Hi all, i can see that there are many aspiring pilots around. Well, for those uninitiated, being a pilot is not just about flying. A pilots' job entails many other tasks such as getting the latest weather forecast at the departure, enroute and destination aerodrome, route planning, fuel calculation, load and balance of the aircraft and more importantly, to get the passengers and crew from point A to point B not only by the fastest, most economical but the safest way as well etc etc just to name a few.

Flying is about passion not money and girls. I've seen cadets dropped out midway through flight training because either they underperform or eventually just realised that flying isn't what they've in mind all these while.

So, choose wisely. anyway, flying is a very unique profession whereby like one forumer has mentioned before, it is not so much of us choosing to be a pilot but it is more like only a selected elite few are screened and finally chosen among the thousands of aspirants whether we are suitable to be a pilot. Having excellent grades alone doesnt make one a good pilot either, many other factors, such as leadership qualities, character assessment comes into play. Bear in mind, not everyone has what it takes to be a pilot.

There is a fine line between being a pilot and being a good pilot.

Anyway, All the Best to All aspiring pilots! Hope to see you guys up there one day.

Cheers~

My friend failed the color blind test, then cannot continue already. He passed all the exam in the 1st stage...such a waste.

It is still possible for a person who has color blindness to take a pilot's license.

it is not about how clever or how good is the school result. it is about hardwork. to clear the ground school exams, you need to put in a lot of effort in studies.

basically, you guys already know much on the interview stages. and you can find most info from captainlim or pprune forums.

i'm going to share some little details about a cadet life. start off with 21 days Outward Bound School in Lumut. it's quite physical demanding but the experience is worth it. after OBS, fly back to Singapore and start off immediately with the ground school. classes on Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm. first phase is about 1.5-2 months, doing Tech papers and 10-15 hours of flying the C152. another 5-6 months will be doing Nav papers. this is the most critical stage; purely ground studies and no more flying. these papers are for the ATPL. if you pass the ATPL, then will proceed to Perf 'A' papers for another 2 weeks. your ground studies end here in Singapore with the passing of both the ATPL and Perf 'A' papers. you are ready to pack your bags to Jandakot, Perth.

you will be doing many hours of flying the C172 and Baron in Jandakot for about 10months. later will proceed to Maroochydore, Brisbane for advanced Learjet45 training, around 2 months. upon completion, you are officially graduated from cadetship and start your career with the airlines.

i end here because i'm in my final week of my ATPL. so can't spend much time here. there are a few more LYN members here who are already in the Jandakot phase and some already a full fledged pilot. i'm sure they will share more info if they are free and willing. till then, see you guys; next year.

threadstarter tatayoung: i found a lot of good info and tips all scattered over the pages of this thread. maybe if you are free, you can copy and update them to the front page for the benefit of all aspiring pilots.
