Is the i7-4790k compatible with the first mobo? (Asrock B85M-HDS) because im thinking of getting that processor, but sticking with gainward gtx970. Also whats up with the RAM(GSKILL 8GB 1600 CL7), why does it cost RM 100 more than kingston? is it better?  hmm.gif
*
it is compatible, but the K indicate it is a unlocked cpu,
best pair with Z97 or Z87 mobo, so u can utilise the overclocking
if u getting that CPU, i recomend u go for Gigabyte Z97 Sli -RM559

but if u just want for gaming, i doubt u will fully utilize the overclock feature,
because stock speed performance for K version is almost the same with stock speed performance for non-K,
but still choice is urs,

for the RAM, the Gskill CL7 is performance ram,
but it not worth spending on that stuff,
not much different in gaming,
just better go for value ram

Thanks, hmm for overclocking would it be used for video/image rendering programs? since I do 3D modelling. If I won't see a SIGNIFICANT change for the processors, I'll probably stick with the xeon processor.. since I'll have to spend money on getting a more expensive mobo alongside the processor. Also do you guys have any recommendations for monitors? (not sure how much budget would be needed for a monitor, but less than 600 I suppose?).
*
if u doing 3d modelling, yes go for the K version alongside with the Z97/Z87 mobo,
rendering need that xtra juice from the CPU,
another thing u might want to get is CPU cooler,
can get CM hyper 212x RM159, *this can add later

if u insist on high quality color n contrast
Dell 23" S2340L RM655

if not just get
Benq 24" GL2450 (Vesa) RM479

Thanks, and the aftermarket cooler is needed for the i7 or xeon? also for the mobo you recommend Gigabyte Z97 Sli? could you tell me what are the differences between these mobos? because someone else said Z97X Gaming 3/5/7 and someone else recommended Asrock Z97 Extreme 4.
*
i recomend that, because it more cheaper,

but however on the Z97x Gaming 5 and Asrock extreme 4, they do have more feature n better power delivery,
n more stable build,
that is why they cost more

the aftermarket cooler is used on the K series,
they do produce extra heat when under overclocking

Is graphic card necessary for HD movie viewing? if possible want to cut off the graphic card..27 inch monitor is alil bit oversize...a good 24 inch maybe?
*
Dell 24" S2415H RM809,

depends actly, if u want to support multiple monitor, discrete GPU would help,

but this is xeon build, they dont have IGPU,

if dun wan that discrete GPU u might wanna swap the cpu with either

i7-4790 RM1160
or
i5-4440 RM699

xeon is best bang buck so far as it perform the same as i7-4790,
next gen gaming really demanding on cpu,
xeon even smoke all the i5 including the K version in term of gaming,

so yeah,
xeon shud b ur choice over the i5

QUOTE(Kaz3m @ Apr 9 2015, 01:27 AM)
I'm still indecisive about which MOBO to choose for i7-4790k and GTX 970, also which brand to go for... So far I've come up with these:

Asrock Z97 Extreme 4
Gigabyte Z97 Gaming 3/5

or any other good mobos ?

also many people suggest gainward gtx 970, some1 else suggested evga gtx970 sc, any other good GPUs? which one should i go for..?

I still can't decide whether I should get the i7-4790k or just buy xeon v3-1231 e3 and  invest the money in SSD and other peripherals

gosh this is so hard >_>
*
to ease ur problem out,
viewnet seems to be selling asrock Z87 killer at RM419,
get that to pair with i7-4790K,

like SSD, rams n other peripherals that we can just add on,
unlike cpu, if we want to upgrade, we have to swap it, n trash/sell the old ones,

that overclock ability will give u xtra juice n xtra fun,
take this build, ONI IF U R THE TYPE THAT WILL play around with the oc tuning,
that type who will go thru 'leceh' procedure to OC ur cpu,

*i have bunch of fren have that K series cpu, who never ever OC them even they have the aftermarket cooler with the suitable mobo,
giving excuse- 'leceh la' - what a waste

or else xeon 1231 v3 + asrcok H87 performance would do just fine for u

as for the GTX970, for aftermarket cooler, the most making sense in term of pricing is Leadtek GTX970 Hurricane,
u can get it around <RM1300 http://www.lelong.com.my/leadtek-winfast-g...5-12-Sale-P.htm
other aftermarket variant that goes above this price make them ridiculous,

and as for reference cooler variant,
leadtek n gainward variant is the two having fair price.

unfortunately the ram design that i like is hyperx fury ram, and they dont produce 2gb stick for that design. the smallest is 4gb.
*
psstt..bro.. chillaxx..
dual channel 4GBx2 vs single channel 8GB,
the differences it not so obvious in real life gaming,
not worth the hustle finding way to swap it..

soon in the future, even 8GB wont be enuf for normal computing,
so let it b there

Not overkill for DSLR pictures.

basically parents just use skype/ see pictures from our dslr.
i'll be using it once a month - simple edit pictures with Adobe Lightroom

Also, read his post again.
