QUOTE(Kaizer96 @ Apr 21 2015, 03:42 PM)
This is true, but in the long run, your skill will outweigh your luck.

Playing better does not guarantee you a win, but it will increase your odds at winning. Sometimes you play perfectly in a game, but your teammates took away that victory from you, and sometimes you play like shit, but got carried to victory by your teammates. Sadly most players only remember the former. Our ego will always try to deny our incompetence. We keep telling ourselves that there is no luck involved when we win a game, but when we lose it all happened because of bad luck.

Winning and losing a single pub game always involve luck, but luck has nothing to do with gaining mmr and improving yourself as a player. Just like in poker games, good players will win in the long run. 50 wins and 40 loss will still net you 100 mmr gain. One year ago i couldn't even pass the 5.6k mark no matter how hard i try, but recently I managed to increase 400 mmr, from 5.7k to 6.1k playing "random only " on my alternate account.

Anything is possible in dota life.

The factor here is binomial distribution which need a large sample size.

Shouldn't it be 240-250 mmr gain? hmm.gif

At his level, a win may only award +5 points. If you want to be a stickler about the values, his total mmr gain for winning 10 games more than losing can be anywhere in between +50 to +250 points.

For a large sample size, it's possible to approximate the results using a normal distribution. In this case, it makes more sense to do so as Valve uses a modified TrueSkill algorithm to rate players, which is based off a normal distribution anyway.

Midas is more on gaining extra exp to max spells asap for early-mid game momentum... not recommend to get midas for the sake of gold...

Your farming is very inefficient. I remember that we kept having to remind you to use your Midas. sweat.gif

That being said, there were multiple factors we lost that game.
