a cat tree, we doesn't cage her, she is free to roam around the house. We thought she might be lonely and maybe things will improve when she have a companion.

So.... I brought her to a pet hotel (my brother in law manages the outlet) and tried to let her interact with other cats, she hisses and want to fight them. Is this normal? I thought of adopting another cat/kitten as a companion but looking at how she wants to fight other cat, I am not so sure anymore.
*
Some cats are very sensitive. Will only allow you to touch the head and under the chin. With lots of training, can improve the behaviour. Since it is still kitten, must start to train right away, and don't allow her to dominate you.

Hiss at other cats is very common. Once they meet the stranger cat everyday, eventually will accept the fler. But no gurantee will become good friends, but can live together. Maybe one cat will bully the other by biting etc, so you have to observe them well.

Cat reaches adulthood at 12 months right?

For common house cat breed, typically need to spend how much a year for these?

1. Dry food
2. Wet food
3. Litter
4. Deworming
5. Vaccination
6. Grooming (if I let pet shop handle it)
7. Neutering (one off cost how much?)

Any other expenses I miss out? Advice appreciated. Thanks!

Also, I read that toilet-training is actually not encouraged for cats? Something something about stretching their agility too much and our sewerage and treatment is not made for cat feces, which will disrupt the treatment process and microbes ecology.
*
You can easily get these info by searching online, shopee, call your nearest vet.
All these cost varies. From really cheap tesco food to very expensive imported food, home cooked food, raw food etc.
Is like you wana eat maggi mee or dine @ 5star hotel every day? smile.gif

Litter, somany types of litter, all diff price. Eventually you will settle for the type that you and your cat likes. Win win for both.

Vet fees, varies with clinics, there are gov clinics, tht offers vac.

Kampong cat short hair, dont need grooming. You can brush the coat if you like.

Neutering, from below rm100 to above 100.

What do you mean by toilet training??

I have read about the cat poo should not be flushed into toilet, but did not study further. Need to check...

sad sad sad.

there's a stray mummy cat with her 2 kitten which i have been keeping in a room since the mummy delivered. now already 4 months, given first vaccine today and thought they can join my other home cats.

as a precaution before mingling, i have FIV and FIP test for the mummy. FIV aka aids, FIP aka feline cobis. tested positive. sigh. now they for sure cannot mingle with my other cats. after so many months in room, i thought can finally grant them freedom. but now plan on hold again zzzz.

wondering if i should release them back outside, let them enjoy the outside world with their remaining lifespan or not. problem is one of the kitten is 80% blind and will be hard for her outside.
*
According to this, there is no accurate test for FIP.

https://pets.webmd.com/cats/cat-fip-feline-...peritonitis#2-4

The common combo test here is for FIV FELV.

user posted image

Fiv +ve cats doesnt need to be isolated frm other cats as long as they dont fight.

Ive taken care of a male fiv cat (cos always fight outside)
he lived til 13+ years. Test done when he's 5-6 yo.

If young kitten tested +ve for felv, then high chance they won't make it pass one year old. Just observed one case recently.

Is it true cat poo cannot be flushed down our toilet? First time im hearing this, i do it all the time since im using flushable tofu litter huhuu
*
I have searched,.. again..

but, coudn't find any warning from any gov agencies asking ppl not to flush cat poo (just cat poo without litter).

Instead, all those are repeated by bloggers, articles from websites etc.

One major concern is toxoplasmosis.

Thing is, if you read about this toxoplasmosis is detail,
not all cats have toxo. Infected cats don't shed this in their poo the entire life.

Two.
cat poo is damn hard like batu, it may clog your pipes.

And I have found this news, saying in australia,
this city council ask ppl to flush cat n dog poo instead of throwing in the garbage BCOS their sewage plant can handle/ kill the pathogens.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-80...utting-bin.html

Mebe we can write to Indah water and c what those smart ppl reply.

Tofu litter breaks up in water into suspension - like susu,
the solid in human poo are much bigger+ coarser ....

According to research, normal sewage treatment cant kill toxo parasites..

These are vet charges - clinic in klang valley.

user posted image

Spay rm180... expensive?
then can go to the clinic i mentioned earlier, the suture wound is top notch.
Drontal rm10. u can buy diy for rm7 or less.

4in 1 vaccine. normally is rm 45.
For 4in1, make sure is adjuvant free/non-adjuvanted.
ie - purevax frm merial the green colour label,
Felocell 4 - zoetis/pfizer.

For felv, only purevax is adjuvant free, leukocell2 is not.

it is a challenge for vets to inject @ tail or legs,
cos the area there the skin fold is less, have to be very careful, very likely kena tissue, cat will feel pain.
most cat is uncoorperative, dont like ppl to handle the tail + legs...

We are customers/clients, it is not wrong to insist. Talk to them nicely.

This is not about how to hold syringe etc.

This is about the 'LIFE' of your 'precious' furries, babies, son and dotters!

Although rare, cancer on the injection site is 'REAL' for cats.
Many doesn't know of course.

1 to 10 cats out of 10,000 injected cats will kena.

Feline injection site sarcoma

New recommended injection site is not done, to main-main or suka-suka.

The vet fees nowadays is not cheap, they have to improve their skill and knowledge.

It is not gov clinic rm 1 for treatment.

Some older/old flers are more lansi la, therefore , should go checkout a few other clinics, esp those stay in the klang valley.

Many clinics, ive already lost count. Not like last time, only a few 'famous' ones.
