when I said little affection...I didn't really mean I like it at all, in fact, I meant that I didnt quite like them.  The A900ltd is supposedly an improvement over the A900.  My friend has a pair of A900ltd and I had tried it many times in many different occassions.  The phone is just awfully horrible in the vocals, total muffleness and the infamous AT mid range honkiness is surprisngly prominent.  The phone is also upfront and pretty much have the same kind of treble found in the W series.  The bass on the A900ltd was ok, but afaik, the A900 is quite bass shy.  I didn't mean to burst your bubble though.  Although I havent heard of the senn 595, if it is anything like the 555 as most ppl claimed, it would be a signicant improvement over the A900. 595 cost USD160 + shipping over here....should be more or less the same price when it gets to malaysia.  btw, the hd580 can also be had for around USD160+/- shipped to malaysia.  Anyway, hope you like it, this is definitely not my cup of tea...and I have a hard time trying to figure out why would anybody like them sweat.gif

EDIT: btw, I dont have the rights to justify your purchase biggrin.gif

No worries. I'm an open person. It's good to know about it too. Anyway, I don't have any other cans to compare. Safer. Hehehe

For me, I don't have much choice I think because my 1st requirement is it has to be a closed type. I'm using it 99% in the office. Don't want to disturb my next cubicles smile.gifsmile.gif

For senn, I did enquire about the 280 Pro but from my readings, AT900 has better review than 280 Pro.

The rest are just beyong my budget for now.

For ultimate listening at home of course I will put open type highest in my list (eg: Senn, Grado, etc)

Cheers

Just got my ATH-ES7 yesterday. All I can say is... OMG! AWSOME! cool.gif

My previous canal phones were the SHE9500.

Initial impressions:

I little sakit with my glasses on, but once I removed my glasses, it feels soo comfortable you won't even notice its there after awhile.

I was using the SHE9500 previously, and now upgraded to this. At first, I thought, hmmm, Ok lah, not bad, can here more detail compared to the SHE9500, but now, OMG. I just realized that it depends on the song you listen to. The normal pop/RnB won't do.
The song that made me go OMG was Dorset Perception by Shpongle. When I listened to this, then only did I understand the true capability of these headphones.

Also, I transferred this song to my K750i to see how well it would sound from the phone as a source. This bloody song won't even play on my K750i @ 256kb/s... kena like jammed liddat at times. LOL
Makes a lot of difference when played on my creative MoVu2 and my Laptop when compared to my K750i. This headphones made me realize that my K750i is kinda crappy when it comes to high-end music playback. And to makes things worse, I already modded my K750i with better audio driver files to make it playback music better than a stock K750i.

The separation and sound-stage is these headphones are good. You can hear all the individual instruments, they are not all smashed together like the SHE9500.

The bass on these headphones are awesome. I never thought it was possible to get this kind of bass on headphones. Its definitely stronger than the SHE9500 bass. Almost 2 times stronger. Although is a little muddy, I've read that its evens out after some really long burn in. The bass on this headphones is better than my Edifier X600. The X600 is muddy boomy bass. These headphones have waaay better definition of bass compared to that. The bass is very strong! cool.gif cool.gif

The phones are a fingerprint magnet though. But I don't really care. I just try to hold it by the outside as best as I can, if terkena a little and fingerprints show up, I don't mind. But if you're fussy about this, better stay away from these headphones.
Build quality of these headphone is superb, feels very sturdy and solid. Its surprisingly light and small, before I got my hands on it, I tot it would be a little big/heavy.

Guitars, shamisen, mridangam, tablas and flutes sound nice on these headphones. Especially the shamisen, tabla and mridangam.

I'm a techno/dance music fan, haven't had the chance to test it out with these yet. icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, the headphones are still burning in. I hear it gets a lot better after a very long burn in process. So, I'll post my impressions again in a couple of weeks/months time or when I notice a significant difference in sound. smile.gif cool.gif

Ps: It took about 7 months before I noticed a significant improvement in the mids on my SHE9500. Yes, it actually took that long. To users of that canal phones, use it that long, and you'll surely agree with me. nod.gif

some time, it's mental burn in, where ur ear and ur brain start to get used to that sound and you feel it's better.

