Hi,

Any one recommending what brand of luggages are long lasting and probably have quite good compartments?

Was looking for something within a mid range price.

Please advise.

I dunno much about brand of luggage but I have 1 Camel trolly back with 4 compartment bought during my studies and until now the bag good enough and never have problem with the zip or roller. Cost me near Rm200 and cabin luggage too. During the sales at Mandarina Duck Pavillion, I bought another upper end luggage back and I wanna see how many years this expensive bag would last.

There is another extensive discussion relating to bag but not usual travel luggage but only backpack:

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...uggage+backpack

Honestly after my last backpacking experience in Pearl River Delta in Dec'08, I find back pack is actually more usefull compare to those bulky roller bag especially for those moving from 1 city to another. A good back pack have a good cushioning system that u won't really feel pain although carrying 10kg behind u..

its better to buy luggages with 4 wheels.
those with 2 wheels dont really last if theres a heavy load and u often change hotel as u travel.
biggrin.gif

my last holiday trip,
my dad bought this polo brand if not mistaken,
at Isetan Lot 10.
it was a buy 1 free 1 deal biggrin.gif
not that bad.
as compartment wise, not really that many
since we dont really need alot compartments during travel.
most of the time we just stack them together or organize it nicely.

Well, I'm going to the US for about 3 months. So I need a big check-in luggage.

I think i need opinion on both actually, big ones and cabin ones.

How much is Samsonite? What is the price range for both types of luggages?

Samsonite would cost ranging from 600-1000++. Of course this brand are good and it considered as upper end luggage brand and same goes to Delsey, MD, Aigner, Tumi, Travelpro, Victorinox and also Samsonite Black.

errr...depends on how much you want to pack and what you want to pack inside.
By giving thoughts into this than you'll eventually know what type and how many and how big the luggage is to be.
If you didn't even know that, who are we to recommend luggage size?

bring small/cheapass bag that's big enough to pack your daily stuff for a week. bring lesser clothes.

once you got there, go shopping spree. buy a bigger bag, dump the old bag, come back with new bag + new clothes

Where can I get Samsonite bag at that price in the US?

Any outlet at San Fran or LA? Or every Samsonite outlet is generally cheaper by that much.

I think Samsonite is a good brand and the bag actually can last long for more than 5 years. Find a good bag that can last long and one thing to mention here. If you buy a bag with a zip, please aware that when they do a cargo loading, some people can unzip you bag using a small ball pen. I saw the video and they actually did that. Don't EVER try to put any valuable thing inside the cargo. Its really unsafe

i think i share the same concern as TS, 'cause we're joining the same program in usa. anyhow, i've got a solution.

this is what i'm gonna do:
use cheapass bag, pack as little as i can. reach there, work, buy new bag, clothes, dump the old bag.

i'm planning to buy a backpack since i have plan to backpack around a few states like NY and NJ.

Having used different luggage bags, i must say Samsonite makes one of the best bags without doubt. Most of the other brands like Polo, Crocodile and unbranded ones are quite hopeless. After a while, they start to tear or the wheels will break or the handle will break and i've even seen a stupid CHina bag that my friend used that wasn't balanced when you stand it upright.

Samsonite maybe expensive but its got minimum 10 years warranty and in some higher range ones, lifetime warranty. First, its very light and you'd be surprise the space compartment you get for such a small bag. And they have those small but very ingenious compartments.

My advise to you travellers out there who wish to buy a cabin bag or check in bag, invest in a good brand, be it Samsonite or Victorinox or Mendoza. Forget about cheapo brands if you wanna buy 1 for the long run.

Samsonite cheapest cabin bag is definitely more than RM500, unless you get it at a bargain or clearance stock.

But yeah, i get what you mean about scratches and such but i think to avoid that, get those canvas type of bag, which is just as good and also very light.

I've used samsonite luggage for many years. One thing I noticed recently however is that samsonite for the US market is quite different from Samsonite for the UK/European market. The models you see in Malaysia are generally UK/European ones, the ones in the US are bulkier/heavier in general.

