That should do but I will suggest a H97 instead for which
Another thing is that he also need an OS, so may need to ditch the SSD.

May i know how does the Intel xeon 1231v3 compared with the i5 4690k? thanks alot for ur suggestion!
Thanks alot Human10!

I have another question...i'm wondering if the customizable laptops e.g. illegear/aftershock are worth buying right now? since their GPU performance are already much better compared to previous ones..
*
xeon 1231 v3 is on par with i7-4790, (it is actly i7-4790 with 0.1ghz lower clock speed, with absent of iGPU)
the performance smoke out the i5-4670k even on OC

go for this because next gen gaming really cpu demanding

Pros, need your suggestion on this.

My budget are up to RM3,500. I have a rig that doesn't work well with my 4K TV Display. I don't think i can savage any parts from this rig.

I want to use mainly for playing videos with MaxVR + SVP to play and process videos to 60+ fps at 4K resolution.

I read the recommended SVP system configuration has to be 4 times the configuration below:
CPU - Intel Core i3 or AMD A8, FX 4xxx
GPU - Intel HD4000 or better
more information here

The specification i picked up currently but I feel its a little over-budget.
- MOBO - ASUS H97-PRO GAMER 405 - RM405
- Processor - Core i7-4790K - RM1080
- Graphic - R9270X-DC2T-4GD5 - RM899
- RAM - ADATA XPG GAMING DDR3 2000MHz PC3-16000 4gb x2 - RM280
- PSU - Corsair RM1000 - RM715
- Storage - Samsung 840 EVO 120gb (main) - RM329
- Storage - Seagate Barracuda 2tb (secondary) - RM275

TOTAL: RM3983

Your help is greatly appreciated. BTW I'm newbie in customizing rigs. sweat.gif
*
PSU is too overkill bro!!

Xeon E3-1231 V3 - RM899
Asrock B85M-HDS motherboard - RM249
Kingston 8GB Hyper-X DDR3-1600 - RM249
ZOTAC GTX 970 Reference - RM1164
Liteon 900S 256GB SSD - RM365
WD Blue 1TB hard disk - RM179
Seasonic S12 II Evo 620W power supply - RM279
Thermaltake Versa H25 case - RM129

RM3513

I think I'll go with Xeon E3-1231 instead of the i7. As for the motherboard I'll go with Asrock H97 Pro4 instead of the ASUS H97-PRO GAMER 405.

Still juggling between R9270X-DC2T-4GD5 vs Leadtek GTX970 4GB DDR5 Hurricane, what's the difference?

Just a question, would 500W PSU sufficient for this rig?
*
huge gap on the GPU

GTX970 built to against R9 290 and R9 290X

Hi,

I'm interested in the below spec and planning to get it pretty soon. Hopefully it will fall below 3.3k

1. So, which CPU is better value/performance?
2. Any performance difference between different brand for GPU?

CPU: i5 4670k/4690k or Xeon E3-1231 V3
GPU: GTX970 (Your recommendation)
M/B: Asrock Z97E-ITX or MSI Z97i
RAM: 8gb (Your recommendation)
HDD: Any 1gb/2gb 7200 rpm
PSU: Thermaltake Power Supply Smart SE 630W (SPS-630M)*
Case:Thermaltake Casing iTX CORE V1

*Any recommendation on semi-modular PSU at least 600w
*
QUOTE(Minecrafter @ Mar 28 2015, 04:15 PM)
1.The Xeon E3-1231 V3..not overclockable though.
2.Really tiny. tongue.gif

Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz RM899
Asrock B85M-ITX RM299
Gainward GTX970 4GB GDDR5 RM1099
Kingston Value RAM 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RM219
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM184
Seasonic M12II Evo 520W 80+ Bronze Fully Modular RM279/620W version at Rm359
Noctua NH-L9i RM169
Total:RM3138/3218
CPU Cooler is from IdealTech, the rest are from Viewnet@LYP. smile.gif

Are you going for an ITX setup? It costs a bit more. tongue.gif

Not sure how much the casing costs, haven't heard of it before, plus not sure which shop have it. hmm.gif

Also,520W PSU i suggested is enough for Gtx970.Are you gaming on 1080p?
*
For ts,
better off with CM advandce 120 RM159 or CM advance 110 RM139,
almost same design with the thermaltake,

If want sexier case,
i suggest phanteks evolv itx,
Cut down the cooler

Thanks for the input. I kinda like the small squarish case and it "looks" well ventilated too. Looked into Elite 130 before but the dimension seems bigger. Anyway, seems like 4670k/4690k better if i want to o/clock in future. And yes, mostly for gaming smile.gif
BTW, Asrock m/b any good? The last time i build a rig, there's only gigabyte, asus n msi.

Will try Viewnet later in the day.
*
xeon 1231 v3 will smoke all the i5 even the OCable,
So btter off with the xeon

Yup, asrock is most recomended brand in most thread by sifus here

If elite 130 is big, try elite 110

Thanks for the advice, could you suggest me a cooler for it? also would xeon be troublesome in the long run due to overheating issues etc?

