My observation... tongue.gif

Have seen many having same certs, but because of fate/luck/choice, certain jobs give much higher pay while others drag behind.

Choosing the right company or job makes the difference. Sounds obvious but many don't realise after graduation. Most tend to apply the standard ho-hum companies and lag behind. For finance or accounting degree, standard is to apply with banks and audit firms.

Job has to be special skill, which less people know. Accounting and consumer/retail banking... most people know, starting pay sucks and have to suffer a long time till some decent salary comes along.

From the Salary thread (http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=118423&st=0), can see those earning high are the specialised skills position or big multinational company.

Also, sometimes twist of fate presents big reward eg. company go listing, profit sharing, frequent travels, etc..

So, even with cert, in the end, choosing the wrong company or position, will make it useless. smile.gif

well, I do agree high salary is also dependent on luck...but you cannot leave certs out of the option. People won't even bother hiring you if you do not have a cert. Maybe you're looking down on certs because it wasn't mentioned much during the interviews. Certs are becoming more and more common...some people having 2 of them. (I remember on the TV once watching some bloke saying he's still studying at the age of 30+ rclxub.gif )

People are also more interested in your personality. As in how you perform during the interview. My cousin interviewed people himself. Once he came upon a 30+ year old guy and a 20+ year old guy. Of course the older guy had much more experience and his cert was slightly better than the younger fella (or about the same). However...he was just too nervous when answering the questions given. Did not show any confidence in himself. While the younger guy was like...a salesman. Speaking very well, confidently...making the interviewers think and know that he is the better choice.

I beg to differ.Everyone has different preferences.I have friends who say they prefer fresh grads.I have friends who prefer paper qualifications.I even have friends who rather take someone who's very involved in societies during their study days than a degree holder. Its all depends on the person who's interviewing you.

My friend only asks 3 questions,Blood type, number of siblings, and what kind of sports activities he/she plays. He won't tell me why,but he says this 3 is enough to find out the person behaviour and attitude. He doesn't care about studies and things.Mind you,its an MNC.

The above 2 are beyond the control of an application. How can it be considered fair?

maybe what the interviewer desires is not the actual answer itself but the way he answers it? Or something else unsure.gif

Knowing your blood type probably shows that you're at least somewhat concerned about your own body. Most people don't know their own blood type.

Having siblings may indicate that you are aware of family dynamics.

hmmm.... interviewerws have a neck of asking the weirdest of questions, just to short circuit ur nerves! smile.gif

asked a few of my manager uncle/friends what's needed in t he world today.. manager of daimler crysler, GM of toyota, Carrier (a/c) and others, they said the require a person with a leveled head on their shoulders.

sure u can bullcrap ur way through. but getting the job doesn't mean high pay, nor does it mean favour in boss's eyes. as the degree is a 'cert' into an interview, an interview is a 'cert' into the company, and the way u perform in the company is a 'cert' into a better fuutre prospect which possibly is a 'cert' to a higher pay which is a cert...... yeah.. .the never ending cycle of life.. mind u it didn't start with teh degree..

the 'cert' cert thing started way back in PMR smile.gif

any question is a good answer to wht to seek.

as each position seek different talents,
so does the matching person.

some company employ ppl by doign some psychology test, not much questions.

agree, do depend on who call the shots, interview.

If let say somebody got luck to join a highly potential big company and with high salary. If that person do not perform well during probation or work, no matter how good the luck is and how good that guy bluff and show off his skills during interview, what will happen? do not complain to your emplyer why no increase in salary...

My point is, not just luck and cert....

is LUCK+CERT+EXPERIENCE+COMPANY+YOURSELF=SALARY

*.* If u dont get high salary, maybe u lack or weak of those particular.

THanks...

Blood type can roughly tell what kind of person you are.
Yes,the answer to the family question is true.

Basically, in an interview you have to sell yourself.High enough but humble enough. Its just a thing with skills. No matter how preapared you are, there's always people that's greater than our ownself. We can only do our best.

Also the job position must be one which allows one to shine (lots of exposure and communication with higher level peers) and unlike a typical desk job, unnoticeable to superiors.

Coming back to certs, example of jobs not requiring certs is sales or account manager.... just lots of PR and leg work.... street smarts. Someone with cert and not, have equal leverage.

Not thinking straight now (sleepy), but, even car salesman at Toyota, Honda and Proton do damn well with no cert to show for it. All they do is wait for new car launches and their commission and side income come pouring into their pockets!

based of my only 1 yr working experience....

i would said 'luck' is juz 30% probably....mostly is ofcoz 'working attitude'

i was employed into d same firm together wit 2 other female, 1 same qualification as me (spm)...another is higher (a degree holder)...

v start off wit d same RM900.....after 3 months i got increment to RM1.1K....both of them got only RM50 increment...

while after 1/2 yr...i got another increment... RM1.2K.....both of them remain d same....

n is all becoz...d degree holder tends to chat on d phone very often....n alwiz take a long time to finish 1 task....while d 2nd lagi teruk, still eating breakfast @ 9.15am n apply for 1 month leave to visit her boyfriend @ taiwan.... tongue.gif

One example of luck or correct choice of company .... same degree, same graduation year, different company, similar executive position.

Employee A gets 12 months bonus, while employee B gets 2 months bonus.

Or employee A gets share options in share bull run period, while B gets nothing.

Or employee A joins multinational company, travels the world getting allowances/per diems, chance to relocate overseas. B works in Malaysia throughout.

got that right... u'r attitude towards work...
also... don't climb too fast... don't try to be the know it all... doing everything, helping everybody and the brain of the company..

u know why? u might be a threat to ur boss.. smile.gif he may not like it smile.gif

hence.. if u wanna really really do everything well, remember, GIVE UR BOSS the CREDIT! sing his high praises... even though u did it, say it's ur boss's quidance etcetc.... coz.. if he's promoted... guess who stands a higher chance in sitting in his former chair? smile.gif

Good cert but choose a wrong company will make your cert seem useless. This wrong perception. Good cert will eventually benefit you when you apply for other company. Fresh graduate might choose the wrong company in the beginning but there always a chance for them to move on to other company. Then good cert will benefits you. With experience and good qualification, you might be able to land yourself at a good company with a better rewards

So, don't feel hopeless.

Maybe it's just me, but I strongly believe luck DOES influence your salary. There was this female co-worker of mine who started off as a programmer with RM2000 (after confirmation). Previously a fresh graduate. After one year, she received an invitation from someone she doesn't even know, to work with them. She didn't apply from any job agency, she didn't apply from any recruitment postings.

At first, she didn't want to leave the company eventhough the person offered her RM2500. So she though, maybe I can turn him down by asking for a very high salary. And so, she asked for RM3000 as a joke. Guess what, the person agreed! And guess what, the entire interview and salary negotiation is done through MSN! No face-to-face meeting, no appointment for an interview, no second interview. Just go to the office, sign the contract, new job.

some of the people rely on "lobang" instead of finding a job from classified.