I bought my latest samsonite spinner in the UK eventually, I wanted something light but durable, the US ones are heavy and durable, not my cup of tea for lots of travelling. UK during christmas sales and RM5.10 per GBP is amazingly cheap biggrin.gif

I've been using Samsonite for years and years. My main travel bags are all Samsonite. I have one that I use for 4-14 day trips (usually maxes out around 17-22kg), and a bigger one for trips longer than 14 days (or if I want to carry a lot of stuff, usually around 30kg total). Both have large wheels for easy movement (especially going up/down steps, and cobblestone streets like in many European cities).

The smaller bag is already 11 years old and still going strong. The larger bag is 4 years old.

I also have a hard shell large Samsonite and a Samsonite garment bag. Both have survived the test of time (>11 years) and are still in good condition.

For backpacking, I have 3 backpacks: a 65L Deuter, a 55L Tatonka and a smaller (maybe 20L-ish cheapo from Thailand of dubious authenticity) backpack. The Deuter backpack is more comfortable than the Tatonka.

Except for one, all my Samsonites were bought in the States. So much cheaper there. My garment bag cost me USD110. Over here, sure >RM1k. Trick to getting good branded stuff at decent prices is to buy them overseas and not in Malaysia. Sad but that is the reality of it, we earn less (relatively speaking) but we have to pay more. Even better if you buy during sale season. Last Christmas sale season, I was in HK and found many branded luggages being sold at hefty discounts (Samsonite, Victorinox, Tumi). I was sorely tempted but didn't buy as I already have what I need and these days must be cautious about spending $$.

SeLrAhC, American Tourister is basically Samsonite relabelled in case you didn't know. You won't get the high end Samsonite stuff as American Tourister but the low end spinners for example are exactly the same but much cheaper.

I still prefer european samsonite stuff though, they're lighter but just as tough.

Delsey, bought in US. Usd150. Good quality, long lasting and can fit a lot of stuff. I bought it 3 years ago and my parents just bought 3 more of the same from Macys. I've been dragging it to and fro US London Malaysia on tar roads etc etc. Really the best luggage bag ever.

You don't have to care if you get scratches on your bag. It's function is to protect your belongings, not to look pretty biggrin.gif

then isnt better to get cheap and sturdy bags instead? if d objective is just to protect d stuff.. that's how i purchase my bags, as long as d wheels dont KO and the bag dont rip, looks nice new, and cheap.. can already ^^

When u enter any airport in this world, & b4 the scanner machine, there is a standard measurement "basket??" for max luggage size. just put in you backpack & check whether u can fit in to the 'basket" or for me it's a Jig (any tool to measure standardization of product)

If cannot, no choice hv to check-in

But not for hard case Delsey.. I use my uncle's Delsey to go to UK & to go back to Malaysia. Only use for one trip & then got crack. I didn't notice it at the airport & now I have to buy a new one because warranty doesn't cover damage caused at the airport. I still think that for a RM600++ bag, it should be able to bear the effect of throwing, falling, etc at the airport. Stupid! And I dont know what material they use for the tyre. Got so ugly already. Scratch everywhere on the bag! Then what is the expensive price for???!!!!! As* **le!!!

Btw, where to buy a cheap luggage? I mean Delsey. ( I hate Delsey..mentioning the word even can make me so out of mood )

yeah i am using a hardcase 29" eminent roller bag right now..
you cant compare eminent with samsonite cos samsonite bags are just another level..
i bought mine.. hippo eminent for RM500 with some discounts.. original price was 700..
i just arrived in pittsburgh last nite and my eminent bag arrived safely too and in 1 piece smile.gif

if you're on a tight budget.. get the eminent bag! it'll do you good..

Mine is the light red one..

wow nice view there,

I was waiting good replies but too late i cant wait cool2.gif

wanted to get cabin bag so found 1 20" samsonite cost rm571 after discount is hard case (3kg) material but kind of slim...

then proceed to Lojel and Eminent.....been choosing for an hour haven decide which patter to get...

Eminent = Hard case 18" slight smaller less compartment rm546
Lojel = 20" slightly bigger, more compartments (laptop compartment 6~10.1" netbook) rm345 after discount (rm550)

Was very tempting to get Samsonite too bad....is kind of small.. material is the same as what i choose with a little extra bucks can get it...

