QUOTE(Guenhwyvar @ Jul 7 2015, 12:43 PM) Hey man, you are right it might not be a Buddha. But that's what they called it here (Penang). So I was directly translating it. I think Nacht's won't mind as long as it doesn't turn into a ghost stories thread (haunted bungalows) as there are worshipers who worship it. I don't mind the occasional ghost story.A good number of the Hell deities are ghosts, after all, so it would not be entirely off-topic to discuss ghosts here. |

There are people with 3rd eye. Is there a possibility people with "3rd ear"? Sorry, I am not sure what is the correct term to use.
I have a personal experience where I heard something weird in the middle of the night but other occupants in the house didn't hear anything at all. |

QUOTE(iamoracle @ Jul 10 2015, 03:54 PM) There are people with 3rd eye. Is there a possibility people with "3rd ear"? Sorry, I am not sure what is the correct term to use. See my earlier post on the second sight and being sensitive:I have a personal experience where I heard something weird in the middle of the night but other occupants in the house didn't hear anything at all. QUOTE(nachtsider @ May 18 2015, 09:33 AM) The second sight is an ability commonly unlocked following a near-death experience. A census of people who possess the second sight will reveal that most, if not all, obtained it after a serious illness or some other close shave with death. More rarely, one gains it after a significant (often prolonged and traumatic) ghostly encounter. Coming into contact with the other side can result in a little bit of the other side rubbing off onto you. Part of your spiritual wavelength now permanently reverberates with the frequency of the unseen realm after having immersed yourself in it for a brief time, thus permitting you to witness things from the unseen realm - that which others cannot. If you do not have the second sight, you are largely confined to seeing otherworldly beings only when they allow you to see them, or when your spiritual wavelength temporarily reverberates with that of the unseen. This temporary reverberation can happen when you are physically or mentally ill - the latter includes bouts of depression or even severe emotional stress. There is also another category of people who fall somewhere in-between - who do not have the second sight, but are able to freely detect things to a less extreme degree from time to time, often 'feeling' the presence of such beings or hearing/smelling them rather than out-and-out seeing them. We call them 'sensitive' - this category included my spiritual teacher, and (one could say) possibly even myself. This sensitivity is obtained similarly to the second sight - I almost did not survive my birth and was a very sickly child before I started to have brushes with the supernatural, while my teacher was nearly killed in a very nasty motorcycle accident some years before he became a medium. Sensitivity and the second sight can be undone via certain rituals, although it is difficult more often than not. As for why children are prone to seeing the supernatural, this is partly due to them being closer to the period of pre-existence on the other side than fully grown adults are. Some of them find it subconsciously difficult to let go of life (un-life?) in the spirit realm, thus making their spiritual wavelength continue reverberating with that of their former habitat. Another explanation is that their spiritual auras, a cloak-like barrier that surrounds you and protects you to a certain degree from malign otherworldly influences, are not as developed. This aura is something that strengthens as one matures, and can be weakened by physically or mentally traumatic experiences, similar to the temporary reverberation that I have mentioned above. A weakened aura can also explain more frequent encounters with ghosts and other supernatural entities of ill-omen. When one's immune system is weak, one gets sick more often - the aura acts as your spiritual immune system of sorts. Again, through the performing of certain rituals, auras can be strengthened and persisting past ties with the realm beyond can be cut. |

Hi, Nacht. Given your experience with the underworld and experience of being chased by supernatural beings as a child, I have the following questions.
(i) What should we do when we are suddenly confronted by supernatural beings (e.g. ghost, elementals, spirits), which we felt are hostile ? - Run ??? (not sure whether we can outrun a ghost) - Put up a fighting stance ??? (hopefully it will back off and not take it as a challenge) - Take out amulet, talisman, cross ??? - Chant holy scriptures, verses ??? - Walk pass them as if they do not pose any threat ??? (ii) Are high physical strength (high "Yang" energy) and high mental strength (strong ability to face fear) able to deter supernatural beings ? (iii) Any special advice to children or elderly people when they are suddenly confronted by supernatural beings ? |

