hi guys, quick question here, i wanna OC my Sapphire R7 250X, and so far i just up around =
GPU Clock = 965mhz
High Performance Memory Clock = 1165mhz
and i`ve furmark on both 1080 and 720 for like a minute and it stays around 72 celcius Caps. So my question here is, how do i know its the max OC for my GPU and also what is the function for power limit settings and how to use it. Thanks ! (Using AMD Catalyst)
*
OC until there's artifact in games or facing freezes.

But if you got moolah then go upgrade GPU better hahhah.

My first GPU is S3 Savage 4 8MB + Pentium 3 533Mhz. Then I upgraded it to Geforce 2 MX 400. That Geforce 2 MX 400 was my last Nvidia card. Every card after that is Radeon simply because of price/performance ratio after that, not brand agnostic laugh.gif

After I got myself ATI 9800 Pro, the 6600GT came out, I'm so jealous of 6600GT that time sweat.gif

Guys, Im currently owning 680, just wonder is there any big difference/upgrade to 970? Wish to play max setting @ 1080p for GTA V.
*
Not big jump, if you have 680 must at least aim for 980. That'll be 2 steps performance upgrade.

If what is said be unseen83 is true, more than 3840x2160 will be severely affected by the memory bug then I will be royally pissed with the 2 x GTX 970 I got.
Im using a 4320x2560 resolution monitor to play games and the reason I got 2 of the 970 is so it can have enough processing power to run, but it will now be severely handicapped because of very slow memory access. And you know when you play games at >4K Resolution, high speed memory is very important.  Nvidia should refund all of us for misleading info. The issue wont be so bad if the memory architecture remained the same as the GTX980 And only cut 3 out of 16SP.
*
Then you should lower the texture settings in the game to make sure you never use more than 3.5GB VRAM. Also don't use MSAA because it eats up VRAM as well. As long as it is under 3.5GB VRAM usage it is fine.

cool like silly, so tempting to spend RM 1649 on it!

The looks alone already make it nicer than the rest. When you hold it, it's rock solid. I had so much fun overclocking that baby and I'm surprised to see I get 10 fps gain from the overclock without trying too hard.

Rarely I come across any card that even allows one to overclock much, let alone gain 5fps.
*
RM1649....

Better spend RM2000 straight for GTX 980, better future proofing as it have no VRAM problems and actually have higher memory bandwidth.

GTX 970 is overated if it is priced too near GTX 980. From RM1099 till RM1649. Better get the cheaper range GTX 970.

you know, there are people who pay $$$ to get stuff that looks good and OCs kau kau to be top of the 3Dmark list and such.

This is the card that you pay and get good stuff.

You can look at those RM 1,499 GTX 970 that's already ridiculously priced - those types you get great heatsink but no guarantee to OC well. Power draw is also limited.

Personally I wouldn't recommend this to the average consumer either BUT it's a great card and only a niche group of people will consider it.
*
But no matter how much you overclock the GTX 970, it still can't beat overclocked GTX 980 sweat.gif

Take a look on the Unigine Heaven's benchmark for example, an overclocked reference GTX980 can break 1900 points on 1080p, while 1577Mhz GTX 970 just slightly passed 1600. That's a huge difference worth the extra investment. Don't forget that GTX 980 have full 4GB VRAM access too.

Even the vanilla 780 launched at > 2k price point, I recall paying 2199 (or was it 2099) for the Zotac 780 reference back in 2013 (first week launch). Others brands were typically priced higher.
*
The GTX 780 launched at $650 MSRP while GTX 980 was $550, but 780's time it's 3.2+ ringgit per usd lor heh.

i think if they did release a 980 Ti, itll take over previous 780 Ti price point when it first released

Definitely it will be more expensive, that's for sure.
Rumors circulating on the Titan replacement suggest higher pricing than the original USD1K.