Shud not be a prob even if u use stock cooler if u dun use cpu intensive software (renderings software)

For good budget cooler, can get CM hyper 212x rm149
or scythe katana 4 RM89

Hi guys,

Just came back from Lowyat. Really crowded today and viewnet even run out of cpu.
Got the best quote from Jayacom for the specs i wanted at 3.5k w/out the case which is over my budget. Guess i'll change to xeon + m/b to H97Ā  or similar will be cheaper i think. However, the seller suggested taking at least 600w PSU for better stability as 520w would be minimum requirement.

Thanks for all your suggestion.
*
if that case, u have two option,
1) buy diffrent component from diffrent shops that offer cheapest price for each component

2) refine the build -for this u might end with normal size casing

Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz RM899
MSI B85M-E33 -RM219
Palit GTX970 RM1279
Kingston Value RAM 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RM219
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM184
Corsair CXM 600W -RM295
Thermaltake H25 -RM129

RM3224 (Jayacom)

*seems cant find xeon in jayacom pricelist
*above pricelist is just a guide, if ur budget sufficient, get better MOBO

600W?Even a good quality 500W PSU is enough for the GTX970..but good quality 500W PSUs are rare or even not available here.

The options for good quality PSUs are limited at Jayacom,AFAIK..since the price list doesn't show Seasonic PSUs.

yup, DUM DUM,
u shud trust SIFUS here more than the reseller,
sometimes, they dont noe even what they sell,
some SIFUS here, they dont just gve u recomendation just like that,
they do research 1st on it notworthy.gif

Hello, I'd like to ask.

If my budget is RM3000, what can I get as hardware for a PC?

My main aim is to get really satisfying frame rate & graphics at gaming.

Note: The most highest graphical requirement game I've played so far is Advanced Warfare, so I think that should be around the highest I might go.

Any sort of recommendation and advice is highly appreciated. Thank you!

Xeon 1231 v3 is equivalent to i7 4790,
Next gen gaming hunger for cpu,
Gtx970 would gve u much power to deliver high end gaming

QUOTE(MaKiMo @ Mar 30 2015, 10:05 AM)
To all the sifus here:

After being out of the PC race for so long, I've decided to rejoin the master race!
So I went to LYP yesterday, terrible decision as the place was jam-packed with people doing pre-GST rush! All the shops that I went to, all have so many systems waiting to be assembled...
Anyhow, I managed to grab some components to start on my project. They were:

MSI Z97 Krait Edition SLI
Kingston Hyper Fury X (White) 8gb x 1
Seagate 1Tb. HDD
Xigmatek VECTOR 650W
GTX970
Hyper 412 (got it quite cheap)

So my next items to get, I need the sifus advice:
Shall I go for the E3-1231 v3 or i5-4690K?
Will the i5's ability to overclock to 4gb or more, trump the Xeon's HT function?

Your advice is highly appreciated!
*
xeon 1231 v3 smoke all i5 even the K version,
so btter get the xeon,
or else, since u already have the z97,
why not just jumpe to i7-4790k?

is it possible to build a rig 3.k with gtx980 ?

nope, too tight, like squezing a elephant into the fridge,

so with 3k u best can get is this

Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz RM899
Asrock B85M-HDS RM249
Gainward GTX970 4GB GDDR5 RM1099
Kingston Value RAM 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RM219
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM184
Seasonic M12II Evo 520W 80+ Bronze Fully Modular RM279
Thermaltake Versa H25 RM129
Total:RM3058

it is actly possible,
but it will become a very2 inbalance build

Would be nice if i could get a step by step suggestion on which parts to buy first,as i think ill be buying and fixing it slowly over the course of two months. Should i get a graphics card first, get a better cpu first, change my mobo first, which upgrade in what order would be nice to know;)
*
u have 2 option,

1st: upgrade gpu+psu
this option will bottlecneck the GPU much, but still its a huge upgrade,

Leadtek GTX960 ref RM749
FSP Hexa+ 550w -RM169
value ram 8GB -RM239

2nd option:

intel i3-4150 -RM385
asrock H81M HDS RM199
value 8GB RAM -RM239
Palit GTX750 RM469
FSP HEXA+ -RM169

1st option sounds nice, read quite a number of bad reviews on i3 and the fact that it wont be as futureproof as i5's? is it really necessary to get a new psu or can i use the atx 480?

TINYTECH ATX 480W PSU

REMARKS :
-1 x 20+4 pin Mainboard
-3x4Pin IDE
-1xSATA
-1x4pin FDD
-1x4-pin P4
-8cm fan
-SGCC shell

sorry if im trying to be mr.krabs here;( based on your suggestion do you think i need a new motherboard also? i will be buying windows 7 64bit later on today. will definitely check 8gb ram upgrade;)Thanks for such a quick response!