If you're refering to the SHE9500, then, no, its not mental burn in, I'm very sure that its not. I don't "feel" it to be better. It has gotten better over time. rclxms.gif

I now hear minor stuff that was hardly there and not noticeable last time. I do have good hearing. flex.gif

But yeah, I guess some people do have mental burn in, I'm not one of 'em though. biggrin.gif

Cheers,

dont wanna prick your bubble here PCdude but there's realy a (freakishly long!) break-in for AT cans. my ES7 sounded bleeeeh when i 1st put it on. lotsa bass but muddy, unrefined and overwhelms the mids and highs. so much so i had 2either eq the bass down or eq the highs up to make it bearable. safe to say the ksc75s were much more satisfying. i thought i made a giant mistake but little did i know!

so i put it on a dap>amp>ES7 burn-in auto pilot for i'd say weeks. tried it again and it was better but...still no nitro in the tank. then 1day kaaboom! bass was still there and strong but i also have mids and highs! safe to say my ES7's my fav porty cans. sound sig u ask? strong defined full bodied bottom, sweet slightly forward mids and smooth detailed highs. soundstage and imaging also improved. with the addition of my new goshow 6 porty amp, it ups the sound siggy so much so it rivals the koss75 for balance, soundstage openness but kills the koss in the bass dept. great for metal, rock, r&b, dance and the ilk. and its not too shabby for jazz and vocals too.

FWIW, the iM716 also exhibited this longggg break-in need. i tried so hard to like it new but i found the highs though detailed, just too harsh and digitally metallic. i've had it for months now but hardly listen to it coz its just too fatigueing esp. loud shakehead.gif then..about a week ago, the treble harshness just dissappeared. weird..i though balanced armature drivers dont require break-in doh.gif . anyways, the iM716 sounds fabulous now. it actually rivals my full size cans for resolution and detail while having super tight bass. vocals are fab so much so that jazz ensembles sound wonderful with so much details.

anyways back on topic, give your ES7 very very many hours of break in. u'l be impressed at how they blossom. my ES7 and iM716 (podectomised BTW) give me porty sonic bliss thumbup.gif . now if only i can steal EFN's iwine imod ipod brows.gif :wub

ps:congrats! u now own the 2nd coolest cans on the block. mine's the coolest laugh.gif

haha
bro..
no i am not refer to his ES7. i do believe ES7 require long time to burn. as reported in many forums.
only that i have to remind there's two kind of burn in.
one is mental burn in, and one is physical burn in. =)
which actually both take place in order to change the sound of a new heapphone.
some headphone does give a hell and earth drastic different.
i read over some chinese page, my comming new toys from u also has a drastic change....
anxiously waitting for it.
i do love ATH sound signature, the mid range is poison for me, while some other ppl describe it as coloration. but heck, i enjoy the honky... =P

Yeah agreed, the AT mids sound nice. I'm loving the AT sound signature right now. That's the reason I got the ES7. And yes, when I first put on the ES7, I was like....um, riiight... I paid soo much for this? LOL

I'm learning to appreciate these phones more and more. The more high quality music I listen to, the more better I feel it is. I gotta refrain from listening to 128/192kb/s mp3s and move up to 320kb/s mp3. Thats where they shine. All the little details. Like I said, I gotta put aside the regular RnB/techno/rap songs that I've been listening to.
I'm now listening to new age and instrumental stuff. Sounds very nice soo far.
Detail is there, but overall its quite bassy, luckily I'm a basshead so I don't mind. This phones have awsome bass. flex.gif I can see why some people would initally think its too bassy.
I can't wait for it to burn in and the mids/highs to really shine.

And I'm telling you guys, the SHE9500 really has potential(for its price), only thing is it needs months and months of burn in to actually sound great. Belive me. It takes time. nod.gif Its not mental burn in. I'm VERY sure.
I'm very sensitive to changes in the headphone sound. whistling.gif cool.gif

Oh, and regarding the ES7, I'm listening to an awsome song now, and I can now say, the money spent for this headphones, it was worth every cent. I don't want to take these off. Ever. blink.gif shocking.gif