Well think i might go for bigger bags with Samsonite cool.gif

i used samsonite since 2004. i travelled to china, thailand(1 yr, every 3 week balik once so imagine 1 yr how many times the luggage kena thrown), aus,hk,taiwan,sg,philippines. it's still working perfectly fine! but got scratches liao sad.gif

then when i go europe tat time.. i used another luggage bought from japan wan.. (my sis's) coz my parents used my samsonite to taiwan.. anyway.. when i collect my bag at Sweden airport... the bag produces loud roller noise.. then rupanya the rubber layer of the wheel cracked open liao... had no choice but to use airport trolley (I never use trolley b4 coz all the time the samsonite bag got 4 wheels) then when the stupid wheel rubber layer broke off and disengaged from the bag when i was checking-in my hotel in denmark.. i feel like wanna throw the bag.. and i missed my samsonite sad.gif damn malu coz without the rubber layer it makes loud squeeking roller noise and all guailou keep pandang me nia..

Go to a physical store and check out the models yourself. Whatever you read on LYN is the same as what you read on any other online forums and will be colored by people's preferences.

Hey guys, need some advice on buying myself a new luggage. I'm not a frequent traveler and will probably go to a trip about once a year. My budget is within RM200 and hope to get myself a 24/25" medium check-in luggage with 2 rollers.

I have scouted around Parkson recently and the promoter there recommended me to buy one for about RM150 which looks like this:

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-...5_6558331_n.jpg

Is it any good or anything I should be aware when shopping for luggage?

Knowing how important is weight especially taking Air Asia, what's the lightest cabin luggage (20" or 21") you people come across? What's the weight? The lightest I come across is 2 to 2.2 kg apiece

I am thinking of buying american tourister luggage bag? anyone knows where to get it at a cheaper price?
and is it long lasting? I heard that it is easily scratch?

besides that, is the zip type of luggage better or the lock type? I heard that maybe the zip type very easy for people to cut through.

<0.5kg. Cloth based bag. Foldable some more if not in use. Used it couple of times. Can save 2kg for Air Asia 7kg.

Otherwise, a standard cabin luggage, lightest is around 2kg.

Here is what a senior employee of a OEM luggage maker (if not the biggest) in Malaysia shared with me.

If you ever see how airport luggage handlers and how the conveyor belt system moved, you will understand why the person recommends not to buy branded/expensive luggage. Just a normal standard one will do.
From the moment your luggage disappear after check-in, it goes through lengths of conveyor and get ejected/dropped by those automation system into respective bins.

From there, you will see it stacked high up on those trolleys while waiting.

When the luggage gets to the plane, you can see how they throw / chuck it around like a basketball.
This is where most of the damage like lock broken, zip/clasp open, corner dented/hole, etc.

Reverse procedure when plane touch down.

To answer your question:

Long lasting or not, will it scratch : simple, read above.

Zip = ensure the zip is those quality and can lock into a fixed position. Cannot moved both zipper together.
Otherwise, there are ways to open and close back the zip without touching your lock.

Lock = after countless throws, it will get damaged also.

My preference ? Still lock. But get 1-2 straps to tie it vertically and horizontally to prevent open up like a clam in case the lock breaks.

Or cling-wrap it.

Anyone owns an American Tourister luggage bag?

Mind to share your reviews:

How is the quality? Is it easily breakable or damage?
How about the zip? Is it easy to cut open?
Is it Long lasting?

Thank you....

i own the cloth type for 1 year now and taken on 3 trips (seoul, bali and hanoi)...its been great and very sturdy...mine is the type with 4 wheels and 360 degree motion...love it when travelling as it is super easy to maneuver...no damage even after being thrown around by Air Asia and Korean Airlines...

i'm now looking to get 2 more with the sale...i bought mine during sale and feel its good value...best time to buy is during the sales which is twice a year...

cheers...

I have two American Tourister trolley bags and they are good. Durable and sturdy. I bought my first American Tourister luggage in Singapore back in January 2008 and it stills works fine. As a matter of fact, I just brought it to Singapore again just last week. The furthest it has traveled is to Seoul last year. Even though my first American Tourister luggage is a cabin-sized luggage, I've always checked it in. We all know that those airline baggage handlers are not gentle when handling your luggage but mine has survived countless of trips in the belly of an aircraft in the past 4 1/2 years. thumbup.gif By the way, American Tourister is the sister brand of Samsonite with Samsonite aiming the high-end market and American Tourister aiming the mass consumers. American Tourister is definitely much more affordable but rest assured the quality is just as good biggrin.gif

in my aunt's house,we have American Tourister, Samsonite, Hush Puppies, Eminent etc. So far she commented Eminent is better,it does the 360' turning very well.lol ><
But the american tourister we have is quite durable too.