QUOTE(-|_|- @ Jul 12 2015, 01:04 PM) Hi, Nacht. Given your experience with the underworld and experience of being chased by supernatural beings as a child, I have the following questions. If you are already wearing an amulet or holy symbol but they confront you anyway, revealing the amulet isn't going to achieve anything; it should be quite clear that its presence is not serving as a deterrent.(i) What should we do when we are suddenly confronted by supernatural beings (e.g. ghost, elementals, spirits), which we felt are hostile ? - Run ??? (iii) Any special advice to children or elderly people when they are suddenly confronted by supernatural beings ? Adopting an aggressive stance might stir them to react in kind. Chanting holy scriptures or verses could potentially help, but unless the entity actually, actively starts to menace or threaten you, my advice would be to keep your head down and quietly walk off in the opposite direction. This advice applies to people of all ages. Yes, someone with a high degree of physical and mental strength could potentially be a reservoir of sufficient Yang energy to deter encounters with hostile supernatural creatures, but generally only with lower-level beings such as spirits of the dead. Please note, however, that most supernatural beings are quite content to keep themselves to themselves; you are more likely to be killed by a hit and run driver or be a victim of armed robbery than be harmed by a ghost. |

Nacht, can share with us how a person is possessed by ghost? My friend was possessed before and tried to suicide. His voice and face expression turned into an entirely different person. I guess the ghost wanted to reincarnate.

QUOTE(yeeck @ Jul 15 2015, 01:35 PM) Maybe they didn't give him proper send off burial or funeral ceremony, so he can't reincarnate. So he possess a person and suicide so he can reincarnate? Not sure. Wait sifu Nacht give the proper explanation. |

I'm quite mystified here - as mystified as Yeeck is.Possessing a person does not serve to facilitate reincarnation for a ghost, let alone hasten it. What sort of logic is this? |

Thanks Out and out possession is very rare, and is usually transient/temporary. Only truly desperate spirits do this, e.g. those who wish to make themselves heard by speaking through a living person (to name their killer, to voice unfulfilled wishes, and so on).Far more typical are instances where a spirit, if it is not bound to its usually inhabited place, linger around you like a persistent mosquito. The mosquito comparison is apt, because a persistently lingering spirit can sap one's life force/vitality, causing physical weakness, lowered mood and possibly even ill luck. |

Who are the Lords of Pestilence?
![]() ![]() The Wen Wang Ye/瘟王爷 or Gods of Pestilence control diseases and epidemics, and are worshipped in order to ward these off. The Wang Ye are traditionally described as a group of five, surnamed Ci/池, Wu/吳, Fan/范, Zhu/朱 and Li/李. As the story goes, the five were a group of scholars who met while journeying to the capital to sit for the Imperial examinations and befriended each other. After failing the exams and finding themselves stuck in the capital with no money to go home, they decided to eke out a living as musicians. So good were they that the Emperor hired them as his personal band. The Taoist mystic, Heavenly Master Zhang, happened to be in the capital one day. Harbouring an intense dislike of Zhang, whom he thought of as a huckster, and wishing to make a fool out of him, the Emperor devised the following scheme. He constructed a secret cellar beneath the throne room, where the five scholars were hidden. By means of a hidden rope, he could signal for them to start and stop playing eerie music. He then summoned Zhang to the palace, stating that demons were haunting the place, manifesting as eerie music, and that he needed Zhang to eliminate them. Of course, since there were really no demons, the Emperor predicted that Zhang would not be able to deal with the problem and therefore be exposed as a fraud. When Zhang arrived at the palace, the Emperor pulled on the hidden rope and made the music play in order to demonstrate to Zhang that the palace was 'haunted'. Zhang was unperturbed. He made his ritual flourishes and chanted his ritual chants, upon which the music suddenly ceased. Zhang told the Emperor that the problem was solved, and left without any further explanation. The Emperor ventured into the cellar and was shocked to find the five scholars stone dead. Unable to reveal their deaths due to the fact that doing so would expose his scheme, the Emperor covered up their deaths. He felt extremely guilty, however, and could not so much as get a decent night's sleep. Not long afterwards, the five scholars, eager for revenge, returned from the dead as five plague spirits. They swept the land with disease and pestilence, which caused thousands to sicken, including the Emperor himself. In desperation, the Emperor summoned Zhang, who managed to placate the scholars and persuade them to stay their wrath by offering them positions in the Celestial Bureaucracy as part of the Ministry of Epidemics. They have been worshiped as such ever since. |