And talking on computer components pricing here, it's started to inch higher and higher now due to the weak ringgit.
*
If AMD is late then Nvidia will price it high. If both comes out same time then the price will be more competitive.

play dota 2 enable DSR 4.00x native resolution 3840 x 2160 with 33% smoothness on my 1080p monitor will cause the game shuttering badly.

dota 2 is not a really demanding game also perform so SUX!
*
of course it would, GTX 960 can't even maintain 120fps on dota 2 1080p...

GTX 970 just passed that mark. If you make it 4K then lol

1st time start watchdogs got coil whine with GTX 970 but after i edited the below setting the coil whine gone.

VSync 2 frames
GPU Max Buffered Frames 5
Texture Ultra
Anti-Aliasing TXAA x4

everything ultra graphics quality but NVIDIA control panel grayed out ambient occlusion & there's the option for ambient occlusion in the game setting which i set to HBAO+ High. damn weird hmm.gif
*
Is the coil whine really loud?

By the time the graphics card breakdown, it's time for upgrade anyways haha

Even the normal warranty period is like 2 to 3 years now.

Just look at the titan/780/780ti/980 cooler.

It looks good. It reaffirms before you test it out atleast " Money Well Spent" kindda feeling.

Its the same as going to Massage Parlor ahem getting a HJ for RM50 from Pro Auntie and going to another with Miss Universe for RM150.
So if this anecdote is simple.. why isnt buying gpu the same..
ATI is the former while Nvidia is the later

Look at phones. Apple led in the beginning with design and ask for a premium and still do lol... Android came in with crappy looking phones. Phones now are packaged like iphones. Android kicked apple butt. No more bulky huge boxes.

Its one of the reasons why EVGA / Asus excels at for a long time and now even their low/mid end etc all gets good packaging. Gaygay ( Actually got a warning in OCN for calling gigabyte Gaygay..) has totally revamped itself realizing this. Ppl will pay for it.

Spending money for design and packaging matters.

In that respect i will still recommend the 970 over 290x any day.

btw the full maxwell has a lot of work to do to satisfy the enthusiast level. Everybody is waiting for 4k to be dominated with dual cards at min 60fps with everything turned up. This is no small feat.

Current offerings overclock does it for 1440p. ure gonna need 2.25x the performance of these cards to achieve that. Thats no joke.

signing off.. Gee posted a lot today while waiting for waifu at airport. But this the whole hearted truth on how i feel about ati.
You know the feeling you tell ureself you will never want to be conned/scam again.... thats the reason why i dont buy ati anymore and i doubt they will change.
*
But still 290X CF and 980 SLI is quite equal in 4K gaming

AMD likes to show off brute gpu power where Nvidia try to reduce power consumption, trust me my electricity bill is different when i started using gtx970
*
My electricity bill is not bad after switching to seasonic power supplies.

I turn on my pc from 8am till 1am. And still have one more desktop running HD5830.

Monthly only RM87 bill. This includes 2 fridges and all other household electrical appliances for 4 people. Just no aircon.

Just need to remember AMD's TDP is always overstated, while Nvidia's is terbalik laugh.gif

I thought laptop and desktop monitor runs on different standard.

Even AMD showcases Free Sync on laptop first

I meant both probably have the same way to run. Maybe laptops don't really need hardware modification like the modules needed for desktop monitors.

Pair it with 144Hz monitor = constant low lag play. Kind of must have for high mmr players. Imagine slow downs during big teamfights.

yup just ordered mine guess will arrive late CNY belum habis  cry.gif , i play mainly on 1080p so i guess 960 is enuf for me for now, just have to wait for upcoming fully baked maxwell's  thumbup.gif .

No offence to amd owners 290x is certainly a good buy if compared to gtx970 in terms of memory size and brute force  notworthy.gif  , i have used that card keeps getting too hot until rma, bought a 970 nggredia con me 500mb of vram (terus kansel plan to buy higher res monitor), since now stuck at 1080p might just buy a 960.
*
Why not just use the GTX 970?
Can tone down the texture settings to avoid using over 3.5GB to the affected games.
At least can hold until the next gen high end comes out.
