Just re-watched documentary on Henry and Bergkamp. Perghh the glory days of late 90s and early 2000s. Damn, sent shivers down my spine.
Back then when everyone feared playing against us. Teams hated facing against us, if not because of Henry's brilliance, then because of Viera and the likes of Tony Adams/Martin Keown at the back. Solid all around the park. From Goalkeeper all the way to our strikers.
It has balance. Every department was strong. As much as people give credit to Henry, and rightfully so; if Henry was not playing, others would step up and take the mantle. Bergkamp, Pires, Viera, Ljungberg, Wiltord, Lauren, and many more that can be named.
and most importantly, back then. Wenger was really, a genius. A masterclass of a manager. A manager that was really respected and praised.
but looking at the squad nowadays, really sad state to compare. None of our players really have that deep rooted love for the club. I doubt if they even knew or took interest to know about the history of our club. Hence, why week in week out we can see on the pitch that the players, they don't really know what it means putting on that Arsenal jersey and playing for the club.
In the past few games itself we can see players like Mertesacker ducking away from the ball when he's the tallest and should put his body on the line. Then Szczesny yesterday after concede the 2nd goal, paling menyampah. See his attitude really feel wanna puke. Champion on facebook/instagram but when comes to the field, all talk and no show.
More than anything, what we really need to do is to get back to our roots.
EDIT: Cleared about sleeves
Viera / petite / gilberto all are world class dm, world cup winners....
compare to arteta, flamini....sorry.... not even better dm in BPL.
