using 14.12 right now download 15.4 but haven use yet cuz of the beta laggy only when driving cars i also dunno why
*
You need to install at least 15.4 for GTA:V but i suggest download the latest 15.5.
If you want the best performer, beta driver is the way to go.

so.. prototype r9 390x is slower than GTX 980 Ti...

I take this with a grain of salt but if it's true, their long hype flagship is slower than a crippled flagship from Nvidia and Intel's new flagship iGPU destroyed their best APU in graphic performance.

What next? ph34r.gif

nVidia is so competitive that when they saw that AMD could release a card that would kill the Titan X, they created their own Titan slayer  biggrin.gif
*
It slayed Titan-X in term of price/performance only. Titan-X still the king.

Anyway i heard about Radeon Fury VR which is a dual GPU card of Fiji XT. I hope you don't need LN2 to keep it cool.

it doesnt mean anything if the card is more powerful yet no one want to buy it.  doh.gif

You didn't state it in you previous post. tongue.gif

well if its true, AMD will be doomed... but IMO, the early released of 980ti with titan X performance along with that amazing price looks kinda fishy.. seems like Nvidia was making 'desperate' moved.. feels like they afraid of something..  hmm.gif
*
Ya mang, the card feel abit "rushed". Maybe they have another one coming.

Well, this is quite surprising.  So that most people thought that AMD gpu have better DX12 support, it turns out no.  The maxwell chip actually have better DX12 feature.

Is it important though?

I don't know.  People been saying about how good mantle is for AMD and gaming.  And how Mantle 'push' Microsoft for DX12 development.  And also got people say that DX12 is almost similar to Mantle.  I find it quite irony.

If DX12 is not important, then why people screaming at MS who abandoning DX development all this while?
*
No, i meant the feature level 12_1.
user posted image
This is Maxwell v2 only specific features atm and only Volume Tiled Resource will benefit in gaming(or not).

Obviously Mantle already did the job since DX12 is a low level API and feature level 12_0 is what really important for gaming.

QUOTE(JohnLai @ Jun 6 2015, 11:05 AM)
Mantle 'push' Microsoft? No such thing.
DX12 is already in development long before AMD announced its Mantle initiative.
Beside, the so called Mantle low level is kinda useless because Catalyst driver cpu overhead.

DX development doesn't take one year to finish, it takes several years for testing suitability, acceptability and feasibility.
I think Mantle kinda rushed to the market. If you take a look on the mantle documentation, it is kinda......messy and feel rushed.
Really wonder how DICE is able to use the mantle renderer.

Mantle is destined for failure in first place.
Reason, AMD has somehow low discrete gpu market share.
For console argument;
PS4 dev tool uses PlayStation Shader Language (PSSL).
Xbox One on the other hand uses DirectX HLSL with dx 11.2 API.

We don't expect Sony to support mantle or microsoft to use its competitors API, no?

Reason for people saying some documentation from mantle is similar to dx12 documentation?
Simple, AMD contributed some of the code to Microsoft to review and included in DX12. It is not copying.
*
Is there any documentation about DX12 being low level API before Mantle even existed?

So 390x is a beefed up 290x with 8gb gddr5 n higher speed mem
Same as titan x is to a 980.

N fury is a hbm version of 390.

So question
Is fury or fury x??
*
390x/390 is probably just a GCN1.2/GCN1.3 rev of the Hawaii family hence why they both a new codename Grenada XT/Grenada Pro similar to R9-280 vs R9-285.

Spoken too soon, there's a leaked on Asus 390x and it look like a direct rebadged with +30mhz core, +250mhz mem and +4GB VRAM. Not sure why their codename is Grenada though if this simply a rebadge.

With all the technology they have screwed up drivers just brings it down, they are concentrating too much on consoles hence the screwed drivers

They only manufacturesdesigned custom chips for the consoles, nothing else.

QUOTE(JohnLai @ Jun 6 2015, 03:12 PM)
http://techreport.com/review/26239/a-close...k-at-directx-12

Reading first page is sufficient.
DX12 was designed as low level API in first place because many AAA game developers are asking for it.
Because DX12 development takes too long, AMD steps in and promote its version of low level api Mantle.
*
Had to take that with a grain of salt sice there's no documentation/hard evidence.

One guy claimed
QUOTE
"engineers at Microsoft and GPU manufacturers have been working at this for some time," and he added that D3D12 was "designed closely with game developers."
GPU manufacturers or only Nvidia? If AMD was really involved, they won't waste millions to create Mantle API and Huddy don't need to go bananas about DX11 overhead before he left AMD to joined Intel in 2011.

2nd guy claimed
QUOTE
AMD shared its work on Mantle with Microsoft "from day one" and that parts of Direct3D 12 are "very similar" to AMD's API. I asked if D3D12's development had begun before Mantle's. Corpus' answer: "Not that we know."
I think this guy is smoking but we all can agree that there's parts of Mantle API used in DX12.

Then the 3rd guy claimed
QUOTE
He told me D3D12 had been in in the works for "more than three years" (longer than Mantle) and that "everyone" had been involved in its development.
According to this guy "everyone" was involved but only MS and NV is not smoking, also DX12 already in the work at least 5 years ago but Keplers and 1st gen Maxwell only get Feature Level 11_0? What a dick.

The bad news if the rumour is to believed, nvidia already in taped-out status for its Pascal microarchitecture......

On AMD roadmap = HBM v2 with double memory size and bandwidth........ where is roadmap for upcoming GCN itself after Fiji? We know upcoming Fiji will based on GCN 1.2.......

Guys, there was rumour floating around mentioning the upcoming Grenada etc will be manufactured by GlobalFoundry instead of TSMC.
Any opinion on this?

I read they taped out the big guns instead of smaller chip like GK104/GM204. Maybe it's for another super computer? hmm.gif

IMHO 4K is overkill on such size - I think LG should offer a 1440p option as well. tongue.gif

Update from Alienware twitter on reportedly R9 370X??

Sigh, how nice if it was a single slot card with full shroud like reference GeForce 8800 GT

R9-370 OEM. http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/desktop/oem
Basically a R9-270/HD7870.
QUOTE(TheHitman47 @ Jun 10 2015, 12:54 AM)
for the lazy, i do the rough convertion based on google

-snip-

from history, our pricing arent really much different maybe more 30-40?
looking at R9 390x, it looks too good to be true.
but looking at the low 370, arent that the same price as the when 270 comes out?.

btw this is for ref gpu right?, could be higher due to 3rd party design.
*
Meh, if the card perform similar or better than a 970 our lovely distributor will price it higher than a 970.

1024 SP, it is HD7850. I guess that is right since HD7870 actually uses 2 6 pin PCI-E slots (180w TDP) while HD7850 is 150w TDP IINM.
*
Dang, i didn't checked the SP count.

If this rumored spec is true, seem like R7-370 will be a rebrand of R9-265 and that mean the old 7850 will be both R7 and R9 this year. doh.gif doh.gif

My thought
1. That will be a nice backplate if there is no god damn sticker on it. sweat.gif
2. A little bit concern about air cooled Fury since most heat will be concentrated on that interposer.
3. Led lit "Radeon". wub.gif
4. Don't think any game will take advantage of that HBM Ram at the moment.
5. Can't wait to see the cut down Fiji perform.
