the cat is not that clever to jump in because of the door is close.
we try to open the door also same. she afraid to jump in
endup sometimes before i go to work i paksa him shit inside .. but everytime need to do that .. then she berak at lantai toilet

when i present back the old litter box she prefer back the old one.
smart sift for her is like close version. she dont care about privacy. lol
*
Yeah. If your cat don't want what to do. I would suggest you to leave the smart sift there along with the regular litter box. Who knows, maybe your cat eventually learn how to use it. First time using the smart sift, my cats also don't want to use it. I just leave it along with regular litter boxes. Eventually they learned how to use it.

Btw, Regarding litter, in addition to regular clumping sand litter, I also use tofu based clumping litter. In my opinion it less dusty & you can flush it.

There's a new shop open in my area. It offer variety of brands that are not manufactured from Thailand.
- The ORIGIN kitten formula doesn't contain gel or gelling agent but the adult Chicken Tuna contain thin layer of gel or gelling agent on top.
- What worry me with ORIGIN is it said it used food colouring.

My regular shop that I usually go to recently promoted this cat food Tenten RM70/8kg. The package however didn't list the factory where it manufactured.

thx for sharing. keep it up biggrin.gif

that origin  n tenten.. cat food... i suspect is frm thai or vietnam, some drý pet food could also be frm china nowadays...

but tenten's ingredient list is too impressive, not sure to believe it ornot... LOL...

at rm8.75 per kg, it beats all supermarket brand?

first 4 ingredient is of animal origin ( not sure if they follow the order list by weight rule ), surpass other famous brands..  biggrin.gif

too good to be true... i want to believe..
*
The origin is manufactured in Indonesia. For the Tenten, the failure to print factory address/information already make me want to avoid it. And yes the price is too cheap considering the ingredient they use. Absolutely avoid it.

QUOTE(basilisk @ Apr 27 2019, 05:58 PM)
tofu cat litter, not sure first originated from which country, china ? japan? korea?

those available in the market today are all oem from china.

marketed as made from tofu, or is it more correctly soy by products from the process of making tofu ???  biggrin.gif

corn starch is added to make the clumping possible.

the plus point apart from produced from natural plant based source,

when added to alot of water, it mixed into a suspension, making it ideal for flushing down the toilet.

still kinda pricey, but can find sellers online selling for less than rm16 per bag.

that is almost the same price as some clay litter, like multicat.

hopefully price will go down even further in the future..

*
I bought mine RM15 per bag.

You don't want urine to be more acidic. It can increase the possibility of calcium oxalate crystals or stone formation in your pet urinary tract. Ideally you want diluted, less concentrated urine. This is where the drink enough water come from. By drinking enough water, it dilute waste in your pet urine & this can make crystals/stone hard to form. Diluted urine not only make getting rid waste much better but also any bacteria like E. Coli that can cause UTI.

If any dry food claimed FLUTD prevention, take it with grain of salt. If I remember correctly from an article, they add sodium to get pet drink more water. However sodium is an ingredient in salt which we try to avoid in pet food. So actually they don't prevent anything.

I have two outdoor cats that got FLUTD but both recovered with change in diet. Their diets are kibbles & small animal. Well I assumed they do hunt. They both gone now unrelated to flutd.

So far no cats in my care that their diet 100% canned food, get flutd.

So far a couple of cats in my care that their diet is moistened food (kibbles + canned food mixed), got FLUTD but all recovered with medicine. Looks like it is only crystals because they all are not completely blocked.

So far more than a couple of cats in my care that their diet is kibbles, got FLUTD & died. All of them completely blocked. My vet did perform "emergency discharge" & prescribe medicine but all not survived.

QUOTE(Shinka @ May 1 2019, 11:46 AM)
just wondering, those cats that got FLUTD on kibbles, what brand were you using? Certain brands such as friskies contain high levels of sodium and colouring I think.
*
It doesn't matter what brands. As long as your cat main diet is dry food + less drinking water, your cat have a risk to get FLUTD. Even some people who feed their cats with Greens cat food also have FLUTD problem with their cats. I use same brand for all of my cats but only a few cats have FLUTD. I can't afford premium brands because I need to buy in 10kg. Originally I feed my cats Kiska, no problem there. Then I changed to Visscay, the no color at first if I remember correctly but then the coloured ones (for some reason). My cats grew old by this time 2++ years & this is when one of my cats got FLUTD. After a couple of cases of FLUTD I started portioned their food, no more free feeding. Then changed to Prodiet because I noticed they eat more than they should with visscay. But after Prodiet stop selling 8+1 kg, I go back to Kiska & now back to Visscay (no colour/neutral colour). The only premium cat food I have ever feed my cats is Royal Canin for Persian cats because it doesn't have corn or nonsense in it.

Saying your cats going to get FLUTD if feed with certain brands is not correct. Also saying feeding with dry food your cat will get FLUTD also not correct. The difference between cats with dry food vs wet food is the latter have very low risk to get FLUTD because FLUTD can be caused by many things. Universal FLUTD prevention is water. I have more than one water bowl for my cats, different sizes & shaped too. There are two types of water I use; Reverse Osmosis water & filtered tap water. I also leave my tap water flow slowly because some of my cats like to drink from it.

For water bowls, some I use lead-free ceramic bowls while the rest are plastic. For plastic, DEHP/plasticizer leaching into water should not be a problem because we change water daily. Cancer take times/years to develop, so who knows. Avoid metal type bowl unless they are made of brass because brass doesn't rust.