I have American Tourister..bought during sale at Isetan..use it less than 5 times.. koyak d. Its the fabric type. I bought a Samsonite fabric one after that.. it is very obvious that Samsonite one is way better quality and American Tourister, although both same company.

Suggest you pony up the $ and buy Samsonite.

That's why for me, I bought Osprey Transporter 60L bag. It's a duffel bag but made of very durable material. It has been through countless check ins and it still looks new. However, I do notice that when checking in, soft bags are usually put into a bin unlike hard cover luggages. Not sure why but maybe will be able to stay put in the conveyor belt when it's moving.

I've never travelled with any of those hard cover luggages anymore after that. biggrin.gif Easier to mobilize with the duffel bag too. biggrin.gif As it comes with 2 harness straps if i need to carry it around.

1) As you stated, easier to move on the conveyor belts and while turning corners. Especially if the bag is not full, it can crease/fold and get stuck somewhere.

2) Due to straps. Normally they will try to tuck in it, otherwise possible to hook onto something along the way inside the conveyor / bin .

3) Handling. Some bags no handle, or not at a user-friendly position. Difficult to use hand/finger to grab.

Thanks for the info. For my bag, the harness straps can be kept into the zipper as it's detachable at one end. biggrin.gif

I'm not complaining. Just stating the FACT. The quality of the fabric on the Samsonite is indeed better. I bought the American Tourister in the beginning thinking that it is adik Samsonite so quality should be good. Well, didn't live up to MY expectations.

I bought mine 2 years back, not sure if the quality is same as your 5 year old one. Luggage companies been skimping lately, e.g. Tumi no longer offers lifetime warranty.

Can't comment about American Tourister, but my Samsonite soft fabric cabin luggage is over 10 years old, been all over the world and still going strong. Even though it's a cabin luggage it's been checked in many many times.

Making this thread into a luggage thread would be cool..cos I'm also looking for a new one and would be good to get first hand feedback on the different makes.

I don't have a American Tourister but a Samsonite, and agree with the comments that it lasts. I'm a frequent flyer (almost every week) and so far haven't koyak or crack. And if you're lucky during the sale the price differential wouldn't be too much.

I do have my eye on this baby but not sure if I'm ready to splurge yet:

Samsonite is more expensive than its cousin. So it SHOULD be better. However, for the kind of price that they are selling an American Tourister luggage for, it is very good already. And perhaps you weren't so lucky and bought one that was built not up to the usual American Tourister standard. Just saying... smile.gif

My brother just bought for me an AT excursion bag (something like a sling bag) over at India. Does it has any warranty over at Malaysia. And is the warranty still valid in Malaysia if used locally (Malaysia). Do reply if anyone knows..... Any useful reply is deeply appreciated ;-)

I have 02 American Tourister. The 1st one I bought in 2007. It has been to HK,Australia, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Mecca & my home in KK (I travel frequently KL/KK/KL). Still working perfectly.

Recently bought a bigger luggage and the 1st trip of this new luggage was to Korea recently. So far so good. I am happy with AT luggage.

Dear All,

I come here in dire need of help. I need to buy a new suitcase. It must be large and spacious; preferably hardback. I went to Samsonite in Sunway Pyramid today and their prices almost gave me a heart attack today. Any advice where to go, what brand and how much it would be? I am a car-less man so would like to have some information before I start my bus rides around KL tongue.gif

THANK YOU!

I've had both a close RM1k Samsonite and a RM250+ American Tourister. The Samsonite did break, the American Tourister hasn't.

I'll buy American Tourister next time, at least if it breaks I'm not out of RM1k.

Check out flyertalk's forum as well, lots of info on luggage and warranties.

I travel very much often 10times ++ a year, and i think most important is the price tag with 4 wheels, 360degrees turning is much convenient. Since the luggage are handling by the airport therefore don't expect too much about their gentle.

