thinking of getting my tongue pierced. is it painful?? how long does it take to heal? any recommended professional in penang?
need advice from you people

Heya! I'm from Sabah and I had my tongue done in Sabah. But now I'm living in KL and thinking of getting it redone here, sometime soon XD. I had to take it out for... reasons, but now I regret and I miss it so much! Haa, anyway...
Getting a tongue piercing is not THAT much of a big deal. Hehe. But of course, you're gonna feel all of the jitters and tummy flippy-flops when getting it! But when it's done, BAM! You're gonna feel awesome.
In terms of pain and healing time, everyone's different. So it may be feel like nothing to you but a slow stab to somebody else. The same goes with the healing period. Some people take longer than others, it's just how their bodies are. Genetically. Treating your piercing and body right and well would help a lot. Sleep early, eat well (everyone's different, but take it slow. Generally, no solid foods, no hot and spicy foods, room temperature foods, foods that you wouldn't have to chew so much... you're gonna be a baby again! =D. I hear that seafood and eggs give you bad reactions during the healing process.... so steer clear of those if you can. I did, hehe. Ah! Cold foods! Cold foods like ice cream, frozen yogurt or regular yogurts and whatevers will be your best friends during the first few days of tongue piercing ownership!), take vitamin supplements and gargle with warm diluted salt water (just a little salt, don't overdo it). It seems to help better than non-alcoholic mouthwash. Gargle after every meal, snack, whatever you put in your mouth. No kissing, no oral sex... just keep it clean! Don't touch your mouth or tongue to anything dirty, even if it seems clean and also, DON'T TOUCH IT! Or play with it.... yet ;-). It's tempting but wait till it heals. Which would take a week or so. 2 weeks or more if you treat it like crap. Eat slowly too! And get your tongue pierced with a longer than usual barbell to accomodate the swelling. This is a MUST! You can switch to a shorter one after the swelling goes down. You'll be talking funny too. Don't talk too much if it hurts, only when necessary because it'll make the swelling worse. Well, at least for me.
Ahhh... what else... what else.... do your research. As much as possible. Get all the information you can, it'll really come in handy for you.
I don't know any reputable piercers in Penang. Not in KL either... but 2 out of 3 ain't bad! Good luck hunting for a good place! And be as picky as possible. Don't be afraid to be b****y (but of course, don't piss anyone off too) because back in Sabah when I had my tongue done, I was SO desperate I settled for a shady-looking tattoo parlour. The guy at the counter who couldn't answer any of my questions! Told me that the piercer pierces tongues everyday, nothing to worry about. I know this isn't America, but the person at the counter should be friendly and be able to answer your questions. Same goes for the piercer. Anyways, long story short for me and you =).... bad piercer, bad placing = bad piercing.
It was all right, just all right. But I eventually had to take it out ='(.
Good luck!
P.S: If your piercer can scan and examine your tongue to check for nerves and veins and if to determine if your tongue is suitable for a piercing, that'd be AWESOME. A-n-d! Lots of people are gonna say and tell you that it doesn't hurt, but it did for me! And like I've said before, everyone's different =). Don't be afraid to walk or run out from the shop the moment you feel something isn't right. Trust your instincts, cheesy line coming, but better safe than sorry.
P.P.S: Sorry for such an extended post, but I got excited. I absolutely love piercings. On the right people, and for the right reasons =).
