basically, you guys already know much on the interview stages. and you can find most info from captainlim or pprune forums.

i'm going to share some little details about a cadet life. start off with 21 days Outward Bound School in Lumut. it's quite physical demanding but the experience is worth it. after OBS, fly back to Singapore and start off immediately with the ground school. classes on Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm. first phase is about 1.5-2 months, doing Tech papers and 10-15 hours of flying the C152. another 5-6 months will be doing Nav papers. this is the most critical stage; purely ground studies and no more flying. these papers are for the ATPL. if you pass the ATPL, then will proceed to Perf 'A' papers for another 2 weeks. your ground studies end here in Singapore with the passing of both the ATPL and Perf 'A' papers. you are ready to pack your bags to Jandakot, Perth.

you will be doing many hours of flying the C172 and Baron in Jandakot for about 10months. later will proceed to Maroochydore, Brisbane for advanced Learjet45 training, around 2 months. upon completion, you are officially graduated from cadetship and start your career with the airlines.

i end here because i'm in my final week of my ATPL. so can't spend much time here. there are a few more LYN members here who are already in the Jandakot phase and some already a full fledged pilot. i'm sure they will share more info if they are free and willing. till then, see you guys; next year.
threadstarter tatayoung: i found a lot of good info and tips all scattered over the pages of this thread. maybe if you are free, you can copy and update them to the front page for the benefit of all aspiring pilots.

hi hoongji, in your final week of ur ATPL now? All the Best and Good Luck. yeah, still remember when i did my ATPL in december last year, geezzz... was studying mad day and night for months... have u completed ur Performance A paper? many seem to think that Performance A alone is tougher than all the ATPL subjects combined but i felt that it was pretty much easy but of course lots of hard work are required. anyway, am in the airbus fleet now, so would u be sent to the 744 or 777 fleet upon graduation? i still prefer 744 though 777 is an excellant plane. Good Luck to you again! Regards, Cheers~

thx for the wishes. i want to congratulate you too for making it there to the top. i still have long way to go. so you are with the A345s? you are making big bucks there with all those ultra long hauls. smile.gif any chance going to the A380s in the future? everyone will envy you cos you will be piloting the largest plane

i'm currently signed on with the Pax and most probably will end up in the 777s. but anything can happen and the company can change their minds in the future. i'm eyeing for the 787 or 380 fleet.

all the best to you too mate. cheers and have a merry xmas.

not sure whether all airlines allow glasses but SIA does. their eyesight requirement is 'at least 6/60 without optical aids, correctable to 6/6.'

Let me answer this tongue.gif Correct me if i'm wrong

1) Definitely no. Sorry to say, please give up becoming a pilot if you're color blind.
2) As long as your vision is adjusted to 6/60 (with or without the help of eyewear)
3) I think no concern... you can even tatoo on your butts
4) Basically no, but there might be age limit if you're enrolling in cadet pilot program offered by airline company e.g. MAS

1. There is a chance you might get your Class 1 if you are able to pass the lantern test after failing the Ishihara colour test but honestly it seriously affects your chance of getting into a cadet pilot program.
2. Vision correctable to 6/6 with 6/60 unaided refers to the minimum requirement of the various cadet pilot programs such as SIA, AirAsia and MAS. It does not however, reflects the true standard of a Class 1 medical. But as far as I know, the CAAS (Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore) has roughly the same thing for their Class 1.
3. Tattoo should not affect your chance of getting your Class 1, BUT it is noted down during the medical examination and thus might affect your chance of getting selected into the cadet pilot program.
4. AFAIK, MAS cadet pilot program has a upper limit for age of 26, 28 for AirAsia and "early thirties" for SIA.

Ishihara colour test only a big problem for me...
I can't figure out the number in the card test. In real life, I can see all the colour including the traffic light. I only realise I am colour blind after do the Ishihara colour test.
Sorry, what you mean the Class 1 ? What is that ?
Besides that, Vision correctable to 6/6 with 6/60 unaided mean what ? I only know that both my eyes are 200 degree when I go to make a spectacles.
Thanks smile.gif