Btw, if insist on mfg quality, i think Samsonite and Tumi is better and tough also much costly..

You can get a real Tumi for that cheap? biggrin.gif

FWIW Samsonite and American Tourister are from the same company, just different ranges and warranty coverage. I've had bloody expensive Samsonites crack while my RM300 American Tourister and Delsey are going strong so I just keep to the cheap bags and replace them every so often.

On the other extreme Briggs & Riley has the lifetime "Simple as that" warranty where they cover any damage to their bags. Unfortunately the have repair centers everywhere in southeast Asia except KL...

It would be helpful if you let us know how much you want to spend. For bags, expensive also got, cheap also got. If you talk about "best brand" then of course it won't be cheap.

Anyway, if you want a bag than can fit up to 1 week of clothes, then I guess a 22-24 inch bag will be ok.

For luggage, if you fill up to 25kg that is a lot of clothes (can be for 2-3 week trip) and will require a big bag like 30 inch and bigger.

no matter what the luggage bag is, just take one and stand on the bag, yes on top of it, if the bag crumples down, then it is not good enough.

this is how the luggage handlers are going to handle your luggage, no need to buy too expensive one , it will get scratches and stickers and some random writings using chalk, most of the time.

Thread merged & bumped.

From my experience, I prefer backpack rather than luggages. Light, easy to carry and no matter how you put in all ypur goods, it will not exceed 15kg ..i.e the limit by AA rclxms.gif ..Furthermore, if you travel via public transport rather than using agents. Do consider this as you dunwan to be burden pulling & carrying that heavy luggage up & down stairs in any MRT stations or buses biggrin.gif

For short trip, i.e. 1 or 2 days trip, I will just bring my laptop bag, stuffed with clothes, that's all.
For trip longer than 2 days, I'll prefer to take a luggage, don't usually take mrt/lrt/bus, coz it's business trip.

I've been using twin Rimowa Limbo for a few years, and they are almost indestructible. Both have the TSA locks and the after sales service are impeccable. I bought them at Frankfurt and it would seems they are cheapest there. Saw a Rimowa shop at Gardens Midvalley, price difference is around RM 1600, I paid Euro 400 for one (RM 1600), and saw the same one at Gardens for RM3k plus.

I was in Tokyo back in 2010 for my annual trip and it would seems that one of the TSA locks combination rosetted itself, I just gave a call to Rimowa Japan and they sent a technician to my hotel in 1 hrs time and fixed my luggage. Since I stay in JB, they always email me yearly to send my luggage for free maintenance in Singapore. So if you want a luggage you can trust and use for a long time, Rimowa is the one to get

Some Victorinox have a GPS location feature but that brand is expensive and rare in Malaysia. Some airport shops have the roll aboard sizes only.

I woder if thieves might be more tempted by the expensive luggage than the dirty clothing inside?

Depend what you put inside your luggage, my hand carry size backpack max load is 18kg, laptop, camera, books and electronics etc. Check in luggage that is similar size only about 13-15 kg with clothes and some souvenir. If you are a guy and don't mind your clothes trend in your trip, you can survive a one week trip with a backpack, just pack efficiently and do some laundry.

Durable and affordable, maybe can try American Tourister. Using a free 26 inch American Tourister spinner. Travel few times with a 30 kg load, exterior very ugly, grease patches/scratches here and there. But interior and the wheels still holding up.

Buy a small electronic scale if don't want to repack in the airport due to extra weight charge.

Anyone bought luggage from www.travelbox.com.my?
There are quite some good deals there and they provide free delivery service.
But seems not much info on them besides their website and fb page.

Anyone bought luggage from www.travelbox.com.my?
There are quite some good deals there and they provide free delivery service.
But seems not much info on them besides their website and fb page.

Did you buy from them in the end? How is it?

Hmm if you are at klang valley, can try isetan at gardens.

Mid valley Metrojaya had a member rebate of RM50 voucher but it is over now.

Robinson has bigger discount for delsey if you are looking for their new arrivals.

yes i did buy from them, its same thing like u buy from travel store in shopping mall. Save on the parking and petrol lo...
if u submit a review on the product u bought on their website, you receive rm20 credit, which i used to purchase a luggage strap with TSA lock.

