Etigge,
Thanks for you time to meet up with me. Your dahon dash is certainly a beauty as your effort you have put into it. As I have never see the bike in real, I wasn't expecting it to fold bigger than usual folding bike. This bike is about speed. It feels really light and fast. It's really nice talking to you, now I have better understanding on what kind of bike is more suited for myself. Anyway, upgrading bikes are expensive affair.... But really rewarding. I'm still not reaching that stage yet so I think better to just get the stock bike with the specs I needed. Now... I got to ride more in order for me to knows what's my needs in a bicycle 😊😊😊 This post has been edited by PaulKong: Jul 11 2015, 02:33 PM |

QUOTE(etigge @ Aug 15 2015, 05:04 PM) Yes, and also the train ride back to KL. Inspiring.... Make me really want to join this type of touring! Before I parted with my foldie gang, I have actually planned a ride from Klang to Penang and at that point there were 21 participants. In fact most of the recce has been done. The idea was a slow relaxing ride. Doing maximum 75 to 90 kilometers a day and riding only in the mornings. After noon, we will have already checked into a hotel and explore the places. Seems KK (who was initially one of the riders who has agreed to join) followed up and went through the plan. Syabas! to him. At least our recce did not go to waste. KK was in most of the trips. The original plan was, 1st day, Klang to Sekinchan - mainly isolated kampong roads and some stretches fireroad by the seaside (can be seen on the pictures) Ths kind of road stretches from Tg.Karang till Sekinchan and straight on till Pasir Panjang. 2n day , Sekinchan to T.Intan - Sekinchan >> Sg.Besar, using an old main road which is quite deserted nowadays. Sg.Besar to Bagan Datoh , might use the main road, once in a while. 3rd day, T.Intan to Sitiawan -First part s main road across the bridge over Perak River till a point, detoured into kampong roads all the way till the Sitiawan temple. Then from, travel into village road through Kg.Cina and ends in a home stay near the main traffic light junction. 4th day, Sitiawan to Trong - Main road till detour into Teluk Senangin and from there, there's an small offroad thru oil palm plantation to Segari turtle hatchery. From there to the main road and then main road to Pantai Remis and then straight to Trong. In Trong there's a nice homestay / motel which s right at the estuary (Kuala) of the river with ikan bakar. 5th day, Trong to Nibong Tebal - Trong > Kuala Sepetang (secondary roads) > boat ride from Sepetang to Kuala Gula > Kuala Kurau (on the man road but very little traffic) > Tg.Piandang (coastal road passing pantai Ban Pecah and finally to Nibong Tebal (all the way coastal sandy trail through Sungai Burong and Bagan Tiang and after Bagan Tiang, the border road between Penang and Perak) I considered Nibong Tebal Penang already and a bus will pick us up there to cross the 2nd bridge (cyclist not allowed although there's a motorcycle lane). Seems KK has cut some time off their schedule as they are riding in a pair only (easy to manage as my group then was about 20 to 24 riders Maybe someone here wants to organize such a ride http://ahpekbiker.blogspot.com/2014/09/per...llages-day.html |

QUOTE(etigge @ Aug 17 2015, 08:04 AM) You will one day. I saw your query in Happy Cycling. They sometimes do overnight rides outstation. But they also eat a lot........hahahaaa. I only thinking of night riding now, not overnight, though that is quite tempting as well 😀😀😀Have been doing some ride in different places such as KL car free day, putrajaya lake via picc hill, kesas and another one the infamous kiara hill / planetarium ride ( which I need to push my bike ) and I really enjoy every type of places. And it doesn't matter if I need to push my bike this time or not. Just enjoy the process and tell myself when my stamina are better, I'll able to conquer all hill 😁😁 |

Hi Etigge,
I've just read your blog on broga ride. May I know the route you taken? It seems to be a really nice ride there. Where did you start? At the temple? Would much appreciated. Thanks Paul Kong |

Hi D3vilsim,
I have a java fit and dahon route which is around the same price. From my experience, java is easier for a beginner as it have wider gear ratio. 52/42 with 11/32 which you can go faster and easier to climb hills. As for dahon route, the gear ratio of 52 wirh 14/28 is a narrow and you tend to struggle in climbing hills. I've let my friends who just started riding bicycle to test both bicycle and all of them choose java fit over dahon route. I like dahon route folding mechanism. It's easier to fold and it feels really solid. The frame are longer and it feels better for me to cycle. I can stand up and pedal with more confidence than java fit. However with such a narrow gear range, it just don't perform as it should be. Unless you upgrade the gear set components. It's like a unpolished jewel. As I need another bike, I've consider dahon speed but with that kind of price I can get a java IRA 451 cromoly body with carbon fork and comes with 18 speed. Body frame are longer and it's much more stable than java fit. What beginner need is a wider gear range so that we can cover more terrain. But as your leg gets stronger, you do not need such a low gear anymore. As for me, given me a dahon route, I can climb the same hills with more joy compare to the first time I'm using it. As for upgrading a dahon to dual chain ring, it didn't make your bike faster, it only makes your bike climb hills easier. |