If your cats always like to drink a lot of water, you're very lucky. In my experience, some of my cats like to drink a lot of water but not all of them remain like that when they grow old (2++ years).

I use Happytail Stains And Odor Removal. It doesn't stop cat from spraying that place again unfortunately but very good in removing odor & stains. Just need to wipe, spray & wipe again. Also good on carpet too but you'll need to spray a lot more until it penetrate the carpet & let it air dry. If there is excess urine, you'll still need to remove it using paper towel as much as you can before spraying. You can use water in between though if you want to. Basically on carpet; remove excess urine using paper towel, then saturated the contaminated area with water, remove excess water using paper towel, then spray Happytail until it penetrated the carpet & finally let it air dry.

If I forgot to buy I use 50:50 mixture of apple cider vinegar & water. Same procedure; wipe, spray & wipe again.

If the cat survived, it already immune to the virus for any further infections. Vaccination no longer needed. However if you're going to add cat in the environment, you'll need to vaccinate them beforehand.

These are some of the food I tried & I like. It is small can, suitable if you're feeding to sick cats. Small amount of gel/gelling.

Treats + vitamin supplement. The "stick" type treats, cats takes time to get used to it. Same with the vitamin supplement. I just put it together with kibbles.

Hi. I got 2 cat. MJ and SITI. Both 4 years old female. They never seperate. But last week siti stay at vet. About 1 weeks. Now MJ very garang to siti. Always sembur2. Its normal? Its because siti smell different after stay at the vet?
*
Most likely. Some cats show this behavior while some other cats are the opposite. The latter usually get along well with "stranger" pets/people. Don't worry they will get along again, just needs time. If they become physical, you should consider temporarily separate them but make sure they still can smell each other.

saw tis local lady post on ig, she feed raw including beef, pork , organs etc...

I tried feed my cats with raw minced beef meet a couple times. Some did eat while other refused. Also I found they like the ones frozen (not minced) over the ones from pasar malam. Of course the frozen beef meat, I thawed it first & cut it myself. I feed 30g of beef meat for a cat. I just average my cat's weight to 3kg.

BTW, you use dehumidifier or similar right? I don't know what it called, the ones that taking care of dust & cat's fur. I think it was you if I'm not mistaken. I have a couple of questions.

This is my personal experience on bringing my cats to a government vet hospital for vaccination and spay surgery. I hope that it can help people as finding articles on government vet clinic or hospital is diffcult. This place is Hospital Veterinar Cheras/ Wilayah Persekutuan. The operating hours are only on weekdays and working hours can be short, but the fees here are cheaper than if I were to go to a private vet to have their treatment done. This will be beneficial to those having a few pets and are worried of the cost will add up and be a burden. Pet treatment like vaccination, spay and neuter, microchip and any procedures are slightly more affordable here. Especially those with many cats, where the cost will add up to a big amount. Hope my entry about bringing my cats to government vet will help those that struggle with the costs.

Yeah, private can be very expensive to most people. The low cost at gov clinic definitely helps. All my cats are neutered at gov clinic. However, they usually lack of equipments like for running test (blood, urine, etc). Probably at HQ but not at district branches.

The deworming pill Drontal Plus, u can buy yourself @ RM5 each, that is the cheapest that you can get.
so RM5 + RM40 = RM45. which is equal to the jabatan veterinar charge.
*
Drontal Plus. I was looking for deworming pill. Thanks.

Some clinic in klang valley, that support TNR, do offer lower spaying/neutering fees, to encourage ppl to neuter/spay cats n dogs,
for cats spay = rm90, neuter RM70, this is the cheapest one can find.
*
Good to hear that some private clinic that support TNR offer low price for neutering. The Kerian district veterinary clinic that I usually go charged 50 for male & 80 for female. But I don't know whether they are TNR-friendly or not. At most I have made appointment for two cats for neutering on the same day three times without any problem.

QUOTE(basilisk @ Jul 20 2019, 05:05 PM)
another difference is, the jabatan veterinar still 'insists' ? cats n dogs to be vaccinated first at least 2 times? before spaying/neutering.
*
Not at my place. They may reject if kitty is too small or younger than 8 months old. It's more like the size than age.

I use PawMark Pinewood which is 9kg in big bag, bigger than 10L sand litter bag. They cost more but last longer. The ones in smaller bag usually pallets are smaller.

Basilisk, the darker color or black color because they mixed with charcoal.

I see. Probably mix like you said.

BTW, a kitten run across the street to my house. Looks really hungry because he ate the cat food that I left in front of the house for a neighbourhood cat. His whisker has been cut all of them likely to prevent him from finding a way home.

It is bad times nowadays since someone in high position said it is OK to throw cat away.

Whiskers work as antenna/radar finding a way back to home? Myth or real?
*
It is common believe of many people. That's why some people do this.

There have been a couple of cases, real cases, cats managed to find their human parents (moved) hundreds km away. One case a cat was surrendered but managed to escaped & found way home but only to be sent to vet to be euthanized. Don't worry this cat have happy ending.

I think it is more of smell & sound sensors, like dog, for cat to get their bearings. I don't know to what extent Whiskers helps. Do you know there is whisker above both of their eyes? Also some on their cheeks. I only know they helped cats moving through obstacles especially when hunting. That's why blind cats can move without help.