Hi guys

I really need a opinion to procure a hand luggage & luggage bag for my monthly usage. I will travel often starting next month thus reliable luggages will help me most.

Keen any opinions from you guys for it. I don't mind to spend slightly more for one time buy but not a very high-end designer brand.

Thank you in advance. thumbup.gif

Mid range will do for normal hand carry as it won't be heavy loaded and tossed around. Prefer soft luggage for more external soft pockets during down time of trips.

These are my travel experiences with various sizes of bags.

Checkin luggage.
1 Never buy larger than 25" luggage for less than 20 days overseas trip.
Reasons being:
Bulky, more heavier and "eat" up 2 to 3kg precious checkin weight allowance.
Clumsy in a packed and crowded metro train and stations transfer.
If you travel in group of more than two persons, You can't take Malaysia budget airport taxi coz the 30" can't fit into the car boot fitted with gas cylinder. You have to pay more and take the premium taxi.

2. Buy the lightest possible to save checkin luggage fee.

3. Avoid the zipper luggage coz the zipper can be easily opened with a ballpoint pen.

4. Buy luggage with embedded TSA lock incase you want to travel to USA and never loose your stand alone luggage lock again.

Carry on bag.

1 Never buy the standard 20" cabin size with wheels. Budget airlines love to pick this type of luggage for 7kg or 5kg random weighing.
2. Buy the lightest hand carry you can afford coz you want to squeeze every thing in your bag under 7kg/5kg.
3. Buy a soft skin and flexi shape luggage to accommodate various cabin sizes requirement by different airlines.

Last but not least, if you travel first or business class, by all means buy any luggage your money can buy. tongue.gif

Not really. Biz class only allow 2-3 hand carry with about 40-50 kg check in luggage. I over loaded on my biz trip because of the equipments we bringing for work. The airline charged for luggage over weight.

Hey has anyone here used the Rofina Cosas United line of luggage? They're very reasonably priced but i'm wondering how reliable they are. I've been very happy with my samsonite and american touristers just thinking if there are any other options out there. Need to get anoter 24inc one

My lately most-used is a backpack with wheels, overhead bin sized. Even more options if take along another foldable bag and use manual vacuum compression bags. Enough for a week in cold weather.

About to get an EMINENT luggage which cost RM700 (retail RM1000) 30" with TSA lock, conceal zip, polycarbonyte, hardtype, told to be scratch resistance.

Question is... is EMINENT a good product to go with?

I go for a trip for around 1 month ~ 2 months.
So is it enough I use a 20 Inch luggage and a 28L daypack?
I search around and only 25 inch is available(67cm), and it seem like too big and it is for 2 people?
Please advise

I'd rather go with the biggest you can take with if I will be traveling for 1~2 months. Unless if the place you're staying has washer AND dryer. hmm.gif

Anyone here knows a good rolling briefcase? I think I'll be traveling a lot because of my job and I'm looking for a rolling briefcase (for 15" workstation laptop and stuff) that can be put on top of a medium-sized checked-in baggage. I've checked Samsonite in KLCC, but their stuff there is either RM1,300 something or RM3,100 something. Too much for me. sweat.gif

Samsonite is crap. I've bought their expensive stuff and they still break. My last bag is a Delsey and I've been very happy with it although I only travel 1-2 times per year.

If you're buying for work and travel a lot then get something that has lifetime warranty. Many people swear by Briggs & Reilly or Victorinox lifetime warranties. Again you can buy one bag every time the old one breaks or you can buy a good one up front and have them fix it anytime it breaks. It's a personal choice.

Those flyers always say "Cheap, light, durable", pick only 2. If you fly a lot and your stuff is heavy, get a good one, lifetime warranty preferred.

I fly biweekly for work, for some years now, carry on only and no check in. I have been using Eagle Creek roller, lifetime no matter what warranty but I read there are few people facing problems claiming the lifetime warranty, so far my bag still ok after few years. Recently has been switching to Briggs and Riley, lifetime no question ask warranty, not even asking for receipt or where you bought it when I bring in for some minor flaws, but I heard no service center in Malaysia, nearest is Singapore. B&R is more professional looking, built is much better, one of the top in luggage, around 1.5k rm. Ask company to pay if possible.

