I would echo what Tyll of InnerFidelity and Mike of HEadfonia says about the headphone. The miss sounds dangerous close to being recessed, but in actual fact they are not. It just not as full-bodied as the other cans I have in my possession. Very revealing, resolving and coupled with my RX MK3-B and its bass boost, enough bass punch to my liking. Not as much as the D2000, but much more controlled and tighter. Build quality is SUPERB, it looks handsome and sturdy as well. The most important thing about the K550 is you must make sure the fitting is done properly. Any improper fit will result in audio regressing to sounding thin and harsh. I had to bring the cups forward and tilt it in towards my inner ear to get a good seal and proper fit to isolate nicely as well as getting the supposed sound signature. The headband is extremely comfortable, I had a listening session on the plane back from Tokyo this afternoon, I literally slept with the headphones on it, and not felt it. Supremely comfortable.

For the price I paid for it, this is a better headphones than my previous D2000. I needed a headphone that is isolating, full circumaural and sounds as good as either my DT1350 or my previous D2000. I believe that search is over.

For a good closed headphone, you should try the T5p from beyerdynamic too. This might go OT here, but we may discuss further in the Beyerdynamic thread.

I'm free this ENTIRE month. I'm most certainly will be bringing this out and about while in KL, so if you happen to be free, holler. I'll pair these cans with the portable amps in my possession and you can have a listen.

I like these quips on Headfonia, and of what Mike of Headfonia has to say:-

The statement about him comparing it to HE500 really got to me. His words, not mine. I have not heard the HE500, nor am I interested to the Hifiman brand.

Also love his photography skills, I think even AKG could use his shots of the K550 for their advertisement:

This is a complete turnabout compared to my days with the Denon AH-D2000. I've learned to appreciate the many different shades of bass available, and although I do miss the thumping bass of D2000, I like the tighter more controlled version of it on the K550. Low volume listening on my previous D2000 due to it not isolating itself well from the outside world (a.k.a sound leakage), versus blast-it-as-loud-as-I-like on the K550 and no weird looks from folks next to me on LRT because my choice of music is spilling over to them. laugh.gif

Yup, seriously. I can ask my friend if he can spare that training room in Machines KLCC for a private listening. Need a quiet place to properly enjoy this. Or maybe not, since the K550 is a closed end can and isolates superbly!

No problemo. Either bring your own media, or if you like my kind of music (jazz, blues, electronicas), I always bring my 4 layer sandwich with me. tongue.gif

What about 24/6, Sunday, 2pm, Starbucks at 1st Avenue, 1st floor, Berjaya Times Square hmm.gif

Lennox should be coming with his AKG K240mkII and of course stringfellow with the star of the meet, the brand new K550 drool.gif

Will come with sources, DACs, amps and the AKG Q701 nod.gif

If you have an AKG, do lugged it along. If you have anything else to compare with AKG, bring it too. If you have nothing at all, just bring your keen sense of music along tongue.gif

Anyone else hmm.gif

Should be able to make it. I'm free the whole month.

I'll bring these:-

AKG-K550
*Audez'e LCD2
*Beyerdynamic T1

Fostex HP-P1
ALO The Continental V2
ALO RX MKIII-B
Headamp Pico

MacBook Air running Amarra, Fidelia FHX with 6TB storage. That 6TB only as a side show if anyone's interested on Plex.

The headphones in * only if anyone is interested to hear sounds beyond AKG's own.

Otherwise, if no interest in the other headphones or digital music playback on MAC OS X, I'll just bring my 4-layer sandwich (iPod Classic/Fostex HP-P1/ALO Continental V2/ALO RX MKIII-B) and the K550.