If you travel in this region, Europe or Oz, weight is your problem. Those bags are very heavy, around 4kg, left 3-4 kg for your clothes and stuff lasting for 1 week. I have a slim laptop bag dump inside the carry on, weight around 5-6 kg with all my electronic work stuff, will take it out as personal item if they want to weight my hand carry.

Thanks for the input fellas. My budget is RM1,000 so B&R or Victorinox is too expensive for me, at least for now. nod.gif

Have any of you heard of Everki before? I stumbled upon this online shop in Rakuten: http://www.rakuten.com.my/shop/everki/product/EKB440/ By the look of it, the product itself is quite alright and it has the back strap to "tie" it with my checked baggage. hmm.gif

Hi all,

I'm looking for two types of bags:

1) Cabin-compliant (AirAsia AND International flights) roll/spinning laptop bag for my 15~17" laptop + some clothes. Would be awesome if can carry like a backpack as well
E.g.: http://www.ebags.com/product/eagle-creek/e...ductid=10316338

2) Checked-in luggage - spinwheels, no idea if soft/hardshell is better.

Any recommendations for brands/models? My main concerns are quality and warranty.
Also, any recommendation for shops to buy from? I live in Klang Valley.

Thanks guys. Kinda clueless because I've never bought these types of bags before.

Just to update you guys, Cuir Boutique in Pyramid sells a few good brands (Barry Smith, Victorinox and Antler) with warranties up to 10 years (Antler). The prices can be negotiated a lot as well. I thought I got a good bargain - bought an Antler and Barry Smith for about RM770.

There is a Barry Smith outlet in Pyramid as well. They sell Barry Smith, Victorinox and Antler with similar discount rates, but Cuir Boutique gave further discounts.

Victorinox had the exact cabin bag that I was looking for but unfortunately it was RM1.5k++.

I generally like luggages made by American Tourister or Antler. They come with 10 years warranty, and generally on 30-50% off sales at Metro and Parkson.
A dodgy luggage can be a surefire way to ruin a holiday experience if they break on the way to your destination - even if you are covered by travel insurance.

For short trips, I generally like the 50L hybrids (roller with shoulder straps). This size means you don't need to check it in. These can generally be found from any reputable camping store.

Victorinox carries a lifetime limited warranty which is why so costly.
Antler is a good choice, can't say that with barry Smith.

first.. u have to decide if you want zip type or clam shell type.
clam shell type usually is harder due to the design.
but hard also means you cannot expand much when you are overloaded with clothes or stuff.

if you are loaded = go for samsonite, rimowa, tumi.
american tourister is the budget version of samsonite.

i have used antler, delsey, valentino creations, all of them is working fine so far. but all my bags only dated around 10 years max. but i spent like average 20 ~ 30 trips per year to middle east and eu.

my aunt samsonite which has lasted her around 20 years now and it is still going strong.

Luggage sales everywhere.. you will see it in many malls in Klang Valley.. Anyway, no recommnedation from me as I'm more on backpack rather than heavier luggages...Backpack.. lighter and much more suitable for those budget airlines with weight limitation blush.gif

I just bought a Barry Smith 20" carry on hardside roller bag for RM156 after discount at Isetan exactly 8 days ago, brought it walking all over Seoul on my first day I arrived and after a week it's still in decent shape. For the price I highly recommend it. Isetan and Parkson both had decent sales for luggage, American Tourister had a very nice 20" carry on that looked bigger but it was RM400 and I couldn't afford it.

However if you have a choice, get a roller bag with 2 larger wheels at each corner ie. Rimowa style wheels. Of course if you don't have a price limit and can get a Rimowa then by all means go for it. biggrin.gif

i have experienced using camel 28" and survived for 13 years. travel to australia, us, europe, hk and many parts of the world. maybe not as good as samsonite but now was thinking either to again buy camel or to buy american tourister or other average brand. camel 28" is priced at RM 400 at AEON/Jusco after discount. any opinion on this

At RM400...I think you can get better deal elsewhere. You can consider brands like Deuter, Karrimor, Osprey, Kelty.
Try look up Madam Sia at Pertama Complex. Her shop is quite popular for those looking for packs.

Good luck!

Hi peeps

I just got a Kamilian clam luggage. Just wondering, any one used this before? If yes, how's the review of it? Thanks!
